@cpriceNFL: South Dakota LB Tyler Starr--who wants to break the combine record for the 3-cone--tells me he's had an informal meeting with the #Patriots.

One to add.

I like this list so far - even more with the Tyler Starr addition.

The contact list is not a great predictor of who exactly the Patriots will draft, but it does seem to indicate what positions they are interested in. TE certainly seems like a big interest, at least early on, which is no surprise.

@DougKyedNESN: RT @cpriceNFL: Brock Vereen--Shane's brother, a DB from Minnesota--said he met with the #Patriots on Saturday.

Don't know anything about him.

So Minnesota is the school we pick D from this year, with Hageman and Veeren :)

It gives me reason to do more on Jeffcoat and Campanaro.

Here's a concise summary of NFL.com's writeup of Campanaro:

Re-sign Edelman, sign Welker and draft Campanaro. If bloody Seattle want to go big at CB, we'll go small at WR. :)

Edit: And TJ Moe and Amendola obviously.

This will please the safety first crowd

@ErikFrenz: Alabama safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix tells me he has a meeting scheduled with the #Patriots.

Ryan Shazier, OLB, Ohio State

Last year they looked almost exclusively at WR and RT at the combine (Vollmer wasn't signed at the time). Much less zeroed in on position this year.

It'll indicate one of three things with the Pats:

1. They're looking for a starting caliber SS.

2. They're looking for more depth at the position.

3. Nothing.

I hope it's #1.

It's certainly something to keep an eye on as visits and workouts take place. You did just include two linebackers* there to help you make your case so I'd suggest the sample size is too small right now (unlike last year where they checked out a whole bunch of WRs).

*Certainly using Shazier was an interesting take on the SS issue.

I meant to quote your post, not the one below it. I'm making these posts on my iPhone right now so **** happens sometimes. :)

Hmm What about haveing both him and Collins, where one is LB and the other is SS but you never know whos what? Could we have a nickle 4-3-4 with Collins - Mayo - Shazier with DmC roaming behind as FS ?

If that was BB's new direction, many on here, especially Mayo, would be very very happy. As an early Shazier adopter, I'd be fine with it too. But, it's way too early to make that projection. There's no pattern yet from contacts.

Yeah, I had thought of something like that. You could do the same thing with Christian Jones, IMO. It's very encouraging that the Pats are showing interest in Shazier and Tyler Starr, though I take such reports with a large grain/pinch of salt.

Agree on that - But if we plays on it abit, Ebner/Wilson picks could make more sense long term AND cut Gregory and/or A.Wilson and save 5+ mill on the cap.
