My pick eugene chung

Laurence Maroney.....

It should have been... the one

the only

The best there is.... the best there was, the best there ever will be.

LeKevin "the widowmaker" Smith

Andy Katzenmoyer. At least Chung played a few years and gave us something. Katzenmoyer was a complete waste of a pick.

easily trevor matich jerry rice was still on the board

Ken Sims. as someone in another thread mentioned, he was a solid run stuffer, but you don't draft run stuffing DE with the first pick.

The Best 1st Rounder was Jim Plunkett from Stanford. He gave the fanbase hope and Helped establish the Franchise. He is never given his due by Patriots Nation. He was also the first overall pick in the draft. He also took a tremendous beating for The patriots and those of Us who were there will always appreciate Him.

That's a good one.. I had a lot of hope for AK

Better hope he doesn't read your post. Chung is a black belt 3rd degree karate master - he would king foo your butt for talking trash on him.

Chris Canty.

I remember seeing him at Training Camp seeing him get toasted by practice squad WR's.

my guess is most NFL players would kick most posters ass on here so I guess I am not the only who should watch my back.

I would agree Kenneth Sims was the worst.
And the best I would say is John Hannah he played here for many years and is in the HOF doesn't get to much better than that.

Trevor matich was a #2.

No he wasn't. He was a first rounder. Last pick of the first round in 1985 after they traded down with San Francisco (who took Jerry Rice with the Pats pick)

I'd have to put Chung or Reggie Dupard up there, Bob Cryder too. But saying Ken Sims is ridiculous. He had a borderline Pro Bowl year in 1985 when they went to the Super Bowl. And he wasn't just a run stuffer, he had like 7-8 sacks that year. He had a number of other good years too. Fryar is a ridiculous call too. Both may have been disappointments, but worst first rounders in team history? Dumb. I don't even agree with Katzenmoyer. The first half of '99, he had as good a half a year as any rookie linebacker I've seen. Then he got hurt the second half and didn't play as well. But overall, a solid rookie year. In 2000, he played pretty well for half a season under Belichick until the neck injury that forced him to retire. He was a bust, due to injury, but at the end of the first round....not the worst pick ever.

There were other guys too in the '60s who did squat. That is a bit before my time.

I agree that Sims has to be the all-time worst #1 pick. I think he was one of the first 5 picked overall, and his bio should be in Webster's Dictionary for the sporting definition of the word bust.
