Anything can happen, but this really unbelievable. As I've said elswhere, we COULD draft a QB, OT and RB, but none are serious needs.

In order to evaluate the draft, we need to review the 2008 roster.

MARCH 12, 2008
53 MAN ROSTER

Anything can happen, but as of now we are solid.
As always, I have considered RFA’s and ERFA’s to be signed players. Sign a wide receiver from the Practice Squad and keep whatever 3rd QB we pick up this year and we have a full roster, ready to go.

OFFENSE (25)
QB - 3 Tom Brady, Cassell, OPEN
RB - 3 Maroney, Morris, Faulk
FB - 1 Evans
HB/RB – 1 Mills
C - 2 Koppen, Hochstein
G - 3 Neal, Mankins, Yates
OT - 4 Light, Kaczur, O'Callaghan, Britt
WR - 5 Stallworth, Washington, Welker, Jackson, OPEN
TE - 3 Watson, Dave Thomas, Kyle Brady

Jackson won't be ready to start the season. He'll be on PUP. He's a slow healer so he'll need some extra time. Caldwell and Gaffney will make the initial roster and then when Jackson is ready, there will be some interesting decisions to make regarding whether or not to cut someone at WR or another spot.

Draft a WR in case none of Caldwell or Gaffney are retained beyond this season and in case neither Stallworth nor Washington works out, and perhaps a TE and OL and all looks good on offense.

Cousin,
I agree with everyone of your offensive choices except Mills and WR-Open. I think they will go with seven WR (add back Gafney and Caldwell), because of the health of Jackson. I love Mills but he will be odd man out unless he gets "hurt". Still think they go at least one WR in the draft. Why? Only Welker and Jackson could return in 2008 (although we have the option on Stallworth and Washington). I say one of these two gets resigned for 2008 as in whoever does more. That is why another WR make get taken by BB/SP.

Do you understand that we are discussing the 2008 roster, not the 2007 roster.

I would not be surprised to see Mills being beaten out by a draftee RB, or even having the roster spot go over to the defense.

However, SEVEN wide receiver seems a stretch. If we draft a WR (certainly a reasonable idea) I suspect he'd end up on the Practice Squad or beating out one our current receivers.

If you're talking about the 2008 team and not the 2007 team Isn't this talk a bit premature then? Especially when we don't even know what our draft picks are yet?

PS You didn't include Caldwell on your 2008 roster! Be careful not to let Pats1 get wind of this! ;)

My take is that it will be either Stallworth or Washington and Caldwell or Gaffney. If Jackson prospers in the 2nd half of '07, Stallworth or Washington is out. I expect Gaffney to stick.

Caldwell's contract ends in 2007, as does Gaffney's. I have no problem with extend one or both of them. The point of this thread is that in order to know who to draft in the 2007 draft, you need to understand your 2008 roster needs. That is what the draft is for, to find 2008 (and 2009) contributers.

Are we underestimating Maroney's injury (shoulder socket) ??

He was never the same after sustaining the hit. We haven't heard anything neg or pos about his status. If the Pats are testing RB's its possible they might hope that Lynch (1) or Bush(3) falls to them.

I know I've been pretty much convinced they're going Def all the way, but when I was reading about Lorenzo Booker the reason that comes to mind is that they have a need rated higher than I had them down for...?

So now I have two non-D hypotheticals WHAT IF either of these fall do you scoop them based on they're football value??

* Levi Brown
* Marshall Lynch

These are tough to brush off! and a lot would be based on factors we don't know...

if marsHAWN lynch fell, id take him in a heartbeat

mgteich, i dont think a lot understood the basis of your post
the thing is, stallworth and washington pretty much have one yr deals in essence, because if we were to keep them around we'd have to restructure, and if they do good enough for us to want to keep them around, they might not wanna restructure, kinda interesting, so while i love the way the wrs look for 07, we might be left with very lil (jus welker and chadjack) for 08
