I think since the super bowl champs typically open up the nfl season at home with the rings and the banner being unveiled, and considering what other opponents the colts will be facing at home next season, the pats are the most logical pick. It would be the perfect matchup for the NFL, the rematch of the best playoff game from last season. It would also be a game that I personally cant wait to watch if in deed it does happen.

these are the colts opponents at home for next year:
Indianapolis -- Houston, Jacksonville, Tennessee, Denver, Kansas City, New England, New Orleans, Tampa Bay

the other possibility would be the saints but i think the pats will be the pick just because of the rivalry, which has now become the games best rivalry.

i think opening night will be Colts/Saints.

colts/pats is already a big game. they'll save it for a non-kickoff weekend matchup.

I think it will be Colts/Saints. they usually have the SB champion play a team on the rise to open the season, and the Saints fit that bill.

Honestly I hope NE doesn't open in Indy. Why? I wan't Brady, Stallworth, and Welker to have a little time together before playing them, so NE's offense can be at top form. I also want Thomas to have a little time in the system first, along with any draft picks.

my guess would be Colts/Saints while the Saints are still a 'hot' team

plus it is also Peyton vs. Archie's team

Reggie Bush gets showcased on the big stage

all of the kickoff games the last few years have all been AFC team vs AFC team, or NFC team vs NFC team except for 2003 when jets and redskins played but that was before the NFL started the SB winning team hosting the kickoff game.

i still think its gonna be colts-pats because that will get the NFL the most ratings.

That's exactly why it probably won't be the Pats that night: Pats/Dolts is essentially guaranteed to get good ratings no matter what--as is the opening game--so why settle for having one big night when you can get two?

I think it would be great motivation for this team to see someone else raise a banner. It would suck to see but should light a fire in the team.

Looking at it from another standpoint, I bet that the Colts hope that it is not the Pats on opening night. Nothing demoralizes a team fatser (especially the defending champs) than an opening game loss on home field with a national audience.

Ermm didn't that just happen this season? And the season before?

Colts Saints would be fine with me, but I would not be suprized if it was colts pats

The only real question is where does the China trip fit in?? If they play it towards the end of the preseason, and the season opener is on a Thursday nite as it usually is, may give Indy a slight advantage due to the long flights.

I do think we will be playing Dallas on Thanksgiving day though, thank goodness for that.

Imagine if the Pats came running out onto the field with the Colts when the Champions were announced. I think they've made that mistake before....:D

No, the Pats will open training camp a week or so early, play a game in Seattle, then a game in China, then come back to Foxboro for the rest of the preseason.

If Polian really wants the Pats opening night, then he'll arrange it.

Haven't read the rest of the replies but I strongly doubt the NFL will make the Pats open on Thursday night after making them go to China, likely enfuriating Belichick to no end.

Thanksgiving in Dallas would be kind of cool, but we've already played on Turkey Day a few times lately, would they keep going back there?

Who else would the Cowboys play? It's usually Dal/Det vs. an AFC team, and Dallas plays the AFC East this year.

From what I understand Dallas plays only two AFC teams at home this year NYJets and the NE PATS.. I would think the Pats might be a better draw. But then again I have not clue about and just thinking I know.

i don't think so

i expect Pats @ Indy a MNF later on...

i hope NE will play on Thksgiving game WITH the throwbacks...

I'd say its Colts Saints or Colts Titans.

I think people are gonna think the Titans are gonna be a good team this year and they could get showcased that first game like Miami did this year when everyone thought they would be good. I think the reasons for the Saints have already been mentioned and there is no reason to repeat them.
