Per Reiss, the Pats have let Thomas keep his old number, 96, from the Ravens.

The last two players to wear that number for the Pats (Jonathan Sullivan and Rodney Bailey) were flops who never played a down for the team.

Re: Inexecusably Bad Offseason Decision (re: Adalius Thomas....'s jersey number.)

Hmm - I'd be willing to put a cool thousand down on the fact that AD will not be the second coming of Jonathan Sullivan. PM me!

Re: Inexecusably Bad Offseason Decision (re: Adalius Thomas....'s jersey number.)

A number is what it is.. a number.

Re: Inexecusably Bad Offseason Decision (re: Adalius Thomas....'s jersey number.)

Good. The number won't cost him a penny.

Re: Inexecusably Bad Offseason Decision (re: Adalius Thomas....'s jersey number.)

Simply put, #96 has never been that popular of a number in New England. Mike Jones and Brent Williams are about the only notables (I can think of) that wore that jersey number. I guess 96 just ain't tight.

there is a whole nation of people like you and they go to fenway park 81 times a year

This is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. How many Pro bowls did AD goto in that number 96? Anybody have a legitimate concern?

Re: Inexecusably Bad Offseason Decision (re: Adalius Thomas....'s jersey number.)

Let's give AD #54 since we know that's a proven number. Bruschi has nothing left anyway. :violent:

Re: Inexecusably Bad Offseason Decision (re: Adalius Thomas....'s jersey number.)

The original post was, I'm sure, made in jest, so no need to explain things to him.

I do think though, that sooner or later, somebody good winds up wearing a number, and in this case, it's time for number 96 to finally be worn by a stud!

Re: Inexecusably Bad Offseason Decision (re: Adalius Thomas....'s jersey number.)

Quick, somebody do Thomas' astrology chart!

Jersey numbers

A look at the jersey numbers assigned to some of the new members of the Patriots:

# LB Adalius Thomas -- 96
Thomas also wore 96 in Baltimore. That number was last worn by DLs Johnathan Sullivan and Rodney Bailey in New England, although neither player appeared in a regular-season game. The last player to wear 96 in a regular-season game was LB Wesly Mallard (2005).

# Wes Welker -- 83
Welker also wore 83 in Miami. That number was last worn by WR Deion Branch in New England.

# Kyle Brady -- 88
Brady wore 80 in Jacksonville. That number has been Troy Brown's in New England, and while Brown is a free agent, the number remains available. The 88 was last worn in a regular-season game by TE Christian Fauria.

# Sammy Morris -- 34
Morris wore 31 in Miami. That number is taken by CB Antwain Spann. The 34 was last worn by Tebucky Jones, although he was placed on injured reserve in the preseason. The last player to wear 34 in a regular-season game was RB Michael Cloud.

EXTRA POINT: Donte' Stallworth and Kelley Washington have yet to have their jersey numbers finalized.

Interesting that they kept #80 open...

I love it when someone makes a post like this jokingly and incites a whole bunch of geniuses to fall all over themselves trying to get into a high horse and tell him how moronic his statement was.

Brilliant!

Let's go Troy! One more year! Out on top!

Edit: Wait. How did this post get here? Oh, merged.

Re: Jersey Numbers Assigned

Is 18 available for Donte' Stallworth to wear?

I'm assuming if it is that's what he'll take.

Re: Jersey Numbers Assigned

I would assume so... since Chad Jackson wears 17. 18 should be available. Not a lot of wide receivers wear teen numbers yet. Most of them wear the 80+ Hopefully the reason 80 is still available is that Troy is contemplating a comeback. We'll have to wait and see.

yeah Sauerbrun had 18 :\

Stallworth should of taken 83 from Welker..take his New orleans #.

I believe one of the dumbest things I've ever heard is that so many people don't get that the guy who started this thread is joking.

Whatever dude. People take jersey numbers way too seriously. Same kinds of threads popped up all over the board last season. Just nipping it in the bud. If you've got a problem with it, I could care less.
