I wouldn't be surprised if there's not a single offensive draft pick in the first 5 rounds.

Maybe a QB or some OL depth. Or a big back. But that's it. OL is signed seemingly forever, we have three TE, we know the WR story.

I wouldn't be surprised if there's not a single offensive draft pick in the first 5 rounds.

Maybe a QB or some OL depth. Or a big back. But that's it. OL is signed seemingly forever, we have three TE, we know the WR story.

Could not agree more, the only exception might be a highly touted OL if available at 24 or 28.. never seem to have enough of those guys.

And what's more: Of the first six veteran acquisitions this offseason, five were on offense (all at skill positions).

Admittedly, that's where the departures are concentrated too, and were concentrated last year as well.

I'm not sure there is much re-loading to do on defense. At least not where the draft is concerned.

Our DL is set and then some. Maybe a project to replace Hill as a backup way down the chart.

Our secondary is chalk full of young, still developing kids who have upside and playoff experience to boot. Players such as Samuel, Hobbs, Gay, Wilson, and Sanders. I'm sure the talent level could be improved upon in this grouping, as it is with any other grouping, but it's certainly not an old group who can't play worth a damn. In fact I'm completely happy with these 5 as our starting secondary. Health might be the only issue but no guarantee comes with a new guy staying healthy.

Yes our LB corps is aging but does anyone really believe BB wants to draft rookie LB's instead of signing them as vets? Maybe a flyer on some kid ..........

I think come draft day the Pats will be selecting the best player available regardless of the position he plays.

I'm not sure there is much re-loading to do on defense. At least not where the draft is concerned.

I am also fairly happy with the prospects of Geno and Sanders (less so than Geno) being capable of manning the safety spots. Yes.

My only concern is the depth in the event that they have to replace the above guys if they get hurt. On this point if better depth players than the likes of Scott, Hawkins, etc are avail;able then I'm all for adding them but at no bigger priority than getting better backups at other needy spots.

Gaffney was the beneficiary of being at the right place at the right time with the right QB tossing him balls. I'll be shocked if he amounts to anything more from here on out.

As for Gay, yes he's been injured. But who hasn't been on defesne? When he hasn't been injured I really liked how he's played. I'm not about to go predicting future health of players but if he can't make it back healthy then I've still got starters in Samuel and Hobbs ahead of him so it's not a big deal. We're talking about a nickel back afterall! And we can always find a vet, like a Scott or Mickens, to fill that role adequately if it's such a big concern.

First off, your projected secondary consists of eight players. That will last approximately six weeks. Secondly, three players - Harrison, Scott, and Hawkins - are nearing the ends of their careers.

I think the Colts/Ravens playoff game demonstrated the importance of having an impact safeties in the secondary: the Ravens played them deep, coming downhill for picks, and they frustrated Manning all game long, instead of for just a half.

I think there is an opportunity for one rookie corner and safety to make this roster immediately. I'm not saying they WILL be drafted first day, it all depends on who's available and when, but if I was playing percentages for those three first day picks, I'd be looking for the Pats to address the secondary twice.

First off, your projected secondary consists of eight players. That will last approximately six weeks. Secondly, three players - Harrison, Scott, and Hawkins - are nearing the ends of their careers.

May I add a third? Samuel, Wilson, Gay, Scott and Hawkins are all in the final year of their contracts. This draft seems like the time to bring in some young players for continuity so that the 2008 secondary doesn't look like the 2006 receiving corps.

Gay has been seriously hurt for at least three straight seasons. That's a trend.

Wilson could easily go the way of Givens, Branch, and Graham.

Hawkins and Scott could easily go the way of Hamilton, Buckley, et al.

Yeah, drafting in the secondary would be good.
