Asante aside cause of other threads I have heard the pats dont have much intrest in Hartwell so what is next? do they have another FA splash? what FA are out there that still intrest you? is it resigning guys like troy or seau? is there a trade possibility? or have we done enough and the draft will fill the rest?

Well, there is a draft coming. We can probably expect some indication regarding Seau and Gardner and Troy Brown and Ray Mickens. A formal announcement on Davis' retirement, perhaps with an announcement of his hiring as a Strength and Conditioning assistant. A trade of some sort during the draft is almost a given. Then rookie camp and mini-camp, Beijing...I'm getting goose bumps!

Don't know how much cap money is left but unless we pick up a scrap heap type of player for the secondary like we did in the past I think we first sign draft picks then deal with players already within the team, otherwise I think the FA shoping spree is over.

im startin to think more and more that vrabel will see most of his snaps at the inside

yeah, we need to keep money so we can re-sign two guys that we really need to keep around for a while: warren, and wilfork

We need to keep some financial flexibility to respond to the June 1 cuts. Gonna be some nice players there.

The new CBA killed that player pool.

June 1 is no longer a special date. Any cuts now can be treated as if they are after June 1 for cap purposes.

I expect that we will sign 2-3 more free agents, maybe including Hartwell. I certainly expect to see us sign a couple of ILB's before the draft. But they could be Seau and Gardner. Still, even that would be a major step forward towards stability at the position.

The patriots are on a roll. We could see Samuel and hartwell.

Where did you hear that the Pats don't have much interest in Hartwell? Last I heard, it looked to be almost a done deal that the Pats sign him.

According to a league source, the team has showed strong interest in free agent linebacker Edgerton Hartwell, a 28-year-old cut by the Falcons last Friday, and the veteran has reciprocated. The source said the Patriots are still “looking for a run-stuffer” and Hartwell could fit the bill.

I'm guessing Hartwell will be signed this week. Hopefully, we turn our efforts to Ken Hamlin, but I am guessing we could be done for a while if and when we sign Hartwell.

ilb is def the weakest position on this team right now
with safety comin in second

I am not sure where it came from but I think I saw it on here. I believe it had what seemed like a reliable source.

I think that after the Samuel signing is announced and the Pats free up a couple million more in cap money......they do nothing until after the draft. THEN depending on who they get, the use the $6MM (just a rough guess of what they will have available to sign FAs) they have left on the run stuffing LB, STs, and perhaps a Warren extention.

There is no hurry in signing a Hartwell type (Seau?) until after the draft at the earliest... and it may not come until June. So while its unfortunate for us fans, since there won't be much to talk about over the next 6 weeks except draft speculation, it is the most prudent way for the Pats to proceed.

It was a poster who said the Reiss had commented that the reports that the Pats were interested in Hartwell were false. They had no interest at that time.

Like many others, I'd really like to see the Pats now look to speed up at inside linebacker. Even if Vrabel moves inside, we still need quite a bit of help there. Tedy should no longer be in there every down. Be good to find a 27-30 year old guy with a bit of juice, perhaps a Seau-style old-timer and also look to get a little younger in the draft.

If Vrabs does play inside there's also the question of back up for the outisde guys too.

Well, I guess we will find out this week. I haven't seen it written in his blog or articles so I don't know how accurate the information is. I know people take Reiss word as god and take what he says as the final word on Patriots rumors, but the Herald guys have scooped him many times this year. John Tomase reported Bruschi broke his wrist days before Reiss confirmed it. Tomase also scooped Reiss on the Adalius Thomas signing.

I know people...

I know people, too.

I couldn't find anything in print by Reiss shooting down the Hartwell/Patriots talk either.

So is this a dig at Reiss or at people that favor Reiss? Is that 'all' people or 'most' people "take Reiss (sic) word as God"?

I'm really trying to really dig anyone. I like Mike Reiss. But a lot of people on this board dismiss John Tomase's and Albert Breer's scoops all the time saying they won't believe it until Mike Reiss reports it like he is the only person with connections inside the Pats' organization.

I didn't mean it to be a dig. I just think there is a bias towards Reiss and against the Herald guys on this board. Not everyone does it, The thing is that I find that the Herald scoops the Globe on a lot of Patriots stories.

Got to believe it will be a couple of veteran LB unless they like the growth of Alexander, Mays and Woods. We've improved our starting lineup for 2007 but haven't touched better depth on defense yet. Lots and lots of time for that but it hasn't happened yet so I would think that's next.

OK. Some people do, some people don't.
