This happens every year, though, everyone we want "will never be there".lately it seems that everyone is running fast times and now "the only way to get them is to trade up"
whatever, fine,
I say we stay where we are and pick the best 2 players that fall to us.
Somebody has to fall.
I don't expect to get him at #24 but the "he'll never be there" game gets a little old every year. There's a report linked on PFT that says the 'Boys (#22) have the hots for him. I don't see many (any?) mocks where he's still on the board at 24.
Some scouts think that Nelson cannot not play in a complex defense.
Is the guy a football player? Is he smart? Does he put the team first? Those are the important measurables.
Some scouts think that Nelson cannot not play in a complex defense.
Some scouts think Willis won't be able to take on guards and shed blocks in a 3-4 as an ILB.
With the microscope\circus that has become the NFL draft are there any prospects who don't have at least a few scouts being critical of them?
I though Leinart was a sure fire top 5 pick and they poked holes in him.
The good news is if Nelson cannot pick up the system, BB will know with in 5 minutes of his visit to Gillette and Nelson will hear "Good luck in your NFL career", quickly.
But, I'd be interested to hear which scouts said that. It's all in the eye of the beholder. Even the professional scouts differ.

A bunch of posts here speculated on this after the senior bowl where he was great if he came off the ball unblocked and could fill holes but when a lineman got on him he had a hard time getting off the blocks.

Weaknesses: He lacks elite bulk and may need to add some weight in order to hold up better as an inside linebacker in the NFL. He has a muscular build but he does not possess ideal lower-body thickness. Plays a bit high at times and will let too many defenders get into his body. He is above average in terms of range in coverage, but he can be slow to diagnose at times. He also displays below-average ball skills in coverage. Plays through pain but he has had trouble staying healthy throughout his career and always seems to be battling lingering injuries, some of which include knee, finger, foot and shoulder.

Negatives: Gets walled-off by the larger blockers when he fails to keep his hands inside his frame … Lacks ideal bulk to control or split double teams … While he has the speed to cover deep, he is a bit of a liability in this area, as he looks slow to see the routes develop when working in the zone … Eyeballs the quarterback too long and is not good at anticipating the pass, struggling to get his head turned quick enough to track the ball in flight … Does not have the natural hands needed to snatch the interception, struggling to field the ball cleanly … Slippery in his moves through trash, but will get walled-off once a bigger blocker latches onto his jersey to ride him out … Plays with pain, but has had several injuries in recent years that lead to questions about his durability.
Hey, c'mon guys. Open your eyes. We are already discussing Reggie Nelson Ad Nauseum in the draft forum.

We need all draft posts to be placed in the draft forum, so that maybe we can draw some more traffic over there.
Hey BF, I think I actually GET IT now. THX.
That is good info. No one expects a finished product from a rookie. But the part that I highlighted does give me some pause. That is the opposite from some of the other scouting reports that I have read, PFW,GMjr,and some on line stuff.
The rest can be coached and his "bulK' can be improved through the weight/conditiong program. He does have the frame to add bulk, in the right way, so it doesn't effect his speed.
