Check out this Chargers forum thread titled "Do we need to worried about the Pats?"

http://forums.chargers.com/showthread.php?t=40687

It started yesterday and is already 10 pages long. Here are some of the gems:

============

The Pats are the ones worrying....Why else would they start signing all these free agents like crazy, when for years their forumla of success didn't revolve around signing any big name players in the offseason? The answer is simple my friends...The Patriots are fearful of how much of an NFL juggarnaut the Chargers have become, so they are acting out in desperation by spending big money for FA's in a futile attempt to reclaim their former glory...Unfortunately for them, we cannot be stopped

============

The pats have big injury problems every year. their defense still got a year older they got 1 LB that can run so what?? they are still slow as hell. WR Stallworth is always injured even if he is playing QJ will shut him down then who after stallworth?? their great overpaid Welker or their great blocking tight end they do have brady who will turn them all into very good wide outs but im not impressed with their running game yet

============

Fact. Their biggest wins have hung on questionable officiating and FG kicks that cleared the bar in the waning seconds. How many playoff games have they won without Vinateri ?

============

I worry less about the regular season. The Pasties have built a team designed to win NOW. They don't have a long term future based on current spending. They are going to make one last run for the gold and the future be damned.

============

Brady isn't even a probowl level quarterback in the AFC.

============

I agree very much. Brady just isn't as good as
1) Manning
2) Rivers
3) Palmer
so he will not make the probowl

============

Sure, they have some talented players added but Nothing that would make me feel their overall team strength can compare to S.D.

============

they are the panicked ones after putting inferior talent on the field 2 playoff appearances in a row, thus they are spending like they are. why would we have to worry about them.

I...hate...idiot...fans!!!

I love how every team thinks the Patriots activity this year is because of them.

People show their ignorants with statements like "the Patriots have never been active in free agency before." This simply isn't true. Before each of the last three Superbowls they have brought in big players during the offseason.

Reading this stuff isn't very suprising. Most fans think their team is the best and understate their opponents. It happens on this board too. It all will be sorted out on the field come the season.

To be brutally honest, I don't care
Fans are going to back their teams no matter what and trying to reason with them (or us) is not easy :D

Who is there Coach again? I already forgot his name

Wait, I really forgot who the Chargers signed. Norv Turner? Wade Phillips? Some other guy?

They better worry more about winning their own division. If I was a betting man I'd put my money on shakenabke and the Donks over the bolts and (who is their coach again ?)

3 things:

1 - Their opinions on our offseason moves are laughably wrong

2 - the Chargers were a whole lot better than the Patriots last year. They were 14-2, losing only 2 very close games. They dominated us in the playoffs, and we were very fortunate to win the game. god knows why they stopped giving the ball to LT2, and thank god for Troy Brown.

3 - they have signed no-one, and lost 3 important coaches.

considering the above, I think these 2 teams are now close. that team is loaded w/ young, fast, talent. if we can draft one more stud linebacker and DB, our speed deficit will be narrowed or gone on defense, and we now have some WR's to throw to.

anyways, it's close.

I would tell one of them, if I were to meet one, that, just when you think you've even started to figure out the Patriots M.O., they're changing it up on you. We are the MIT, Stanford and Cal of coaching and front offices. The Chargers are San Diego State. Nice party school, but it won't get you past HR with those other resumes floating around.

lol @ the first 1

I saw the same thing on the Dolphins board. The Patriots are acting out of desperation. It seems that when we sign players and they don't, we are desperate and they are so good they don't need improvement. Of course, the years when they signed players and we didn't, they weren't desperate. No, they were actively improving their team and we were being stagnant.
============

their defense still got a year older
And SD's defense didn't? Impressive.
============

How many playoff games have they won without Vinateri ?
Two of the last three. How many playoff games have the Chargers won in the last ten years or so?
============

The Pasties have built a team designed to win NOW.
Well, no argument here. I agree with the Charger fans who think the Patriots are going to win it all in 2007.

They don't have a long term future based on current spending. They are going to make one last run for the gold and the future be damned.

I have no idea what this is based on.

You should worry because if you couldn't beat our inferior team at home, how are you going to beat our improved team?

To be fair, SoCal cherry-picked the most negative responses. Here are some on the other side of the fence, just from the first four pages of the 10+ page thread:

we had to be worried about the pats the second brady became qb there (even though we have beaten him before)

Hopefully we won't have to face them in the playoffs again.

Hell yes we need to be worried about the Pats. Let's be realistic here...this is the team that beat us last year, and they've easily improved their roster the most out of all the teams in the NFL, let alone the AFC.

They're the only team that worries me though...the Colts won't be as good, and neither will the Ravens probably. But the prospect of playing the Pats in the playoffs in NE next year sucks, frankly...

Yeah we should be worried. Didn't they beat us at home in the playoffs? They're an improved team.

I think the DONKS will be much improved too. More worried about them since we play them twice.

Oh, not to mention they have 2 picks BEFORE us.

To be honest. It will be best for the chargers to realize they've got some good competition next year. A bunch of teams are progressing. Its up to the chargers to meet the challange and work to be better.

I think we should always 'worry' about the Pats, they are a well coached team that consistantly puts a good product onto the field no matter what the 'experts' think of their talent.

We will beat them, because we have a better team, but you should always 'worry' about the pats

That seriously steams me. Its becuase woithoiweutioewyioweuyowueoiyu god that pisses me off, and really gets under my skin. We ******* beat them(xcuse my language) and they are ******* jacking off to LDT's tears because we ******* celebrated(like no body on their team is classless...) I just wish Daniel Graham ***** up Drayton Florence again when he tried to head butt him. Shawn Merriman I hope his ******* wang falls off.

Anyway, after I got that out of my system I feel better. Looking back at my post its funny.

Wow.....It is amazing how ignorant fans of other teams (well I guess we have alot on our home turf too) are about the Pats and the NFL overall......It is sad......I am proud (for the most part) of the great football minds that we have on here....seriously, I have learned alot from so many of you on here and enjoy the opinions/points of view that again, for the most part, are very well thought out and intelligent. I guess it must SUCK to be a chargers fan.......

I am not a betting man but if I was....Denver wins the West this year.
No way they have as good a year as they did last year.

Yep just reading their board and im really pissed off. I really wouldnt be the slightest upset if they never won a game again. Freakin So Cal stuck up snobs. (no offense to Pats fans off course:) )

what do you expect? message boards attract homers.

what the Chargers need to be concerned about are injuries. There's no chance they're as healthy next year as they were this year.

Thanks for adding some balance to the discussion.
