PFT: Fins to move up?

Interesting snippet on the Daily Rumor Mill today that Cam Cam and the Fins are preparing to work out JaMarcus Russell and Brady Quinn, and may therefore be considering a trip up the draft chart. Possibly to Detroit's 2 spot.

To my untrained mind this makes all kinds of sense. The Fins are all over the shop at QB and I don't for a minute buy the idea the Brady Quinn is falling out of the top 10. If Miami does want one of these two guys - and they certainly should - they may well have to move.

Of those above them Oakland, Detroit, Cleveland, Houston and Minnesota all have big QB issues (arguably the Bucs and the 'Skins do too) and even if you think that four of them are going to take a pass, do you want to take a risk?

Fish could be pretty good this year if they decide to go with Quinn and put him at the helm. He's played in an NFL style offense with Weis and is very smart.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the Fins package their 1st and 2nd and our 2nd to move up to the #2 spot.

Supposedly Russell had the Raiders wetting their pants yesterday because of all the ability he showed.

The problem with the Raiders, though, is that they don't have an O-line to put in front of Russell or any other QB for that matter.

Yep. And if that happens, Cameron is staking his coaching career on Russell/Quinn being a Pro-Bowl quarterback within a couple of years. You can't give up three picks in the top 60 for anything less.

The problem with the Raiders, though, is that they don't have an O-line to put in front of Russell or any other QB for that matter.

The only O line worse that the Raider's, is the mostly nonexistent one in Miami.

Any QB will get killed behind the (n)o-line. If the Phish draft a QB early, they shoud strip their team of any player over 28 and get what they can, and draft protectors. They might be able to construct 4/5th of an O-line by the end of the disatrous 2007. Maybe the QB won't be too shellshocked in only a year. Next's year draft a LOT, and there might even be enough of a foundation laid, to hope.

Good point. Is the drop off between Quinn and say Drew Stanton or however's next on the the draft board that much to warrant trading a 1 and 2 two's?

There always seems to be a lot of speculation on the movement of the top- 10 picks- most which doesn't work out. This year might be a bit different as the top flight picks seem to have noticibly different skill sets in comparisons to other years, so I could see jockying amoungst teams.
Pasquerelli reported last weekend (I think it was last weekend) that Houston & Washington had an agreement in principal to swap picks so that Houston could jump over Minn. to get Quinn.
We'll see.

That would shock me. And very little shocks me. If such a deal was cut, Pasquarelli shouldn't know about it.

If true, the proper thing for the Redskins to do now is to tell Minnesota that they have an agreement with Houston, and see if they want to make a better offer.

Or whomever drafts before Washington should contact Minnesota.

I agree w/ you that such an agreement is premature, and the reporting, or leaking might just be considered "noise" to camoflage their intentions.

If the Raiders ship Moss to Green Bay for Rogers, they would be crazy to pass on a talent like C Johnson.
I'm not sold on Russell as a franchise QB.

The fish would stink on ice again, Quinn or no:
a) Quinn will be a good QB, but he's going to see defensive formations that make Pete Carroll's USC ploys look easy. The poor kid would be better served sitting behind Culpepper and learning from Dante's mistakes (which will be legion).
b) OL guru Hudson Houck hasn't turned as many no names into frontline studs at Miami as he reportedly did elsewhere, the fish QB is going to be filleted (with what appears to be an emphasis on the vertical game with Cam's QB & WR moves).
c) Cam is apparently using this as a rebuilding year.
