Thursday April 5th at 2pm per espn television schedule. Don't believe this is posted yet if so sorry for the repeat post.

$100 says the Pats open vs Indy in the Thursday night NFL season kick-off game.

So what would be the bad part about that?

We'd have a completely healed all set team ready and willing to go. Rather than a team ravaged with injuries in week 10.

Completely Healed statement and its only March?

I guess you can already predict what possible future injuries can happen come training camp and the exhibition games effect may have on our roster?

Okay...

Should you really give the roll eyes statement there? because you seen kinda dumb yourself for making that statement.

The VAST MAJORITY of teams are at their healthiest going into week 1. There are injuries here and there but most teams players are in tact for the most part and don't suffer major injuries in Pre-Season games due to the fact that most don't play long enough to get hurt.
You will have more backups than anything else hurt before the start of the season.

While recent history has had the SB champion open the season with a rematch of the Conference Championship game, I don't think its likely for the Pats to open the season against the Colts. One of the reasons is the Pats play 5 exhibition games, one of those games in China. That is asking a LOT of a team.

It will be interesting to see what happens.

Not being a betting man myself, there is no way that the Pats open on Thursday night. It has everything to do with tv contracts. NBC would not want such a high ratings game to start the new season because they already know that the opener will get high ratings (ie. if the Lions and the Raiders played that game they would get high ratings on opening night). NBC can cash in later in the season with the Pats and Dolts match up and they more than likely will elect to do so.

I have 20 bucks saying half the team comes down with an "injury" going to China and mostly backups play the entire game.

Considering its the 2nd game of the pre-season, that's a given. The problem is that the teams are expected to bring all their players and the travel does a number on you.

Not unless Brady has an "emergency" that forces him to be with family and guys like Vrabel Bruschi Harrison Seymour all have flu like symptoms with nagging TC injuries and sit out the game.

The trip does do a number on you but it wont be as bad when your a tourist and sleeping 3 quarters of the time.:D

For selfish reasons, I really hope you're wrong.

I believe that it is customary to announce the prime time games of opening weekend before the full schedule is out....

...thus we should find out who the Colts will be playing against earlier than April 5th.

That sure is exciting though, I can't wait to see how the Pats schedule breaks down. I hope we don't finish up with two road games like we did last year.

Me too. I'd like to fly over to see the game also. But just being able to hear people hit each other would be kinda fun too. :D

it should have been 2 west coast teams in the china game. at least they would have been a few hours closer

since it's the 2nd preseason game, how many snaps do you think the starters will take? idk, it seems a little unfair for the 1st string to make it out to a country on the other side of the world, just to take 10 snaps of the game, while on the other hand it woudltn seem fair to have the back ups make the trip, while the starters stay home..

what do you guys think?

Sure, that might be better for the team and makes sense on the whole, but I think you're forgetting about one very important thing...

ME.

Come on, one year after I finally get my season tickets I'm shipped off to Asia. The horror. Let me have one game with the real players (or at least one half) in person, even if it is an exhibition. Please. Throw me a frikkin' bone here, boys.

It's more than fun.

I am definitely going. Let me know if you decide to come over and we can try to meet up.

No, in recent history the NFL has come to its senses and realized that it is a total waste to blow a marquee matchup on the opener, which will get ratings anyway. Thus we have the SB champ playing non-playoff teams:
Steelers vs. Dolphins
Patriots vs. Raiders

If you are wondering who the Colts will open with, consider any home opponent except the Patriots.

Expect to hear the opening-night & weekend primetime game announcements next Monday....we'll probably hear strong rumors Sunday night (when owner's meetings begin).

Agreed on that-the China trip could (and hopefully should) alter the typical opening schedule. Will consideration be given for the trip or will we have to suck it up and forge onward anyway? I have my fingers crossed we get a break. Of course, the history of the NFL giving "breaks" is probably not so good but we'll see.
