Bill Belichick calls hit on Talib a deliberate hit by receiver. "One of the worst plays I've seen."

Jeff Howe ‏@jeffphowe 2m
BB: "I think it was a deliberate play by the receiver to take out Aqib. No attempt to get open...."

Jeff Howe ‏@jeffphowe 2m
BB continued (Welker hit on Talib): " I'll let the league handle discipline on that play. ... That's one of the worst plays I've seen."

Mike Reiss ‏@MikeReiss 2m
That is about as strong as it gets from Bill Belichick.

Well, if it wasn't clear what BB and Welker's relationship was here....

The NFL won't, but what would be sweet justice is if Welker was suspended for the Super Bowl.

I didn't have a problem with Welker until that bull**** cheap shot. He clearly was trying to hurt Talib. Congrats, Wes. Hope you bring your stone hands back to the SB and get trounced by SEA. And most who loved you around this area (New England) no longer do.

Oh but Gazoo said he wasn't trying to do that!

BS. B effin' S.

that was a dirty dirty play by welker. Scumbag to the max.

That was dirty as hell, below Pollard level.

If NFL wants to set the tone, Sherman and Welker should be more than fined.

The league will do jack about it, that play was designed to take Talib out.

But Kam Chancellor will no doubt knock Welker out of the game the first time Peyton throws up one of those ducks over the middle.

So I take if Denver cuts Welker in the off season he isn't coming back to New England ;)

The play had huge momentum implications too. Just after Welker took Talib out, the Pats had manning 3rd and long. Manning throws up a flutter ball, up for grabs and Arrington in for Talib miss plays it and it lands in that little phuck Welkers lap for a very big first down.

If Welker would have just ran into Talib, it wouldn't have been a cheap shot. OPI yes, but not a cheap shot.

The fact that the little bastard lowered his midget body into Talib was a coward move. I hope Sherman breaks his leg on the first play.

What a cheap shot by Welker.....he's dead in my book. Hope Lucas get's his just due in the SB.

No love lost for Mr. Welker here either.

Am very surprised at coach for commenting on it.

Gotta admit, I was prepared to dismiss the thread title as fan board over-reaction. Especially given BB's typical reticence. But, wow, Bill let it rip, by any standard.

I have no problem with what BB said. I had the same opinion and so did all my friends who watched the game with me.

Welker is dead to me. The hit was dirty. I hope the Seattle secondary takes his head off.

And I hope you really honestly consider what you just wrote there. That's disgusting. Wishing injury on any player is disgusting. Do you realize that breaking your leg is an injury that can effect you for life? You wish this on him because he called a slightly above average player "sorry?"

From right after the game on Twitter:
Richard Sherman ‏@RSherman_25 8h
Praying for @NBowman53 ... Hate to see such an amazing player go down like that... Speedy recovery

As for the Welker play, which is what this thread is actually about, that was obviously an intentional pick play, Welker obviously was trying to take him out, and it worked. It was probably the dirtiest play against the Pats since Bobby Wade and Rodney Harrison.

Screw the Donkeys, go Seahawks

And it's that much more surprising given that it apparently was brought up by Belichick as opposed to being a direct answer to a question. Belichick had about 15 hours (minus sleep) to plan what he was going to say, and he clearly planned on making a statement on that play, which is so unlike him.

BB needs to get his ass on the rules committee and do something about those illegal picks. Something HAS to change. It's not fair that they're the only team in the entire league who's allowed to do them. Get some revenge for what Polian did to us.

I was just going to post that. I thought BB was asked about it today but he started his presser off with that, according to Reiss.

Belichick opened his season-ending news conference Monday morning by talking about Welker, unprompted by any questions from reporters.

"I was asked about the hit on Talib, and I feel badly for Aqib," Belichick said. "The way that play turned out -- I went back and watched it, which I didn't have a chance to yesterday.

If hes saying This in public can't imagine what hes saying in private. I can't remember BB EVER making such a comment about a player before.

#Bills S Jim Leonhard RT @jimleonhard Looked like Welker was on a suicide mission on that route. Unreal pick he set, not sure how not a flag

Terrible, uncharacteristically dirty play. Looked like retribution.
