NFL Owners, this guy bent you over and gave it to you big time

You have it backwards.

The owners hired him. He works for them. The owners are making hundreds of millions, while this guy serves as their "manager" as Kraft stated this afternoon.

Keep in mind that Goodell has the autonomy to hatch initiatives and present them to the owners. He's not simply an errand boy carrying out marching orders. Much of what we hear from him is his "vision" of what HE thinks the league needs. On that level he has earned the enmity of many diehard NFL fans, including myself. But there is no way in hell he's worth that kind of money -- that is obscene. It truly makes me sick. I don't care how much his bosses make, for Goodell to pocket $44 million annually is a crime against nature.

The owners are raking in money under the new CBA, and the concussion lawsuit was settled for not a lot of money. On the basis of those two facts alone, Goodell's probably worth every penny in their eyes.

This is what he deserves to get paid

You guys are forgetting that he has the negatives.

Oh, I forgot in this digital/photoshop world it is a memory stick or something.

Whatever it is that you kids use, he has it.

Exactly. He is their puppet. If they say "dance clown" he dances. Also, he got a huge bonus for settling that huge concussion suit for only $765M.

To be clear: That's $35.1 million -- plus another $9.1 million in deferred payments -- for the year that ended March 31, 2013.

What's the cap increase if we cut him? $1.38 mil per team? Miguel?

yeah gosh,
That goodell fella, all he does is give the league its best ratings, and most money in history, and he keeps trying to punish people that try to **** it up and make the game safer but everyone complains.

We should get that last dude back, you know the one that was totally cool with letting teams buy championships by ignoring the salary cap.

“I have had the privilege of working with Roger Goodell closely over the past eight years,” Patriots owner Robert Kraft said. “He provided great leadership and vision in helping navigate through a major labor negotiation and extending our TV contracts, which in fact have created a decade of stability that is unheard of in today’s sports and entertainment environment. I feel that as Commissioner he runs the business as if he were an owner-operator. I consider him to be one of the most outstanding managers in the country. We are lucky to have him at the helm.”

I think that we should believe Kraft when he says that Goodell has a good job.

Exactly what I came here to post.

Goodell isn't screwing the NFL owners, he's making them more money and growing their business daily. I would imagine that they absolutely love him.

Exactly. Some of RG's decisions/guidance may be BS and cause us anger, however, the NFL is currently seeing enormous prosperity. Just about every corporation in America pays absurd amounts of money to their CEO when he/she produces monetary results of this kind (whether it's right or wrong for that kind of money to be paid is a different argument).

The more important question is........ what happened to ScarJo???:D

This is from 2011, so in 2 years his salary quadrupled?? Business climate or not, this seems excessive....

In 2012 it was reported that it would double to 20 million, guess they were wrong...

C'mon people. He has to feed his family. I don't know how they would survive if he had a lower wage.

On a serious note, as long as people are addicted to football, this trend will continue. They power is in the people but it won't stop until too late. People would rather go into credit hell than stop watching football.

I understand a player strike was avoided and the concussion suit was settled, but I thought they were making money hand over fist along with obscene TV ratings before 07. Did he really invent slicing bread?

I often think he's just another empty suit PR man. He should feel guilty taking 44 mil when diehard fans have to sometimes shell out $1000 each for nosebleed season tix.

Yeah, he got this floundering enterprise to rise up from the ashes, and he's pointing us in the direction of bubble-wrapping everyone for flag-football. Someday we'll get that non-contact sport we so crave.

That'd be sweet. Krafts totally loaded now.

Remarkable, especially considering that he oversees a group of businesses that receive tax breaks.

How do they receive tax breaks?
