Urban Meyer says Tim Tebow still hopes for a career in NFL

Don't go revisionist history on us. Sanchez sucked from the start. The difference was that his team overcame that in years one and two, but got too old and broken to keep it up after that. There's only so long you can carry dead weight. The same thing might, or might not, have happened with Tebow. We'll never know, though, because of the fivehead.

I'm not being revisionist. Young first year starters are held to a different standard than established vets. You expect them to make mistakes and you don't expect them to play as well as someone like Manning or Brady. Ergo, you don't evaluate them the same way.

Yes, the Jet's running game and defense carried the team, but Sanchez did all right for young starter. Like I said, the problem was that he never progressed from that.

Oh, I thought Moneyball was getting the most out of a low budget team through new metrics, Theo Epstein spent more money than anyone not named Steinbrenner during his run in Boston.

Another great example, good job champ.

Moneyball as applied by Beane with Oakland was about getting the most out of a low budget team. You can use the same principles of evaluation AND have a higher budget if you so choose.

Point is, Beane and Epstein didn't use traditional baseball evaluation methods.

Keep trying champ :)

You are being revisionist. Sanchez was awful as a rookie.

12 TDs
20 INTs
10 Fums
63.0 QB rating

He was a guy being asked to throw easy, safe passes, yet hit only hit 60% in 3 games as a rookie. Blaine Gabbert was better as a rookie than was Sanchez, when it came to actually throwing the ball.

Deus is correct. Most likely, T^ebow fans are not as familiar as we are with Santurd's game by game performances his first and second seasons...he was the paradigm for "one step forward, two back" putting up some spectacularly pathetic numbers for a starting QB EVER.

We'll disagree on this I'm sure. Sanchez's numbers were skewed by a couple of awful games, one with 5 INTs against Buffalo and one against the Pats with 4. His QB rating wasn't helped with a 37.1 and an 8.3 rating in those 2 games.

His numbers weren't great, but you don't expect a young QBs numbers to be great.

And they went to the AFFCC. Unbelievable. Let's hope Vick goes down early. Smith is horrible as well.

12 TDs
21 INTs
8 Fums
66.5 QB rating

At least the Jest scouting Dept is consistent......at picking terrible QBs. I'm sure Gabbert was on their radar as well.

Sanchez was awful for the entirety of his tenure. The Jets' second biggest mistake (the biggest was drafting him in the first place) with Sanchez was that they didn't bench him 1-2 years sooner than they did. Instead they gave him a new contract.

When your defense of a guy is "if you take out the multiple 4+ int games that he had in a single season, he was still bad but not quite as terrible", that's kind of an indictment in its own right.

Oh, I agree with you that it was stupid of them to trade up to take him with the 6th pick. And yes, he should have been benched after his 3rd year instead of being given a new contract.

None of this contradicts with what I have said about him.

In my opinion, not with rookie QBs as it's highly likely that they are seeing defenses and looks that they haven't encountered before. It's all part of the learning curve.

Again though, I give "young" QBs a lot more leeway than I would give to veteran QBs.

The reason Tebow hasn't been signed by any of the current 32 GMs could be for a multitude of reasons. However, what really gets me is how the Tebow naysayers want to come in and claim that they know for a fact why 32 GMs haven't signed Tebow. There are many backup QBs in the NFL right now that Tim is just as good as if not better than, yet Tebow hasn't been signed. The Tebow naysayers like to act like none of the 32 GMs have recently signed any mediocre Quarterbacks and that GMs don't make mistakes when evaluating Talent.

Good take. I agree but I can never grasp why some team hasn't stashed him as a 2nd/3rd QB on their roster. I am fully aware of all his weaknesses but it boggles my mind that teams would rather have scrubs like Blaine Gabbert, Kyle Orton, Charlie Whitehurst, Luke McCown, Terrelle Pryor, etc than someone like Tebow who, for all of his weaknesses, is a proven winner at the NFL level.

Kyle Orton went 10-5 his rookie season, and won his first 6 starts with the Broncos in 2009. Thus, he is a "proven winner."

Terrelle Pryor had the highest rating in a single game of any Raider QB in 11 years, and set the NFL record for longest rushing touchdown for a QB. He didn't have the benefit of arguably the NFL's best defense, along with a stout offensive line, excellent talent at receiver and good running backs. He was benched, though his play was very similar to Mr. Tebow.

