A little speculation re: Schiano, Schwartz, and connections to BB

With Schianno and Schwartz both getting fired today, the thought occurred to me that both these guys are buddies with BB. IIRC BB once tried to hire Schwartz as an assistant on a couple of occasions, and his close relationship to Schianno is well known here. Also BB currently has the smallest assistant coaching staff in the league, So I put 2 and 2 together and wonder if either or both these guys might be joining our coaching staff in the off season. Failing at being a HC doesn't mean you can't be a great assistant.

While he's close to Belichick, Schiano is a terrible, unlikable person as a coach. The way he handled the Josh Freeman situation was horrible.

Schiano will probably go to Penn State to replace Bill O'Brien if he heads to the Texans.

Schiano's players didn't seem to think that about him. And he was 100% right about Freeman.

I agree Schiano is not likely to get a gig in the NFL right away, if ever again and will get a HC gig in college.

A guy who served as a HC is relatively unlikely to take a position lower than OC or DC (or some flaky title that sounds like higher than a posiitonal coach).

It just spoils their marketability to get another high paying HC job (college or pros) to take a lower prestige position.... better to try for an espn job or sit out a year to maintain future earning potential.

And who would you have them replace: While Patricia is relatively young as a DC; he now has a good year under his belt (# 9 D in league aint bad). So unlikely BB would put someone over the top of him. McDaniels if he isnt interested in the Clev or Det jobs; isnt going to be displaced either.

So while nice thought; I dont see it happening.

well Hue jackson isn't a Coordinator lol but your point stands. I don't know what I'd do with either of them on this coaching staff or if I think they even have a place here. I can see schwartz sticking around and I wouldn't be surprised if Schaino takes another NFL job but with a lesser title, it depends upon his ego.

He should have been investigated by law enforcement for the Freeman incident. He leaked confidential medical information to the press to try to ruin a player's career, then said he was 100% comfortable with his actions. He's a scumbag.

If Pepper got a DC offer, then I suppose that would be the window to bring one of them in but even then, it would seem it would be short-term since I would imagine they would want to be either a HC or DC position at worst. Bill had Capers and Pees in for short gigs only to see them leave for similar positions. It seems like for the most part, Bill likes to develop and promote from within. I think we'll see one of the quality control guys up next to assist with a position.

Almost anybody could come here for a year on a Capers kind of gig. And if they're getting a payout from their last contract, doing that might not even have much financial (opportunity) cost.

It probably makes more sense for Schwartz (committed to the pros, we presume, and has worked for BB in the past) than Schiano (probably looking now to land in the right college gig).

Rod Marinelli is currently working as a D-line coach.

I always wondered why the media immediately put the blame on the Bucs for releasing Freeman's medical records. He had absolutely NO motive to do that. Why would a team release records that significantly lowers the trade value of a player they are trying to trade.

In fact the ONLY one who had a motive to release those records were either Freeman or his agent. They wanted to force the Bucs to release Freeman so he could get paid twice for being a below average QB (its the American way ) And the stink that was made when those records were released forced the Bucs to exactly what the agent and Freeman wanted. The Vikings paid him (again) and after seeing him in action for only one game, never let him close to the field again.

People ought to remember that it is very difficult for reporters to cultivate sources within a team's organization. Every team runs its operation like its the CIA and the only "inside" info that gets out is what they want out there. Why would a person risk his job to speak with a reporter unless ordered.

Players are a poor source because their jobs are on the line and they know their organizations want everything kept "in the family". So what we get from them is pabulum and platitudes for the most part. So where are these mediots getting their information.....the agents. Almost everything that PFT puts out as speculation is agent driven. I don't blame Florio, he just uses the sources he has available, and the agents use him right back.

I don't know if Schianno should have been fired. I'm sure some of his players thought he was to tough. However IIRC all his former Rutgers players (which if I recall includes about half the Pats roster ) seem to have a lot of respect for him. He resurrected a program that no one said could be done. He developed a lot of good NFL players recently. and BB liked him. Those are some good qualifications

I know its very unlikely he'd ever land here, but if he doesn't it won't be because BB doesn't think he could do a good job.
