Which Prospect Most Excites You?

How about EJ Gaines?
SEC experience. Good in run support. And showed he can shutdown receivers, did an amazing job with Evans.
He's had a great year in 2013 but I personally don't see him as a fit on the Pats, really gotten to like him more and more each week however

Sorry, haven't seen him yet.

Eric Ebron, Chris Borland, Lamarcus Joyner, Darqueze Dennard and Jason Verrett. If somehow we can come out of the first 2 rounds with a combination of these guys then I'm overjoyed.

Oi, hands off Borland and Verrett ;) :p

Do you know who is the most conspicuous by his absence from this thread?

Captain Hindsight.

Hey Cap'n, why don't you throw up some prospects you like, using that invaluable, expert opinion of yours?

Or do we have to wait a couple of seasons?

For me there are 4 guys I loved at the start of the process and I'm gonna stick with them.

Ra'Shede Hageman
Louis Nix III
CJ Mosley
Trey Millard
Now that Ohio State's Ryan Shazier is entering, I'd include him. There's a _slight_ possibility he's available late in the first. Think of him as a more explosive, slightly bigger Lavonte David.

Watching him flash to the ball in the Big Ten Championship Game was impressive. He's the real deal. He'd be a big boost to the LBer corps, esp. in the nickel. I am not sure we keep Spikes, anyway. Such a liability in the passing game. It's like watching Fred Flintstone race in the Indy500.

Would be insane to use a top pick on LB this year with Patriots playing more then 50% of the time with only 2 LBs on the field.

In my mind, when I plug all the players into the Patriots offense, the single most exciting one to me is WR Evans of Texas A&M.

Just imagine what his combination of size and hands could do in the Pats offense, even if he has just average speed.

Potential production in the red zone alone, makes him worth trading up for.

Sadly however as this draft continues to shake out, I see more and more opportunities for BB to trade out of the first round and double up the 2nd and 3rd round picks.

Sammy Watkins, I'd give up a few inches for his explosiveness.

In the real world, though, to state the obvious, Jace Amaro, he's exactly what we need roaming the middle with Gronk.

When you say you'll give up a few inches, do you mean in the John Bobbitt sense?

Yeah, I almost threw in a "that's what she said" there.

I'm old enough that I may give up a few real inches for Sammy :rocker:

Aaron donald. Don't know if he excites the most but I think he'll be good. Gets penetrators from the insude. We could use that.

I love me some Aaron Donald, that pressure and penetration into the backfield is exactly what our defense needs.

Reality is that Edelman walks and Patriots still have 3-4 undersized receivers and Talib is staying.

Amendola, Boyce, Moe and mayby KT can handle the middle + All the TEs.

Talib might check the market but can't find one reason why Patriots ain't offering something simulary, unless ofc Revis joins us witch is a pipe dream.

For someone who lives in the world of reality:

If Julian Edelman walks then Odell Beckham Jr., wide receiver from LSU.

If Aqib Talib walks then Justin Gilbert, cornerback from Oklahoma State.

I like Justin Gilbert in our defense. If we keep Talib and Ryan makes a year two leap, then we can afford to bring Gilbert along slowly.

I really am hoping we sign Talib and have him playing opposite Ryan as the starters next season, along with Arrington covering the slot receiver.

So, ignore draft needs, ignore logic and philosophy, ignore big schools and ideal lengths, sizes and 3 cone times. Which player(s) most excites you as future Patriot for the forthcoming draft?

Now, I love Brandon Scherff, Darqueze Dennard, Kyle Fuller, Eric Ebron (maybe) and Justin Gilbert but I think if I could have one player in this draft, I'd wish for Aaron Donald. Want to see why?

I think he could be faster than Carl Lewis off the blocks and then often runs around like an OLB. He's probably a horrible fit but I don't care.
I love his burst off the line, to me thats one of the first things i look for in a D-lineman. The burst off the line and the Ten yard time. But what caught my attention was his arm length, to short, he could have problems when O lineman hold him (no pun intended) arms length. Many years ago the pats drafted a monster named Mike Ruth, big strong fast (won the Outland trophy in 1985) but he had short arms. I remember reading a scouting report on him that emphasized that. I thought big deal he has short arms. But Ruth turned out to be a big bust because of his short arms. But, maybe this guys burst off the line will make up for it.

I don't want to crap on anyone's binky and I like him myself, but I don't think his size will translate well to the NFL. To a certain degree, he reminds me of former Oregon St. and current Bear defensive tackle Stephen Paea. Paea is super strong and quick off the snap, but he occasionally gets engulfed by bigger lineman and his short arms make it difficult for him to reach out and drag a running back down.

I hope not. While the Pats have hit on Every 1st round pick in the BB era. They're recent draft history in the Second rnd is terrible.

He's supposed to have relatively long arms. Looks that way on tape anyway. maybe it just looks that way because he's relatively short and squat. Have to see at the senior bowl.

Wilfork has kind of short arms.
