I started looking at mock drafts and I see a lot of them with the Patriots taking Posluzny at 24 or 28. I know that this means nothing, but the idea of him becoming a patriot just does nothing for me. I honestly can't say I have seen a ton of him on the field, but I just have a bad feeling that he is not going to be all that good.
Am I wrong for this feeling? what am I missing about this guy? Anybody have an opinion either way on this guy?

I'm right there with you.

Hey DryHeat,
why does he put a bad taste in your mouth? For me I saw guys like Hawk and Carpenter last year and they could really move and find the ball, I have not seen that out of Pos, not sure if that is because of the injury or playing out of position, but I would rather see him in a different uniform.

It's not that I think he's a bad player. I just can't see him as a first rounder. And I can't see him playing LB in a 3-4 either. If he has the quicks, I'd think about him as a safety, but not on the first day. If you put two fat asses in front of him in a 4-3, he'll be okay. I certainly don't think he's as good as Hawk, Urlacher, Keith Bulluck, Dan Morgan, or Al Wilson were when they were coming out, who seemed to have the same type of reputation and buzz about them.

Well put. Sign me up for your chapter of Just-Not-Into-Poz-Anonymous.

I agree, I look at him and say "Skinny hips and butt, not very bulky..." I don't think he could play inside in the Pats system.

Well I suppose someone here needs to stand up for Poz. I must admit, the kid is not flashy, not in the least. But name me a Patriot Defender who is? I went to school with Poz so I know better then most what kind of "person" he is. Take away all his athletic ability, and you still have one of the greatest people I have ever met. The kid will do anything for the good of his team, he will do anything for his teammates, and he will always work harder then anyone else on the field. He came into PSU as a 2 star recruit. A no-name who no one wanted, and he quietly worked his ass off.

Listen, Poz will never have Hawk's athletic ability or 40 time, but you will not find a smarter football player or harder worker. He has played both OLB in a 4-3 and an ILB in a 3-4. If you asked him to play long snapper he would go out and do that too. Moral of the sotry is that on draft day I don't want glitz and glamour, I want a smart, ambitious kid who will put his team before his ego and you will find none better then Poz.

When Hawk played Poz in 2005 for basically the Big 10 championship in the biggest game of the year for the two of them. Everyone all year spoke of how great Hawk was, but somehow this kid named Paul kept leading the Big 10 in tackles, but never once made any highlight reals. So this game was supposed to be OSU bringing PSU back down to Earth with their better team and better Defense. Hawk had 9 tackles and Poz had 14 with 1 sack. And yet at the end of the game they interviewed Hawk and asked him about his gf Quinn's sister. And this is why Poz would be a perfect Patriot, because he only wants to play football and win for his team, he is the consummate blue collar professional who plays hard and plays right and could care less about how he is viewed by the media.

Well spoken, but put me in the Poz isn't standing out as a good fit in the Pats' 3-4. He might fit the 3-4 San Diego runs, if they stick to the style lil' Bum ran. He'd be good for Chicago or Carolina or New Orleans.

Paul Posluszny is a big time player. I am a Penn State Fan and have seen almost everyone of his games. The guy is humble, smart, and a good athlete. Just look at him at the combine, the guy is built like a tank. He won the Butkus and 2 Bednarik awards at Penn State as well as breaking the all time tackles mark at LBU. Jack Ham called him the best linebacker ever at Penn State, quite high praise from a hall of famer and Penn Stater himself.

See these videos for proof of him being a hell of a player.

Makes a ton of plays in this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YSi4PstiLgk&mode=related&search=

Heres some video of Hunt, I think he would make a great Dillon replacement:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jFt_N9MLJu8

Shaw would also be great as a late round pick up. Ran a 4.43 at the combine, and did 26 reps on the bench. Was the most versatile player on the Penn State D and played DE, MLB and OLB all very well.

He's not a pencil neck SS playing LB. He's a legitimate LB with a real football attitude. And the key to him playing for the Pats is what he has between the ears. He'll be a pro's pro.

All the talk about a "weak" senior year is BS. He lost all the talent from his DL, and was forced to change position as a Senior. Remember, Tamba Hali was drafted in the first round, and that loss is what forced PSU to change their defensive front.

All that makes him look bad in the stats, but the game tape will show something very different. And the coaches and players that know him best will vouch for him... and that counts in the Pats war room.

Personally, I think all the negative buzz is great-- that's the only way he could possibly fall to a point in the first round where we'd have a crack at him. Top character and leadership, intangibles, speed and athleticism. If he had come out last year, he would have been a top-15 pick for sure. And one year later, we're hemming and hawing about the idea of drafting him at #28?!?I think he's a steal at 24.

Can I change my mind of this guy? (again)

I still don't think he as thick as we would like in an ideal scenario but all the games I saw he was making plays and really seems to have a classic old school linebacker mentality.

He really is not that much smaller than Bruschi and has the advantage of playing both ILB and OLB in college where Bruschi was mostly a DE.

Scenario of the day
2007
- drafted in round 1
- spends the first year taking spot snaps at WILB and playing special teams
- provides emergency depth to ILB rotation
- becomes Daniel-san to Mr. Miyagi (Bruschis, Vrabel, Thomas, BB, etc.)
- hits the weights, HGH (just kidding), gains 5-10 pounds in offseason
2008
- becomes a rotational starter
- hits the weights, HGH (just kidding), gains 5 more pounds in offseason
2009
- comes in at 245-250
- starts at WILB for next 3 seasons

- contributes on special teams

Im going to agree with you. Although he is not my first choice at LB, I attend school with this guy, and I think he would be perfect for us. He wouldn't have to start immediately, and he could learn under some of the best.

Maybe you can't get excited about him because you can't spell his last name? (It's Poslu-s-zny) ;)

Speaking of PSU, I used to work with a guy who knew Kyle Brady from his Penn State days. We were young whipper snappers and he was very excited when Brady got drafted. Now Brady is an old veteran playing out the last few years of the string.

I can't believe how old I am getting....

I used to run on the boardwalk about the same time as he did several nights a week down on Long Island when he was with the Jets. Very dedicated in his runs (then). Seems like a lifetime ago, well, 3 Lombardi's anyway.

Got any classes with any of the guys? I graduated 2 years ago and had English with Hali and was his writing partner and had SpeechCom with Tony Hunt and used to be legitmately friends with Robbie Gould, the only thing was he was terrible in college. The football stories were always the greatest, tales of Lavar putting his head through drywall at a party to see what Brandon Short was doing in the bedroom with a girl, Michael Robinson whooping some hockeys kids because of our 3-9 year after they said JoePa should just die already, the good kind of whooping ala one on one. Good times...will be there in a month for Blue/White.

P.S. No PSU player had the sterling reputation that Poz has created, not Brady not Robinson, not anyone.

I had a math class with Dan Connor, he was a complete ****. I often saw M. Rob out and about, mostly at Canyon Pizza with Matthew Rice. I saw Zach Mills alot when I was a freshman too. I went to a party and met Alan Zemaitis and the other Dbs from last year. Thats about it, nothing major.

I also occasionally make cheesesteaks (I work in Penn State food services) for Derrick Williams, Deon Butler, Jordan Norwood, and Justin King, so that is pretty cool.

Very cool, King looks to be a top ten pick either this year or next. Completly shut down Ginn and Meachum. I wold love if the Pats got their hands on him in the future.

Oh yeah????

Well i threw shot put in high school against Dan Stevenson (our 2006 6th round pick, Notre Dame). so what do you think of that?

He threw it further than i did, fyi.
