I was under the impression that he tore his acl and is "most likely" out indefinetly, at least till late fall. People on this board keep talking like he will be ready to play this upcoming season and I don't think this is realistic. He is a bust!! Our biggest in a while.. thanks

your the first person to say that! I'm glad to see that we have such an unoriginal poster on this board...

its partially torn and he got surgery right away. hes rehabbign now.

hes not a bust.a bust is determined 3-4 years down the road.

You don't seem to really have a question so much as a disagreement with the way some here choose to view Jackson's potential availability. He may be ready by camp, or he may not. Most here assume that with a full off season and camp even if the knee is ready to go the player likely won't be. That is why some are already penciling him onto PUP figuring he would be a mid season addition/replacement.

He may be a bust or simply prove to be injury prone, but it's a little early to write him off entirely. Plus we don't have a pressing need for him to be ready for 2007 any longer, so as long as BB feels he will eventually contribute commensurate with the level in which he was drafted we wait. We have 3 years + left to figure that out and on a rookie contract we can afford to wait him out.

That's correct. I would say that it's almost a lock he starts the season on PUP and probably moves to IR from there.

There's a lot of wishful thinking on this board about Chad Jackson.

He'll get a shot to see if he can play in the NFL in 2008, his third season after coming out of college.

The sources I've read indicate that there's a decent chance he's back for training camp. And that, at worst, it was a partial tear not a complete tear. I'm not a doctor, nor do I have any inside information; but that's what I've read.

When are you going to get around to asking your Chad Jackson question?

He might try to "go" in training camp. However:

1) He's starting from absolute ground zero having never grasped the NFL game in 2006.

2) He will have missed the entire off-season program and mini-camps.

3) He's going to be testing a repaired knee. It usually takes players quite a while to regain their confidence and I can't imagine that he has much confidence to start with right now.

I don't think the Pats will waste a roster spot unless he can conclusively demonstrate that he is grasping the system and ready to perform at the NFL level in camp. They'll stash him on the PUP/IR list.

I'm not quite sure I see your jump in logic from starting the season on the injured list to being a bust.

But to answer your question:

Is there a chance that Jackson will start the season on the injured list? Yes, definately.

Does that mean his career with the Patriots is a failure? No, and very few would make such an odd assertion.

The good thing is that they don't need him. Adding Stallworth and Welker ends that issue. However, I doubt they'll be too quick to hide him in some closet, he needs to be on the field as much as possible, even just in practice, and dumping him on IR won't get that done.

Obviously, the coach and general manager have determined that they can not expect any contribution from CJ this upcoming year. If he contributes, it is a bonus but the plan is to forge ahead without him. They are to take their chances with the top tier YPC and YAC wideout and a slot guy who is 10 yrs (at least) younger than his replacement. And Caldwell did go for 700 yds last year, including a sick 50 yard reception against the Chargers which got BB his biggest upset since the first superbowl.

So big deal about CJ. They were 4 pts from the super bowl last year without him and they should be twice the team they were this year without him.

After 2008, if CJ only plays 5 out of 100+ playoff snaps, I will then consider calling him a bust, and hopefully he can find work with Charles Rogers repairing the tunnel to the airport.

Even if Jackson misses the entire 2007 season, he will only be 23 during the 2008 season. He has the whole offseason to study the offense, and if he misses the entire season, he'll have even more time to learn it. My opinion is that he will be PUP'ed. Too early to call him a bust. If he plays the entire 2007 season, jeez, that would make this offense even more interesting. Plus, I feel that the Pats will draft another receiver, in the third round or later. I'm really less worried about Jackson after the Welker & Stallworth signings. I think Jackson will be a fine player in the NFL, not down on him at all.

The original scoop was from a draft board forum in response to the Poster 2 below you.:D

He apparently had some info, but his confusion and exaggeration made his scoop questionable until the Boston writers got hopping.

I believe his operation was 4 days after the Colts game which would lead one to believe there was limited swelling and he'll likely be ready for training camp or earlier per Reiss and Tomase.

In my limited reading, it has been noted that players that rely on speed and cuts, (RB, WR), usually take 2 years to get 100% back. That might have caused the confusion.

IMO he had arthroscopic surgery which at worst is a 2 month recovery period.
He had surgery 4 days after the championship game if it was a serious injury there would have been a couple of weeks period before surgery was done.

Source please?

Just because somebody posted it on the internet or some beat writer opined it, doesn't make it true. I have heard ZERO authoritative information from the New England Patritots. I'm sure that, if they commented, they'd say he is "day to day".

Seriously...all we know is that he had ACL surgery. Anything beyond that is pure speculation on somebody's part.

Tomase said the surgery was 4 days after the season and say what you want about him, he was pretty good last year about getting good info on injuries.

LOL, as if we even know that. Have the Patriots said one word about it?

As BelichickFan said above, Tomase said it was a surgery 4 days after the injury, which as others have pointed out, probably tells us a lot about the severity of the injury.

Either way, we really truly won't know anything definitive anytime soon.

BTW, as I read the ACL "literature", there really isn't any difference between surgery for a partial tear and a full tear. The ACL itself cannot be repaired. The reconstruction surgery involves harvesting a tendon from elsewhere (usually the patella) and replacing the ACL with bone grafts.

The timetable for recovery is the start of cutting and mobility training at six to eight months. That would be anywhere from the beginning of August to the beginning of October for Chad Jackson.

If he were a veteran who knew how to run NFL routes in the Pats system, he could conceivably be ready to contribute, at least in limited fashion, early in the regular season. But, he does NOT know how to run NFL routes in the Pats system...and he can't practice that until his knee allows him to being full-speed cutting. That spells PUP to me.

But all of that same literature states that surgery needs to wait a month until after the injury - we just need more facts at this point before we know what's up.
