Tony Gonzalez : Open to Return For Contender

Gonzalez wants it his way and is not one at this stage of his career to go "all-in" for any team. He's already noted that he'd possibly make himself available if the Falcons are contending in November. That's a half-assed approach; he ain't hungry. Screw that nonsense. The Patriots need guys who are about TEAM from day one of training camp. I'd much rather see a promising rookie given the job. Gonzalez needs to retire and shut up.

I think that there are certainly some valid points and concerns that you bring up. Personally, if I were in the position to make a decision, (you can stop laughing at any time now) I would probably lean towards giving him a solid look. We've seen Belichick have success working with players of all attitudes, backgrounds, and have the necessary "agreements" in place with veterans who don't want to go through training camp.

As a whole, it's not a good practice to consider for many players, but there are exceptions that may be made; and in my opinion, Tony Gonzalez is probably one of these kinds of examples seeing as how he instantly adds an upgrade of talent when he hits the field. On top of that, it would also limit some concerns that we'd have with Gronkowski staying healthy (not meaning to insinuate anything or open that can of worms), as Gonzalez would still do enough in the move/joker role to keep us going quite nicely.

I'll take the low round picks playing their collective asses off (Seattle) over the twilight of their careers, loser vets (Welker, Manning) all day.

Belichick needs more clay, not more pots. I know the team is already very young, and a few vets will be great, but football is a game for the youth. Did anyone else notice Collins as the most energetic player on the team vs. Denver? Anyone else notice Talib standing on the sideline the whole game? I know that statement seems unfair, but it is what it is. It keeps happening.

That's a nice sentiment, but I'd rather have one of the best TE's in history help out late in the season than a "promising rookie."

If the Patriots contact Gonzalez it would be tampering.

They'd have to go about it in a specific sort of way, but the lines of communication may be open with GM Dimitroff, considering the link to Belichick.

I'm sure Belichick would be able to make contact with the appropriate people who'd need to be contacted, otherwise no trades would ever get done since every NFL player is technically the property of some team.

I'm not saying that it will happen, but if Belichick wishes to pursue it, obviously he knows how to do so.

I get what you're saying obviously, but some proper balance in both groups can go a long way. In the meantime, I don't see why we'd be against any kind of vet signings, specifically the kind per your example, whom are proven NFL talents who recently played in the sport's biggest game.

It's easy to look at Seattle and make them the "perfect" model at the moment considering that they just won the SB, but we go through this just about every year, with maybe the exception being last season. The media hypes up the current SB winner as if they're going to make a run of 5 straight SB appearances, and yet somehow no other team can even show up in back to back games, let alone win it 2 yrs in a row.

Seattle is obviously one of the highest contenders, but that hardly means that they are going to run away with things either. They could just as well get beaten out in their own division and be forced to play 3 games on the road next year as a wildcard contender, in their hopes just to get back to the SB.

This. The 49ers say hello.

Didn't Ted Washington and Brian Waters not have a single snap in TC for us?

I've been on board with TG since we beat them week 4 last year. Heres hoping we have secret discussions with him. He meets up with Brady, Amendola and Dobson out in Cali during the off season, and we see him in September!

Gonzalez is a closet prima donna. I'm not saying he's always been like that, but right now he's all about himself. And what he said about Ryan was unnecessary. He's not a Patriots-type player.

See I didn't think the comments were bad at all. Ryan not an elite QB. Elite QB's don't go 4-12...

So no aging vets.. "just" pick the Sherman's out of the 5th rounds.. check

... though I think 31 other teams are putting that one right up there on their do-list beneath the "draft the next Brady in the 6th and the next Shannon Sharpe in the 7th" :D

I'd have loved to see how this defense played with a healthy Mayo, Wilfork, Spikes, Arrington and Talib.

And now we might lose Wilfork to lingering injury/age/cap concerns, but last year could have been the year that showed this defense being on the cusp.

If it happens I have dibs on Gronkzalez and The G-Men.

Gronkowski and Gonzalez would wreak havoc on opposing defenses in the red zone

Belicheck MAKE IT HAPPEN!

Fine. You take Mr. "I'll Play If And When I Feel Like It," I'll take the stud rookie busting his ass from the first day of camp. My option has a better chance of happening anyway.

After the way Denver beat us very convincingly then were tortured in the SUPERBOWL i SERIOUSLY doubt Tony considers us a contender!! SEATTLE said the nfccg was the REAL SUPERBOWL. Yet the Broncos seemed pretty formidable to us! Our so called #1WR Edelman would make ANY impact on denvers backup laced secondary and overall mediocre defense filled with back-ups. You wouldn't ever notice they were back ups the way they manhandled our WRs and offense. Sad thing is there's an army of fans who consider Edelman a necessity and a vital relevant legitimately dangerous wr that our offense MUST have. I see fans propping his numbers like he is s upper class premier wr. You saw Brady run for a td with a lb to beat then handoff for the 2pointer due to not trusting ANY wr inclduding our so called #1 wr to beat denvers back-ups in their defensive backfield to get open and catch the ball. Noway Tony considers us a SUPER BOWL contender!! We had no passrush or offensive weapons that concerned denver. That includes 100catch Edelman.

Dream on cuz Tony isn't wasting his time in NE unless we cut the fat that is subpar dependable but talent deficient starters like Gregory,Connolly,Sopaga,Wilson, andninko depending on his salar and if he would do a paycut, and injured declining out of shape highpriced vets like Wilfork. And also let sentimental and hometown favorites like Edelman WALK so we can use the salarycap room $$$$ on upgrading our talent on players like a real wr,a rg or CENTER that plays with Power quickness and mauls dlineman.then from there upgrade the defense particlarly the passrush. WE ARE KIDDING OURSELVES IF WE THINK TONY WILL CONSIDER TRYING TO WIN HIS RING HERE WITH THE CURRENT ROSTER TALENT!! LETS BE REALISTICALLY, DOES ANYBODY THINK TONY GONZALEZ VIEWS EDELMAN A REAL #1 wr option. ANY team with legit weapons would even want Edelman unless its as #4 receiving threat behind 2 other wrs and a legit TE. If Edelman is regarded ANY higher in a offense, then your offense isn't not a contender for the SUPERBOWL TROPHY.

Tony isn't coming here unless we make some serious talent improvements!!

:ugh: :ugh: Great idea! Let's gut the roster so a 38-year-old tight end can play half a season if he decides it fits his mood and schedule. Because it's really important what Tony Gonzalez thinks about Julian Edelman and Rob Ninkovich. :bricks:

Yea....... you know Cuz we absolutely suck. One of the worst franchises in the game. Who the **** wants to come here?????

Tony Gonzalez like Miguel said has no say on where he could play in 2014 at this moment. The Falcons could trade him to the Raiders for a 7th rd pick. He is not a free agent nor do I expect him to become a free agent.

I know right? People think Gonzalez would actually fit in with this locker room and teams philosophy?

Let us do all the work and bust our asses off for 14 weeks and then you can jump aboard and get carried to a championship so you can massage your ego a little more.
