I think the matchups matter more than anything else (for example, if I were ranking based on who I think will have the better game this week, I'd pick Rivers over Brees, even though I think Brees is by far a better QB). If not looking at matchups, I'd go:

I think Kaepernick's resume is accomplished enough to deserve a spot at 4. He's had some impressive road playoff wins so early in his career and is definitely more battle tested than Luck or even Rivers. He's already beaten Rodgers twice in the playoffs. Being down 17 last year at ATL in the championship game and somehow pulling that one out was unreal. Kaepernick's drive at the end of the game last night was a work of art because it left no time for Rodgers. I don't look as Kaepernick as a "running" qb either, he's just as dangerous throwing it as running, unlike RG3 or Vick.

Luck has the highest ceiling for potential of any qb on this list, and in 3 years he could be the best qb in the NFL. But for now, he needs to at least get to an AFCCG or beat Brady/Manning in the playoffs to be higher on this list.

Kaepernick's playoff record is 3-1 with his only loss being the superbowl.

I look at his couple of seasons as anomalies rather than the norm. It seemed as if he was not healthy at all and his performance reflected that in 2011 and 2012. Now it seems as if he's healthy again and throwing better, back to where he was 2008-10.

Luck threw several ints against an anemic Chiefs D at HOME. I'm not sure which is more impressive...beating Alex Smith at home or Aaron Rodgers on the road? SF's D gets way too much credit--Rodgers was picking them apart too and if he had one-two more minutes, he probably scores to tie or win.

It wasn't perfect, but given the conditions SF's drive at the end of the game was impressive because Kaepernick mixed high percentage short passing to Crabtree and timely runs to Gore/scrambles to milk the entire clock. Even the best qbs in Brady and Manning tend to score too quick sometimes and leave too much time for their putrid defenses in SBs...something we have witnessed before a few times. Sometimes a great qb has to play defense and keep his D off the field the final possession of the game. Brees did that at Philly...hopefully Brady does that at Denver

THIS from someone who puts Manning as the #1 QB in the playoffs? I know what you based it upon, but WHEN has Manning EVER succeeded with the best talent in the post-season? You have watched him in the post-season over the past decade haven't you? How many MVP's has Manning squandered with an EARLY exit from the playoffs? MANY of those years, ANY exit from the playoffs was considered early by the talking heads. How anyone would put Manning #1 QB in the playoffs is beyond me. Even his SB post-season consisted of 3TD's and 7INT's - for the entire post-season. Sanders should have been MVP that year.

In any game from this point on, any of these QBs can outplay another. They're all really good.

I view Rivers as a stat accumulator who doesn't get his team the points that are consistent with the stats, ie best between the 20s or in garbage time. I also see him as having been a major part of a team that has dramatically and consistently underachieved and him as one of the main reasons.
Fantasy football, he is great. Real football he can make plays but I could never trust him to win 3 or 4 playoff games in a row to get a Championship without spitting the bit.