Trent Dilfer won a Super Bowl, making him very much a proven winner, and he had to wait five years to get another crack at a full time starting job. This despite showing he was, in fact, a proven winner.

Vince Young has won 31 of his 50 NFL starts and cannot even get a job. This despite the fact that he is a proven winner.

Tebow is 8-6 as a starter and is an atrocious passer. That he has not gotten another shot is not unprecedented, it's not a crime, it's not him being singled out. This happens all the time. He simply isn't a good enough quarterback to play in the NFL, and if he wants to be one, he should go to the CFL and win a job. Worked for Doug Flutie and Warren Moon. Kurt Warner went to the Arena League. Worked for him too. If Tim wants to run around in his shorts and work out, do broadcasts and commercials, that's fine. But the only way to get back in to the league is to play quarterback, and throw with accuracy.

It really isn't that hard to understand. It's very simple.

Pot, this is kettle.... a bit ironic don't you think? And you know he's better based on a "fact" or is it your opinion?

It's my opinion and I not ashamed to admit it. However, there's a good chance that I won't get you and most other Tebow naysayers to admit that alot of what you spout out are opinions.

When did I claim my post was fact?

You know that Tim's the worst thing to hit the NFL based on fact or opinion?

I am actually a very respectful poster.

You don't call out AndyJohnson when he says that Steve Young's assessment of Tebow is wrong. Andy claims Steve Young's opinion wrong? Why because Andy feels that what he's spouting about Tebow is fact and that anyone that has a different opinion on Tebow is wrong.

Why is that? because Andy shares your opinion of Tebow and Steve Young doesn't

Yup, .... a bit defensive no? Mind telling me what else I think while you're at it?

And that's different from people on this board thinking most if not all Tebowites are unrealistic, how?

I always love it when people claim or in your case infer the high ground. lol

This may well be true, but there's a problem with you asserting this, CC. Here's the problem--you really don't come off as an actual football fan. You don't seem to follow football, you don't seem to know much of anything about football. You certainly aren't a Patriots fan, as you never weigh in on anything actually related to the team. You ONLY surface on this board to talk about Tim Tebow, or to occasionally talk about other quarterbacks who share your faith--like when Drew Brees was going to be on TV! That's all well and good, it's well within your rights.

But my point is, there may well be those quarterbacks out there, these strawmen who are as bad or worse than a bad quarterback, but how would you know? You cannot name any of these worse QBs. You have heard from others who are Tim Tebow fans that this is true, so you believe it to be. But you do not know it to be true, because you do not actually follow the NFL other than on a surface level.

It's fine, and I'm not mad at you. I just find it odd that you would assert things that you really seem to have no knowledge of at all. For instance, Vince Young, a more accomplished player and only 30 years old, could not find a job last year. The competition for those spots is steep. Josh McCown led the NFL in passer rating last year, and a year earlier he was a substitute teacher because he couldn't find a job.

Not defensive at all, just responding to your post. I am not the person who decided to come in an attack and call some poster with a different view than my own some rude name like you did. Nor did I call you a name like you did me. I simple responded to your post in a very respectful way despite how I was attacked by you because I am one of the posters who don't share your viewpoints on Tim.

I have made a few posts in the draft forum like saying would drafting Jordan Tripp help the Pats in the linebackers area. I have made posts here and there about the Pats. However, it is not your place to dictate who is a fan and who isn't. It's not your place to dictate where Pats and how often Pats fans posters need to post to be considered a fan or to be deemed knowledgeable in football.

Don't tell me who or what I am or am not a fan of. I am very much a Pats fan, but I am also a 49ers fan, a Tebow fan etc. This post of yours is very very wrong and disrespectful. It should not concern you where, when, and how I decide to chime in on this board. You don't know me personally so you don't know how much football I know or don't know. You know very little about me.

I don't need to prove to you who or what I am a fan of. You are out of line in this post.

Really? Which post was that? This is my 3rd post tonight and I fail to see the rude name that initiated your attacks. In fact, I've only pointed out the words you use and allowed you to hang yourself.

first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye

I never used know words to hang myself. You never confronted any Tebow Naysayer like you did me. Why? Because they share your same views. Do me a favor put me on your ignore list ok.
