I think that there is a lot of value for the patriots in the 8-15 spots. These players will be signing SIX year contracts. Their salaries may look high, but they will be locked in.

I can certainly see us trading both picks into the top 10 for Landry or Carriker. I also could see us trading into the 11-15 spots with a Day One pick coming back for bb's favorite LB or CB.

I don't think the issue will be about WANTING to move up. The issue will be about securing trading partners who will give us value.

------------------------------------------------------

In the end, I don't expect a major trade up or down, just the normal move up 5 spots if needed, or move down 10-15 or so and get back an additional Day One pick. Of course, it may trun out best to stay here we are.

Amen.

(Though I wouldn't want to spend that on Landry with the S depth in this class.)

I do think trading into the 14-16 range, and getting a second rounder in the mid range (46-48) would have better value than 24, and 28. Unless someone slides it looks like NE will be reaching at 28. at 46-48 you might still be able to get that same player, or someone else with good value.

Buffalo might jump all over a deal like this but would they not do the deal because it may be viewed as helping a division opponent. IMO, they have too many holes on their team to not do this.

I agree. Unless someone like Landry,Willis, Carriker, Hall, or Revis falls to 24/28, we will be forced to reach with these picks or trade back. I wish there was more top end depth in this draft.

I agree. They lost a lot of veteran players and are too young and don't have enough players to compete this year. They also don't spend in FA so they'll still be young in '08. So I do see them as trading partners w/NE as they get more picks to build depth while waiting for the Pats to get old and for BB to ride into the sunset after winning two straight. Sorry for the blasphemy.

If the Pats needed one particular player to win the Superbowl,

I would say trade up. I don't think this is the case. Instead,

they need to find the future replacements for Rodney Harrison,

Eugene Wilson, Tedy Bruschi, and possibly Asante Samuel. If the

Pats stay put, they might fill a couple of these needs.

The trick is, the Bills have a lot of the same needs as the Patriots: LB, CB, OT, WR. Those are exactly the positions where we expect a major dropoff in talent after the top 15-20. At their current spot the Bills should have their choice of most of the group of Willis, Hall, Revis, Staley and Meachem. Then at #43 say David Harris, Anthony Gonzalez, Marcus Macauley. That sets up awfully nicely. I could see them sliding back a couple of spots if they still see 3-4 guys they like, but not back to 24.

But heck, I didn't see Whitner coming last year either!

You expect to find the replacement for one of these players at #24 or #28. Others think that it is much more likely to find these players at #14 or #8.

It seems like year after year. someone falls to us. One year it was Wilfork. I think LB's fall this year. and we need ILB.

The thing is, unfortunately, is that the only LB worth taking at 24 is Willis, and he'll probably be gone by 24. If he's gone by the early teens, and Darelle Revis remains, I would try to work out a Sebman trade, take Revis, and hope that David Harris is still available by the mid-40s. If that's not viable, then the UTexas DB tandem of Aaron Ross and Michael Griffin may be an option, with Anthony Waters/Zak DeOssie in the 3rd round; or even Ross and Harris, with a Safety in the 3rd.
