So It's a Safety You Want?

Thanks, good read. I've been liking all those Yahoo profiles.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'd be happy if the Pats picked not only one of those players, but two in the first round. Maybe its the write up, but they all sound like BB/Patriot type players (even Meriweather from what I have read has been saying all the right things post-brawl).

The Utah kid sounds like a BB guy a lot, very versatile. Would love him paired with one of Nelson, Griffin, or Meriweather.

Why do I get the idea that noone realises how bad our situation at ILB is or just dont care???

Yes we need a Safety but the first priority should be ILB.

Not 2 safeties in the 1st round...

i think our D is so complex that we would rather have a vet in at ILB rather than a rookie. Maybe a rookie in the third round that can have time to figure it out. First round is for guy to hopefully help now. I think that is the thinking anyway

i like that fact that wher ever i look, these safetys are listed in different orders, shows they are pretty even in skill...BB should be able to just pick whatever one he wants...if not, which ever one is available

Well, then they need to go get one because Bruschi has 1 maybe 2 years left and Vrabel should not play inside due to his back problems.

i hear ya!!!

The Pats do need to get a good safety to replace Eugene Wilson.

I don't think they will trade both #1 picks to get Landry. If they

want Nelson, they would probably have to trade up with Green Bay to

get ahead of Jacksonville. This would also require multiple draft picks.

The other three guys should be there at both of the Pats first round

picks. I suspect the Pats will wait it out and take one of them. The other #1

pick I hope they use on a linebacker.

Which one?

And don't you think that bringing in stud ILB like say, Patrick Willis, to learn from the vets this year would pay big dividends next year and the following years?

This isn't worth anything, but Kipers mock yesterday had us taking Willis at #24 and Nelson at #28.

i dont think willis falls to 24 or 28.....there are other ILBs worth taking a look at though...

1. LaRon Landy (will never happen)
2. Reggie Nelson (could be there)
3. Eric Weddle (could probably trade down into the 2nd round and still get him)

Mel Kiper's most recent mock draft has us taking Patrick Willis and Reggie Nelson. Of course, that means we probably won't take either, but I would sure wet my pants if he were right.

Stranger things have happened in the draft. Take Aaron Rodgers, he was rated as high as the #1 overrall pick and dropped down to #24. Also, who would have guessed the Bills would have taken Donte Whittner in the top 10? Willis may fall to New Enlgand and I would love it. I say Nelson will probably be gone by the time Dallas makes its selection because they are in dire need of a playmaking safety.

My draft choices in the first round would be: ILB and FS.

Another tidbit I noticed reading this article is that these top rated safeties hardly played last year. It says that Nelson didn't play against Ohio State, I thought he did play. Does anybody remember whether he played or not. I remember Nelson's name being called out many times.

I am pretty sure Reggie Nelson played in that game. I watched it and I am pretty sure he was playing...I know Jarvis Moss did. I almost think Moss killed any draft hopes Troy Smith might have had, guy was a beast in that game.

LOL I don't know how many years you've been saying the Pats need to draft a linebacker in the 1st round and how many times we've told you it's pretty unlikely.

If it's any comfort to you I would be comfortable with taking Patrick Willis at 24, but I don't really see any other ILBs that jump out at me as 1st round grade guys. So unless we get Willis, ILB probably won't be addressed till later rounds.

I got P-Will going to Buffalo. If I was in there draft room on draft day, Willis is the guy. They lose London Fletcher Baker to Washington, and then had to release Takeo Spikes, they have no one who can play the MIKE position.

I feel there is enough talent at DB, and RB to draft in the later rounds, but it is hard to pass on a guy that to me, reminds me of Ray Lewis without the character issues, based on his play. I mean when Ray Lewis was dominant. I see P-Will as going to be one of the most dominant LBs the game has had.

Difference is this year it probably cost us a Superbowl.:(

Better rotation at ILB we end up winning the Colts game.

I agree completely that we need to bolster the LB corp., and especially at ILB. To be honest, I hope we come out of the draft with at least to ILBs and at least 1 each FS and SS.

When it comes to the draft however, I always want the Pats take the best player available. So, it's hard to know how it will shake out.

Now, do we too little cap space for Hartwell or Mitchell, both MLBs? Not sure. Anyway, I agree with your point on the ILBs. Just wanted to fwd a link I stumbled onto regarding the top safties in the draft, because I think most of us would love one of them.
