Per @coachingsearch, Pepper Johnson will be joining Bills coaching staff.

Didn't that job (DC) already go to Jim Schwartz?

Good for him ...

They were saying on the radio today that he was more let go than he decided to go ... they didn't speculate as to why ... but good for him .. .hopefully he makes it to DC or higher someday.

Who specifically said this?

Best wishes, Pepper. Thanks for your contributions.

Seriously? I can't believe we let him go - the DL and LB have always been a stable (at times strong) component of our defense. I wonder if it is just typical Pats propaganda spilling the "let go" thing.

I'm sure he was good while here. Whether he wanted to go or he was greased, doesn't really matter to me. Onward and upward...hopefully...

He obviously didn't leave for a promotion as he'll be a position coach again.

So he was either let go or left without a promotion hoping to get a promotion elsewhere down the road. The former seems very possible.

Remember position coaches don't just coach their position they also have a strategic role, for a guy like Pepper it could have been blitz packages, red zone defense, whatever.

With the hiring of the Vikings DL coach I'm assuming Graham will go back to LB and Bill wanted someone with more experience with 4-3 DL.

Good luck to him

Johnson does have more of a future in Buffalol.

Schwartz will get another shot at HC soon which gives Johnson a path to a promotion.

Might be a landing spot for Spikes too...

I think your mistake was assuming that he was going there to definitely become DC, nothing more. He's going to remain a position coach the same way he was here.

Yes, Joker, Jim Schwartz. May the Schwartz be with you...and one more reason to dislike the Bills on top of that. He seems like kind of an arrogant hot-headed type of guy (IMO).

Here is a fun fact: Pepper Johnson has been with Bill Belichick for 24 years of his life...that's a mighty long time.

- Pepper played for the Giants for five years when Belichick was the defensive coordinator there

- Pepper played for the Browns for three years when Belichick was the Head Coach there

- Pepper played for the Jets for two years when Belichick was the assistant head coach / defensive guy there.

- Pepper coached linebackers and d-line the entire time Belichick has been the Head Coach for the Patriots, and that's 14 years.

Do the math...that's 24 years.

Nobody has been with Belichick longer in his football life. Dunno why he "decided" to leave, but Pepper Johnson has a great opportunity in Buffalo as the d-line coach...three Bills d-lineman played in the Pro Bowl this year.

Good for Pepper, now he can toil and labor in the north country... Schwartz is an old BB buddy and if he moves on, may provide more of an opportunity for Pepper...

24 years is a long time.. a whole generation??

The Jills have a pretty good D.

I anticipate another big '4 - 12' or '5-11' season from that team ;)

Best of luck to Pepper. I'll always remember when he forearm shivered Chad Morton on the sideline.
