I Say Move Up For Landry - Saftey is a Safe Bet!!

I have a question. Why is everyone so hot to trot about moving up when the players that everyone agrees are good secondary players weren't drafted anywhere near the top of the 1st round to begin with?

Samuel
Harrison (yes it was an UFA for NE, but SD certainly got some good value)
Law
Milloy

On a lesser note
Hobbs - people were high on him last year. His broken arm has cooled things a little, but he will prove to be good IMHO
Wilson - yes he has declined in recent years, but he was borderline PBer his first couple seasons

Good to great players are drafted after the top 10 every year, and NE has proven to be pretty good at mining gold. Why are so many people desirous of eliminating two likely very good players along with shrinking the available cap space for signings like this offseason?

I will certainly eat some crow if NE does in fact jump up, but I sincerely doubt it will happen.

I think that's who Miami will be targeting at #9. Landry is a very special player who started at LSU from day one of spring workouts his freshman year. I really hope we draft this guy. What do you think the Pats would trade in order to move up to snag the talented safety?

For what it's worth, the sportingnews has us taking him and here is a quick write up on the kid. http://www.sportingnews.com/nfl/teams/dolphins/index.html

Coverage skills: Excels in all types of coverage. Can lock on tight ends man-to-man. In zone, reads quarterbacks well to break and close quickly. Can make plays along the sideline in deep coverage, breaking up passes or delivering hard hits after catches. Grade: 8.5
Run/pass recognition: Consistently reads plays correctly and reacts quickly. Does not get fooled by play-action fakes or misdirection plays. Shows smooth and loose hips to change directions and burst the ... Full analysis

Well believe it or not, most people here want to talk football and this thread is about Landry. I am providing the information that the Dolphins are looking heavily into drafting the safety. You're the one that doesn't want to talk football so just go back to the smack forums.

Landry is a top 10 pick easily. Only two other guys have gone that high as a Saftey in the Last 10 Years.

Sean Taylor #5

Roy Williams #8

This is An Impact Player with rare physical tools, Theese guys don't come around all that often. there is a big dropoff between him and Merriewether, Griffen, and Nelson.

Safties are becoming more important with all theese new breed tight ends.
And because Saftey is a Position that relies on instincts and athleticism, there is almost no chance this guy is a bust, unless he's injury prone.

I wouldn't trade up that high for any other position or player,
But Landry is A Sure Thing. Just imagine our Defense with Landry and all his versitility that he brings to the table.

Well it's March So at least for now I can Dream?:singing:

Well we actually need safteys that can cover.... they are god awful in coverage but hey heres something. Ed Reed 26th overall pick(Around the ball park). Best saftey in this millenium, alot better than Taylor or Williams. Micheal Lewis, Bob Sanders, Rodney Harrison, Brian Dawkins, Lawyer Milloy and more where that came from. They werent first rounders and were all/is better than them now.

Do us a favor and give it a rest - your constant harrassment of Aqua is annoying.....even more annoying than he can be.

Thanks

Even though I think one of you called me annoying, I appreciate it fellas. I have stated many times that I am here just to talk football, not smack. Sure I'll throw in some friendly words of Patriots hate and Dolphins love, but it's all in good fun.

I don't mind fans of other teams - as long as they dont troll specifically for reaction.

I post on other teams boards, so I appreciate when I don't get abuse just because of the team I follow.

I'd much rather someone come on here openly as a fan of a rival than hide behind a fake Patriots persona - I thinkwe have a few of those here.

Its all good.

Good deal man. I am also a member at billszone and ganggreen so I like talking football with all the other AFCE team's fans. All I want to do is gain perspective and information from the rivals of my favorite team. That way I can be the best football fan possible. I love the game and can never learn enough about it.

First of all, Roy Williams CAN tackle, but he can't cover. He is an excellent tackler, but awful in coverage.

As for Landry, he is a great athlete and such, but I've never been impressed with him on the field. I am way more impressed with Nelson, we have a better shot at Nelson and he will cost less.

Cousin,
I agree a safety is a priority in 2007 but do a little reading on Nelson. Excellent playmaker, terrible tackler and weak on coverage. O.K. that is just one groups opinion, but what really bothered me about him was his intelligence. There is a HUGE question if he can adapt to the NFL game. I can't believe we draft a safety who might have to be the defensive quarterback, who cannot get the Pats complex defense. I say and emphatic NO to Nelson and Merriweather (he of the "I-am-a-gangsta-and-I-do-what-I-do-my-way" type of a guy). He is definitely the Bengals pick. Let's make a bet when he gets arrested first.

O.K. Nelson is not a bad character as The "U" guy, but he is not bright (sorry Mrs. Nelson). Alas, both of these two will make a hell of a lot of money in one year than I will make in my lifetime. Now who's smarter?

Consider Griffin from Texas. Great work ethic, respected, SMART and check his amount of tackles compared to the two above. He's got like 25% more. But the big deal is for the Pats, he is a special team performer with a ton of blocked kicks to his record. He wouldn't be a bad pick. Decent size and speed too.
