Was listening to 98.5 midday show and they are trying to create some faux outrage because Remy, also the President of Red Sox Nation, is coming back to do the radio color. Somehow we now have to view this with a "crooked eye" and also because Jennie Dell has a relationship with Middlebrooks..

My question has and still is when does Jared Remy be viewed stand alone, inow when does he become Jared Remy and not defined by Jerry? Jared is now 34 years old and has had problems for a long time. IMO he looks like a steroid abuser, who may have picked up some rage along the way..

Anyways it is a long off season, and time for a lot of BS radio..

Perhaps the rumor about Ordway coming back to the midday show with Merloni might be a good thing.. I like Zo, but Gresch is a lot to stomach.

It was walked about quite a bit on WEEI too. Some callers were legitimately saying Remy should stay away.

AFAIC, as you mentioned, Jared was 34 years old so he - and he alone - is responsible for his actions.

What I did not get is why do we have to look at it with a "crooked eye" as any radio "color person" employed by the team is a partisan??....

John Sterling... et al.

What if Jared was 10 years old and killed someone, or 15, 20 or 25? Does the parents' responsibility change with the age of the killer?

Obviously, something wasn't right with the kid, and from what little I've heard about it I think everyone knew he was messed up.

I never really cared much for Remy, but this is a very sad story all around.

+1000 As noted Remy's son is a grown man who happened to be a murdering POS. It's not like Jerry Remy hid evidence or mislead detectives. I continue to be amazed by the pompous critics who think that the father should be made to suffer from the crimes of his adult son. I thought only North Korea punished the families of criminals (ok that was a little melodramatic but you get my point).;)

Speaking of pompous...Ordway has a smarmy way with the callers and was condescending until his ratings tanked then he was Mr. Nice Guy but it was too late at that point. Merloni seems like a down to earth guy but is as interesting as a Styrofoam cup.

I'm with you on Gresch, he is a younger loudmouth buffoon version of Ordway with the way he shouts disagreements with the callers.

Only us Rhode island people totally understand the Gresch hatred ...

Had to stomach him for years on 790 The Score until WEEI went FM.

Biggest blowhard ever ... an embarrassment to his profession.

as for Remy ... seriously these anti Remy people need a life ... leave the guy be ...

he has suffered enough already with that douchebag kid he brought into the world.

I hope Jared Remy never lives 1 day more as a free man - hope he dies in the can.

Merloni is really good and Mutnansky is as useless as tits on a bull.

I would bring Ordway back to get rid of Mike Salk all day long or Mutt as a 2nd choice.

Mike Salk is the only radio host to be more grating than Gresch IMO.

I cannot answer such a ridiculously vague question so let me say this: If he was a minor still living at home then yes, I would say the parents' actions would bear further inquiry.

But that wasn't the case here so your hypothetical is worthless.

1)New Englanders got past Teddy Kennedy's Chappaquiddick involvement quite easily so I imagine Remy will experience virtually no blow back what so ever. If a drunk politician who drives off a bridge, leaves a girl to drown, then fails to inform authorities... can be the toast of Massachusetts for decades......then Remy has nothing to worry about in the land of moral superiority. How's the fake indian Senator doing? :)
2) Gresch.....I cannot stomach this guy. My God is he an insufferable wind bag. My biggest complaint with his show is the amount of time those two talk over each other. To me, that is cardinal sin #1. unlistenable.
3) I gave WEEI a shot recently.....something about that station.....for some reason my hatred for WEEI has the same gutt feeling as my hatred for the Jets. Can't explain it
4) Really enjoy Fred Toucher.....should I be concerned?

Minihan, Dennis, Callahan, Munansky, Gresch, Felger, Salk and Mazz all make my teeth hurt when I listen to them...

Really enjoy Toucher and Rich, not always about sports.. but holds my interest.

Personally not a huge Remy fan, prefer Eckersley, but he has done nothing wrong and should not be held accountable.

After reading the expose in the Boston Globe article(3/23) on Jared Remy, my position has changed and now believe because of he and his wife's enabling behavior in this case, Jerry Remy should resign his position.. and fade away.

The parents are more complicit(enabling) than first thought..

I have to say I am coming around to that exact same position myself. I admit I was ignorant of the history. This guy was a serial predator and repeat offender - and an awful lot of people helped him continue to get away with it.

I don't see how he can just go back on air and pretend like everything is peachy.

Sox/NESN gotta step in and force him to at least continue his leave of absence. What been reported is real bad.

I'm torn on how I feel about all this with Remy. On one hand, he's trying to help his monster of a son. The caring person in me can't fault him for that, but on the other, you enabled him, and used your fame to help him get away with a decade worth of arrests/crimes. He never took responsibility for his actions in life cuz daddy always bailed him out, now someone dead because of that.

Also this all shows how crooked The Commonwealth of Ma$$achu$$ett$ really is.

Judging the parenting skills of others is a tough thing IMO.

There are so many examples of children of law and government officials who go wayward. But who can predict murder ... who can predict that their kid will kill another. I doubt Remy was the best parent ... but I'm not sure I can say I've been perfect myself ... none of us can say this. Many of us are just lucky that our kids don't have mental and personality disorders and have reasonable intelligence to live a good life ... like most citizens do.

I'm closer to icy's view on this.

Remy did what I'm sure he thought he should do as a parent -- and maybe what he should have done.

It's not like he went overboard and tried to cover up crimes or anything that was criminal himself.

Jared Remy is a violent nutjob who should go away for good. Jerry Remy may not have been a good parent, but as a color man he provides entertainment for many people, myself included. If he wants to continue, as it sounds to be the case, I welcome him back.

He may not have been able to predict the murder, but would it be too crazy to accept that his son would have hurt her again? The Remy's parenting doesn't matter here. What matters is the influence they used on someone to keep them from protecting themselves from being abused. That sad and borders on sick.
