Not a real big deal. Of course the players want to end BAL's season as they did to NE last year. It's not like he insulted BAL or anything.

I didn't think McCourty insulted them. But it's more than you usually hear a Pats player say.

I have no problem with this. I know it's not really the Patriot way, but Baltimore has all the motivation it needs, and whether we fan that fire or not, we have to be capable of beating them on Sunday if we want to make and succeed in the playoffs.

I wonder if Torrey Smith and Jacoby Jones will wave to McCourty on the way to the endzone, Deion Branch style ala 2003 vs the Steelers AFCCG. He should just keep up with the Patriot way and keep his stupid mouth shut.

Mediocre players should keep their mouths shut. He talks like a talented , high draft pick...oh, wait a minute, nevermind.

A mediocre player didn't say anything, McCourty did. He is a pretty good player.

at least he didn't talk about feet

Pretty innocuous trash talking. Saying he would love to beat them and end their playoff hopes on Sunday really is pretty tame. I am guessing that every player in both locker rooms have the same sentiment.

It isn't like McCourty said the Pats would beat them. Then again, it can easily be spun that way.

You do realize that Smith and Jones have six TDs COMBINED for the season. Jones scored one in week two and then again in a blow out against the Jets on November 24th. Smith has four TDs for the year and only one in the last four week.

It is certainly possible that one or both could score a TD, but it isn't like either one of these guys getting into the end zone is a common occurrence.

This is the problem. The Ravens' reputation is better than their actual production. The Ravens haven't been waiving to players much as on their way to the end zone this year because they are not getting into the end zone very much.

I know you didn't. And you're correct in your second sentence, too.

I can't remember the last time I heard an announcer say, " What a great play by McCourty ".

He's become another invisible Patriots defensive back.

If a DB isn't mentioned, it usually means he has been doing pretty well. No big plays or doesn't let his man get a lot of catches.

Personally I as a fan love it when a Pats player (Brady, McCourty, etc.) expresses dislike for an obnoxious opposing franchise (Jets, Ravens…).

You Shank Shaughnessy acolytes may feel differently.

It doesn't make a difference. There is no Karma, there is no Patriot Way at work here that would magically prevent a loss. Suggs trash-talked all over the 2012 Pats' corpse last year. The 2011 Giants the year before. Did their salvos somehow lead to their clubs' undoing? Nope.

The only way I'd object is if McCourty said something really incendiary, like he wants to bash Flacco's dull face in. But he didn't. So it's fine.

No player has generated more turnovers over the last 3 years than McCourty. Comments by announcers are generally a poor source to draw opinions from. When a db is "invisible" to an "average" fan, they are probably doing their job.

How many championships has "the Patriot way" and "do our talking on the field" brought since 2004? I actually prefer that some of our players express some emotion like this. They could use a little attitude. Especially since it's not really bad trash talking, and it's against a douchebag franchise like the Ravens.

considering the announcers have been mostly dierdorf or simms thats not suprising, they are too busy complaining about how awful the patriots are, or how terrible teh calls are when they go against the team playing the patriots, but how "oh well those are judgement calls and you have to let the refs have the final say" when they go against the patriots.

I think he's definitely a player worth keeping. He has great versatility, good range, and good leadership abilities. The question will be how close he thinks he should be getting to his brother's enormous contract.

Better to put pressure on yourself to back up your words with action than to play it safe to save face in case you lose.
