Superbowl - Pocket Passer vs Unconventional QB

I hate watching the running QBs, they take the intelligence out of the game and they are overrated. The reason for their success this year is their defense, not their mobility. I want a pocket passer. Russell is kind of a hybrid (more Brees than Vick). But I think it might be good for the league if Wilson struggles and Manning wins. I hate watching Kaep, RGIII, etc...

I do think Wilson is special, but it took Rodgers a couple of concussions before he realized that part of his job is not getting hit. It's better to throw it away then jeopardize yourself for a run. With Wilson, I think he's being a bit hampered by the run-option and too much scrambling. There's going to be a point where the hits will take a toll and if you become a 1 look QB and you lose a bit of speed you're now average.

that's the key. And see if he stays healthy, which might be thekey. Just look at Flacco and Manning, neither of them are elite, but the one thing about them is that they play every game. They provide consistency, even though they're not going to win on their own.

Dating back to last year, BB has lost 8 regular season games. 5 of those have been to QB's who aren't afraid to get outside the pocket and make plays with their legs. There is no one set way to play QB at any level. These new "mobile" QB's create problems for defenses that no co-ordinator can really stop. Its also interesting to note that none of these QB's have the weapons that manning and Brees have.

Well maybe he'll get an upgrade over the likes of Golden Tate, Jermaine Kearse and Doug Baldwin. This is as stupid as the people who say Brady is nothing without BB and those defenses/running game we used to have. Stop playing what if and just respect the level at which these guys play at.

Wilson is getting overlooked in the Superbowl. Through two seasons, he has 52 TDs 19 INTs and a 100.6 qbr with mediocre WRs/TEs. He also has a 24-8 regular season record and a 3-1 playoff record. He's essentially had the best first two years for any QB in NFL history yet he's demoted to "game manager/overrated" by many.

So he's been in a mini-slump vs. a tough defensive stretch. He still limited turnovers and made the necessary plays to win. I would not be surprised if he took over the Superbowl with some crazy signature plays.

With running QBs... they can be good but their shelf life is extremely limited. You have to win with them probably in their first five years. Even the best one of the bunch: Steve Young... he was really only effective and injury-free in the first five years he became a starter. After that, it was all downhill. Same with any QB who makes his living with his legs.

I like Wilson, but i would put him #2 too Andrew Luck. I think next year we'll be talking about Luck in the same sentence as Brady, Manning, Brees and Rodgers

As much credit as Andrew Luck got for the comeback and what he's given to the colts, he's also been an absolute turnover machine. He's nowhere near the Brady Manning, Rodgers category and a he's got a ways to go before entering Brees level. Part of the reason why these guys are at where they are is as you said, consistency. Funny how you're willing to throw Luck in their with the greats of today with just a one season of great QB play assuming he cuts down on the turnovers.

I'll tell you why I think Luck will be part of the big 4

1. Intelligence - of all the young QBs, he goes through his progressions better than any other player
2. Accuracy - yeah i know he had turnovers, but his deep ball accuracy is phenomenol, he hits the back shoulder as good as anyone else. He was 23/9 this year which is pretty good.
3. Footwork/Mobility - great footwork in the pocket, not as good as a Brees or Brady yet, but getting there. Better mobility than Rodgers.
4. Size - He's got the size and strength of Big Ben and great mobility of a QB
5. Intangibles - He doesn't seem like an ego maniac or a selfish (but who knows)


This year he was also without his two best weapons in Wayne and Allen.
