Im really excited for caldwell next year

personally I love this guy, a perfect wr fit for the pats system, I know he was a bit rough last year but from what I saw of him and how he improved all year, it was really exicting to watch.

now I know he ended the season on a bit of a sour note with that dropped catch against the colts but on the whole I was more than impressed with the guy. and obiviously the receiver corps is now looking great I still see Caldwell as our number one guy for Brady, the two of them seemed to click

The last 10 weeks of the season, Caldwell had 620 yards on 46 catches. If he keeps that pace going into next season, you're talking about 70+ catches for 1000 yards...

No reason to think Reche isn't still Brady's most consistent target next season.

Caldwell is good , not great and people will remember him more for the 2 drops against Indy, then some solid play in the second half of last yr.. I still want to see Gaffney in our offense for a full yr.. But Stallworth and Welker will make Gaffney and Caldwell more effective..:rocker:

Caldwell is a good receiver who will help our team. As usual fans have knee jerk reactions so after the Indy game many people think he is terrible despite having a good year. I think he will benefit next year from not having to be the guy but instead be a complimentary receiver. I think he will be more comfortable there.

I don't fault a guy for some nervous moments. Sometimes it's just caring too much. He's worked hard.

Having said that, I think Gaffney's better. I think they'll be some fierce competition at 3,4,5 and someone's going to have to take journeyman money or shop around.

Nice to have some talent and continuity for Tom.

Caldwell is unfairly getting the Bill Buckner treatment in this town. Maybe not nearly as bad, but he had a solid year and is being vilified for one or two plays.

Caldwell is our opening game starter and will benefit from Stallworth drawing attention away from him. The only way Caldwell isn't our #2 WR is if Gaffney or Welker have a spectacular preseason or Caldwell gets hurt. The starting job is Caldwell's to lose.

I think his numbers of catches could go down, but he may get more yards because he won't be blanketed like he was this past season. He was forced to get very short passes because the intermediate routes were taken away.

Not many on this board really care about stats. Those who dont, would rather just blab on about their personal opinions even if they hold no weight. I think its safe to say we can blame ESPN for that one.
However, I love the stats, and appreciate that you have posted them. You can look at a player one way, and say whatever you wish of them, but stats hold more truth then anything anyone else can say. Not stats from a fantasy football standpoint, but the stats that correlate into winning.
Caldwell provided alot of those stats and really progressed as the yr. wore on and his number 2 receiver (gaffney) began getting better. I love the Welker signing, and the stallworth signing. However, their is no reason to discredit what the players we had last yr. did when thrown into the lions den at receiver. Now, if we can keep Caldwell and Gaffney goin' like they did at the end, throw in Thomas, Stallworth, Welker, and hopefully Watson with Faulk, I honestly hope we dont have a player that is the true #1.
With those players, we'll have ample oppurtunity to create massive mismatches and just line those players up all over the field. Then, we just let Brady do what Brady does best. Hit whoever's open!

Brady is so great at spreading the ball around that I think that Gaffney, Stallworth, Caldwell, and Welker could all have similar numbers of catches this season. I could see them all in the 65-80 range. SHould be fun to sopread it out this year w/ those 4 plus C. Jackson, Troy Brown, Watson, and Faulk. I'm thinking a big year for Brady, possible career year. Should also take quite abit off of Maroney's shoulders.

Gaffney and Caldwell are great depth receivers. I have a hunch though, that one will be cut during training camp. We'll start the season with Stalworth, Welker, Gaffney (or Caldwell), Jackson and a draftee as our WRs.

Maybe it's the nerd in me, or the baseball fan in me, but I have always loved stats...stats are important for the same reason they are misleading...there's so many variables in sports that you could easily say stats are meaningless and misleading. I agree, Brady's going to hit the open man. There's only so many receptions to go around, and yes, Caldwell's stats will likely drop this season with more targets for Brady.

But the fact that he had a strong statistical season last year, particularly down the stretch, should be reason enough for those that still doubt him to cut him some slack.

I think they had no choice but to throw to him and Watson last year. That's not preferable.

My prediction is that Caldwell's catch total (relative to a complete season) drops but that his ypc goes up.

Caldwell's quality of life is going to improve dramatically now that defenders have no choice but to give him more room and worry about others on the field.

Same goes for Watson. Barring injury we get to see what both can do in terms of quality - not quantity.

This is a very good thing for Caldwell and the team, but not necessarilly his pass catching stats.

I'll go further and predict that Caldwell will be much more of a deep threat this year than he ever was last year. Although some will (in my prediction) say this proves we always had our deep threat in Caldwell I think it will be indicative of how having a deep threat like Stallworth opens up the game for everyone on the field, including Caldwell, Watson, Gaffney, the RBs and Brady.
