Good move by the Eagles I noticed where Lions had mostly gave up on pursuing him.

Well, 6 years 30 or so mil is a nice deal for a #3 guy moving into the starting lineup. Not saying he's not getting market value, but that second round pick for the right to negotiate a 18 mil deal with Welker looks a lot better now. It's also basically the same money as Stallworth without the safety net the Pats have of a buyout.

Overall, I say BB did a pretty good job assessing and getting good value out of the WR market.

Great signing. I was actually glad that Curtis did not end up with you guys. He's a great route runner, so I think he would have been dynamite with Brady. He is faster than Welker is.

Well they do have Mike Furrey, Roy Williams, and they just signed Shaun McDonald (46 catches in Martz's O in St. Louis in '05). I don't think they have to take a WR, but Johnson is a rare breed and Millen is a dolt, so who knows.

Sorry, gotta disagree with this. Curtis is a different type of WR than Welker. Curtis was being mis-used in the slot in St. Louis. He excelled once you got him out of the box. Curtis runs very good routes and has very good hands. Curtis is more on a plane with Deion Branch than Wes Welker.

I agree. I thought he was so much like Branch that I am shocked the Pats didn't take a look at him seriously. My only guess is that his salary requirements were more than the Pats wanted to give and they decided to pass. The Pats don't seem to like giving big long term deals to WRs. Even both of their offers to Branch and Givens last year were three year deals.

Actually, the Deal to Givens was a 4 year deal and the 2nd offer to Branch was actually a 5 year deal.

The Pats also gave a 5 year deal to Welker. The deals for Stallworth and Washington have the potential to become longer deals as well.

Stallworth's and Washington's deals are one year deals with a lot of fake numbers. Stallworth will need to have a Pro Bowl season for the Pats to even consider giving the option bonus to him. Even then, I am guessing they might want to renegotiate the deal rather than honor it like it is. I think Washington has little chance to see past year one of this deal either. I am not even convinced he will be on the opening game roster yet.

I'm sure if Curtis was willing to do a deal like Stallworth, the Pats would have jumped at him. Curtis knew he was in hot demand and doesn't have the baggage of Stallworth. Curtis wanted guaranteed money upfront and wasn't going to take a "prove it" deal like Stallworth did.

This is false. The ORIGINAL offers to Givens and Branch were 4 year extensions made prior to the start of the 2005 season. The second offer to Branch was a 5 year deal and it was NOT disputed because it came from Reiss. The Final offer made to Branch was the 3 year deal.

Givens offer in the 2006 off-season was the 5 year deal I mentioned.

I think that once the Pats got Welker, they didn't feel the need to go after Curtis because they felt their needs were in other places and that Curtis didn't necessarily have the skill sets they were looking for.
