Many media members suggesting Jackson could land on the Patriots. I think it would be an excellent pickup, he is very good in coverage, and his presence would allow us to use Jamie Collins and Donta Hightower at the line in pass rushing situations more often.

It would be a nice depth addition I suppose, but our immediate needs are signing our own guys (or not) first. The LB core is already in good shape even with the (not yet) loss of Brandon Spikes.

It would be nice to have some back up for the linebackers so we don't get into the ****storm we did last year.

Think he would be a great addition....long as he's cheap- which he should be.

If this past season taught us anything, it's that depth is needed. Sure we look very good with Mayo, Collins and Hightower heading into the season. Fletcher is a decent 4th option, but we NEED a 4th LB in case one of those guys goes down. Both Spikes and Mayo were done by late in the year. We need to have good back up options and it sounds like this guy can still play. He doesn't need to be a full time LB, which is good. It sounds like BB loves him and he is a very good coverage LB, not to mention he's a vet with experience. SIGN HIM ASAP.

For the right money, I'd be all over this.

I like this idea I think with Spikes leaving depth at LB is definitely a need. Fletcher is OK depth but there is room for D'Qwell and he would IMO be higher on the depth chart than Fletcher. I think we all expect Mayo, Collins, and Hightower to be the starters. We need at least 2 capable back ups and a third who likely will be more of a STer.

Former #Browns LB D’Qwell Jackson is scheduled to visit 5 teams so far, including the Broncos and Titans. Tennessee has Ray Horton

The Broncos have a big need at ILB. Wonder if we're one of the 5 teams.

Cheap?? What 25-30 million? You'd pay that $$$ for essentially a backup?

I hadn't seen it indicated that the amount you state is what he's looking for. In the 43, he could and would probably start ahead of Hightower.

Or how about moving Collins to SS in 3rd and 8's? Play a three safety package.

Since he's being cut over a $4.1 bonus, and he's 30, I doubt he's anywhere near that money.

I would hate to see him signed by the Donkos...which team has more cap space..Denver or Pats?

If we look at this from a money perspective can we even afford him? say he asks for and gets 4 or 5 million. Since we only have roughly 9 in cap space right now that would leave us four million left. I would love to see this happen but I dont see us making any big name signings. We just very rarely ever do.

Obviously, it depends on what his year one 2014 cap hit would be. Going by your example, it's terribly unlikely that he'd have a cap hit of 4-5 million dollars.

I agree with you in the sense that my concern would be that he just isn't worth it, due to money factors and a lessened priority of need in that position.

It sure would be nice though.

According to sportrac.com, Denver currently has about 2x the amount in available cap space that we do.

I assume the numbers are at least in the right ballpark, as they have our cap room at approx. 9 million, which seems to be around what most feel is correct---or at least in the ballpark anyway.

DEN currently has about 17 million available.

Signing Jackson would be a great move, as it would give us a three-down linebacker who can play man and zone coverage effectively. I could see it being a huge plus in sub packages with him, Collins, and Mayo on the field.

But he'll most definitely have to take less money to play here, and he isn't necessarily a position of need....though I do believe BB may see his versatility/athleticism/instincts and feel differently.

Would love to have him but not at the expense of adding to our front four.

I would definitely take Jackson.

Denver also has a lot of big shoes to fill and a ton of important free agents.

Decker
Moreno
Rogers-Cromartie
Both of their centers (Koppen is a free agent)
Quinten Jammer
Sean Phillips
Zane Beadles
Robert Ayers
Wesley Woodyard

They're arguably in worse shape than we are - throw in that Champ Bailey is done and will need to be replaced, and Harris is an RFA...and both Thomases are up for contract next year and Welker (if he's even still there) is done next year.

They certainly need LBs, and will probably make a play for Jackson. Elway has said he will spend big in free agency, and I doubt he cares about the cap (given the history, wink wink).

So we'll see how it plays out. If the Pats interest drives up the cost to Denver, then that makes Mack or one of the other centers better odds for us.

The whispers say Jackson's remark about his Thursday visit to "a great place" was New England, and one Brown's front office guy in an interview (can't find it, argggghhhhh!) said, "Don't be surprised if he signs with New England."

Remember, Lombardi is here.

I know the Titans want him. The Vikings have a connection. You'd think that after being mired in Cleveland all these years, the guy wants a shot at a ring. Denver and New England make the most sense in that regard.

I hold faith that if BB signs him, he's got a plan for him. Hightower taking some reps at DE? Collins at SS? Some weird new 3-4 with Kelly/Wilfork/Armstead/Red Bryant/Jones manning the 3? Stranger things have happened in New England, and BB loves this guy.

The Pats will look much the same in personnel next year, but I have a feeling that BB is about to shake up the league again. New coaches are just the start.

Or maybe I'm just incredibly bored and WANT something to happen!

Can never have too many capable LBs.

I have a feeling that Jackson will get good, not great starter money somewhere. He isn't even guaranteed to start here. I don't see him coming here.

I would love the Pats to sign him, but I don't see it happening because he will want too much and want to be in a place where he is guaranteed to start.
