Sources: Disconnect between youngsters, 'lifers' in Bills organization - BN Blitz

As written this morning, key coaching staffers and scouts are frustrated with organizational fixtures who're considered behind the times.

Team sources have told me here at the NFL scouting combine the coaching staff wants to replace 30-year athletic trainer Bud Carpenter but have run into opposition within the board room.

And the dissatisfaction doesn't stop there.

Scouts and coaches have been aggravated with decisions made by chief financial officer Jeffrey C. Littmann (with the team since 1986), senior vice president of football administration Jim Overdorf (with the team since 1986) and senior vice president of communications Scott Berchtold (with the team since 1989).

...

The sources say Marrone and Whaley feel they've been hung out to dry in certain media situations that made them and the team look bad.

Another dysfunctional division rival. Hopefully it boils over to the regular season.

It can't be a coincidence all our division rivals are such dysfunctional messes.

There has to be some sort of Bob Kraft/Bill B maneuvering going on to sow discord and disruption with these teams.

Well they have to get to a point to go beyond BB/Kraft to claim the division. That requires solidarity of purpose, long range planning, a high success rate in drafting and acquiring the right free agents. all while maintaining healthy cap/cap space.

And they haven't even caught up because they mostly can't give it the time needed. Rex Ryan went all in for a couple years and had some success with his defense, but his ability to get a QB ultimately undermined his success. As it has with all the division rivals.

Each year, we hear how X team has narrowed the gap, only to see the patriots repeatedly win continue having great success against the division. Must be very frustrating.

No. It's just awful (Jets and Dolphins) and senile (Bills) upper managment. You're giving BB way too much credit as a Machiavellian villain. This will eventually happen to the Pats post-BB, Brady, and Kraft.

Speaking of Divisional teams ole Ian Rappaport reported earlier today that there's a good chance that Mike Vick will sign with the Jets

It's interesting that with all these problems elsewhere, BB is comfortable building a kitchen cabinet with Lombardi and Schiano.

Don't bet on it. Jonathan Kraft is the brains behind the Pats front office and he's going to be around for decades to come. The Kraft family established high standards for the franchise before the BB/Brady era and I'd expect that to continue long after they're gone.

Miss at QB and every organization tends to look bad

I wouldn't be at all surprised if that signing ended up working out in the beginning of the season. I can see it now...a rejuvenated Vick leads the Jets to an early winning record and the media declares the Patriots dynasty dead before they somehow finish 8-8 because they're the Jets.

Jets Interested in QB Josh McCown - The Jet Press - A New York Jets Fan Site - News, Blogs, Opinion and more.

Are the Jets trying to get better or worse?

The Jets are picking through 35-year-old Josh McCown, 34-year-old Michael Vick, Geno Smith, 33-year-old Matt Schaub and Mark Sanchez ages as of start of camp 2014.) Sanchez has the best playoff w/l percentage and most playoff wins of any of them.

Michael Vick hasn't won an NFL playoff game since January 2005 - nine seasons ago when he was with the Atlanta Falcons.

They should just stick with Geno Smith and build a system around his strengths. What is wrong with those guys?

I'm not at all sure about Jonathan. In the past he's spoken without thinking. Conversely, I hope he really IS the guy who has been running the Pats as it bodes well for a couple decades more.

As to the Bills, I seriously sympathize for the poor fans of this dysfunctional loser of an organization. This initially great old AFL team is stuck on stupid.

Old guard v. new guard

Nothing really new here

High standards, yes. They're a good ownership group. But even they had their issues prior to Brady and Belichick. A Hall of Fame quarterback does so much for an organization by himself, forget about a HOF QB with a HOF head coach.

They'll be mediocare as long as they have EJ Manuel.

I hear ya. Not sure where people would get the idea that Jonathan is the brains behind the outfit. It could be true, but I've seen absolutely zero evidence of this. He definitely lacks his father's charisma and patience and has a tendency to say the wrong thing when handed a microphone.

Because as we all know, charisma and patience and saying the right thing is the ultimate measure of how smart a man is...

Jonathan will be fine. He's got a great role model and mentor to learn from.

Gotta luv BB burping and snorting, hacking and gagging his way thru press conferences

Are you really comparing BB's media persona to the real BB?

Regardless of role models, people raised in wealthy families tend to be spoiled brats. Hopefully Jonathan is an exception, but so far no one has presented any evidence to the contrary. I truly hope I am wrong, but after years of viewing Jonathan in the owners box and hearing him in interviews, he does seem to fit that mold. On the bright side, he does seem to be very intelligent. Unfortunately, it takes a lot more than just intelligence to run a successful organization.
