Lovie Smith in as Tampa Bay Bucs HC; Revis may be out

Re: Report: Bucs are hiring Lovie Smith as their HC

I'll be jumping on the Bucs D in fantasy next year. Should be interesting to see who they bring in to look after the O.

Re: Report: Bucs are hiring Lovie Smith as their HC

PFT is now reporting Glazer's tweet, and mentioning Rich McKay as the possible GM (Rooney rule slowing that down).

ESPN is also reporting it, via Adam Schefter. It's nice that Schefter gave Glazer the credit, as ESPN rarely has the decency to do that sort of thing.

Bucs and Lovie Smith reached agreement, as @JayGlazer reported. Deal had been in works for days. Smith was favorite all along. Back to Bucs.

Re: Report: Bucs are hiring Lovie Smith as their HC

I wasn't aware of Leslie Frazier's Pats connection: Per Wikipedia, while at the peak of his playing career, he had what was tantamount to a career-ending injury in the Super Bowl.

LaCanfora has some things to add:

Look for Lovie Smith to bring Jeff Tedford as his offensive coordinator and Leslie Frazier as his defensive coordinator

Some rumblings around the league former Bears GM Jerry Angelo - a former Buc exec as well - might be a part of Team Lovie in Tampa

Re: Report: Bucs are hiring Lovie Smith as their HC

I would have liked to see what he could have done to the Lions D.

Re: Report: Bucs are hiring Lovie Smith as their HC

Cool.

I wonder who they'll hire after they fire him in a few years.

Re: Report: Bucs are hiring Lovie Smith as their HC

PFT is floating an interesting notion: Tampa could cut loose of Revis.

Darrelle Revis, a man-to-man coverage specialist who reportedly didn’t like being used in zone coverage this past season, doesn’t fit the traditional duties of a cornerback in the Tampa Two. Given a contract that pays him $16 million per year with no guaranteed money or frills that would trigger a cap hit, the Bucs could walk away from Revis and save $16 million in both cash and cap space for 2014.

Talib, Revis, and Grimes could conceivably all be on the market at the start of free agency.

Lovie Smith in, Revis out?

This is probably more bye week mind wandering but this article piqued my interest.

Lovie Smith’s hiring could end Revis experiment - PFT

So the Buccaneers have all but made the hiring of Lovie Smith official. He is a defensive minded coach that already predominately uses a Cover 2 going to the place that revolutionized it. Derelle Revis is a much better man corner who in our current scheme would fit perfectly. With Revis having a down year and new coaching staff having cap and draft incentive to part with him, it makes a lot of sense. It reminds me a lot of the situation with Nnamdi Asomugha in Philly, after one down year people didnt bat an eye at the thought of cutting him.

Obviously he would still come at a high price and if the Bucs dont outright cut him we might have to trade for him. It would also raise questions about another ex-Buc corner in his last year with us. Obviously most would prefer to keep Talib a Patriot but if not I would be very open to making a move for Revis this offseason. Best case scenario after being another year removed from injury he looks more like his old self, we pair him with Talib for the best CB duo in the league, and he picks off whoever starts for his old team twice a year.

Sounds good to me. Almost too good to be true so it probably wont happen. But one can hope! :D

Nothing would make me happier this off season that Revis deciding he wants a Superbowl ring and coming to New England to stick it to the Jets.

Please sign this beast with Talib.

Didnt see this in time but I started a thread about the intriguing possibility of Revis being available. I like it a lot. Nothing would feel better than to beat the JEST with one of their best and former players!

hell no to revis unless he takes a massive pay cut.

Im hoping if he does indeed get cut the market on its own will lower is value. There will be a few good CBs out there this offseason (including Talib :() and he is coming off a down year that raise questions about his future ability after his knee injury. Sounds like a low pay prove it year to me.

Revis is a me first player...always has been. He would rather have the $$ then SBs.

Have fun in **** organizations mevis

Darrelle Revis in his prime playing man to man in a Patriots uniform.....

I wish.

I would rather the 3 good players the Patriots could sign to long terms deals than one Darrelle Revis (as mouth watering as the prospect is). His contract is the only prohibitive problem in my eyes.

Would probably be able to get close to 4 good players for that $$...much rather have Grimes and Talib then Revis

Sounds like a situation similar to Rodney Harrison if we can make it happen.
