He's slow and his size is nothing remarkable but has exceptional hands and runs good routes. I think he's a better player than Thompkins will ever be, but even at the veteran minimum Thompkins is cheaper.
I wouldn't mind us taking a look for a low price.
He has good hands.
Not to mention it took him 76 targets to get 38 receptions, and his yards per catch average was 11.8.
If you want quality you need to pay for it, Thomkins may be less expensive but he can't catch the damned ball. I'm all for bringing Avant into camp and letting him compete for a roster spot.
How good/accurate were the passes thrown to him?
Nick Foles had a 64% completion percentage and was the #1 QB in the NFL for passer rating at 119.2.

That doesn't tell me about the specific passes thrown to Avant.
Except, nick foles didn't start the year and philly's 1st half of the season was awful. Also, having followed avant for a few years now since I live in philly and he's a good locker room presence.
Foles replaced Vick in week 5, in the first 4 games Avant was targeted 22 times for 12 receptions; in the games with Foles as the QB, he was targeted 53 times for 26 receptions.
I am not disputing he is a good locker room presence, and a productive player, but he is not going to add any value to this current team in my opinion. We need outside receivers who can stretch the field, we have more than enough possession receivers as it is.
