Scheffter was on radio in Philly. Listener posted this snippet at board I frequent:

Donnie Edwards - interest from Philly, GB and KC. KC has a relationship (the organization and the city), so the others have to incentivize him to go elsewhere. Adam agrees Donnie has the best chance to win a title in Philly of those three.

So thus far Pats are not frontrunners. This of course could mean nothing at all given how NE has swooped in on a few players in the past.

It also could mean that BB/Pioli are just not interested.
Just a thought.:)

I prefer not to think that. ;)

I've seen lots of SD games living in SoCal. Edwards is the real deal. A playmaker. And age shouldn't be an issue with BB. Though I suppose his size must be.

Donnie Edwards would have to play safety for the Pats.

Why is Cato June at 228# too small to be a Pats LB, but at 227# Donnie Edwards is a perfect fit?

if the Chiefs don't sign Donnie Edwards i'll be AMAZED

Cousin,
You have a great point and other than when June gets a OL hog on him when he is getting plowed backwards (and he does make plays still), he is a player in the Donnie Edwards mold and younger. Wouldn't mind seeing him but he ain't cheap cousin. I would expect that Cato June is looking for the big bucks and is 27 and Edwards is 33. June has a SB ring so now it's all about "Show me the money". Edwards still needs to collect jewelery so going to K.C.
doesn't get him to the SB, GB? Not for a few years and Philly? perhaps his best shot other than the Pats if they are indeed showing interest.

A much better fit for the Pats would be this guy and he is still only 28. In last evenings KFFL it said that Bob Beers, the NE beat writer of Metro West for the Pats in that rag, has said the Pats have interest in former Ravens and Falcons MLB Ed Hartwell. Three years ago he was considered one of the elite young MLBs in the NFL and got a big FA contract in Atlanta. He was subsequently hurt and banged up the last few years but is on the mend. Atlanta cut him for CAP space. He is like 6'1" and at least 245. He started and played with A. Thomas and Ray Lewis in that super Ravens defense a few years ago. Back in NE with Thomas and Bruschi (and Colvin and Vrabel) this could be the best LB core the Pats have ever had, health pending with Harwell of course. I think he costs less than Edwards and June and has a better fit, plus he makes the LB core younger. This guy has potential ALL-Pro stuff and was obviously overshadowed by Ray Lewis.

Donnie Edwards does not fit our system. The Chargers play a much different 3-4 defense than we do. In the Chargers' system, Edwards is not asked to take on blocks from guards nearly as much as the Pats' ILBs do. That is why a smaller guy Edwards can flourish in a Chargers' system and probably wouldn't in ours.

Edwards may or may not be the real deal. He just ain't right for our system. I'd rather take a shot on Ed Hartwell.

I agree that neither is a great fit for our defense. I don't think at his age and speed that Edwards can play safety. June might be able to though. He played safety in college.

I love Donnie Edwards, and wanted the Pats to nab him in a trade last offseason when he was arguing with AJ Smith about his last year in SD. Many pundits have said we were one defensive player away from going to the SB in that 4th qtr in Indy. In my mind, Edwards was that guy. But we just got a younger, bigger, better version of him in A-Day-Lus.

We need the run stuffing plug in the middle now. Edgerton Hartwell who is 28 and will come much cheaper than two years ago should be the emphatic target. Many here have said "But he's been hurt alot the past two years and missed 8 games last year". Correct, but he was a starter the last 6 of last year, so he should be fine now.

Edwards is a great player, but he would be an older, smaller, less versatile version of the stud we picked up last week.

Hartwell ,might be a better suit for us...

Why would the Patriots not be interested in an old, undersized, and overrated linebacker?

Well I got his Agents e-mail address. It's National Sports Agenct. Hobbs is also their client.
His agent is Harold C. Lewis.

[email protected]

Their phone number is

Lets e-mail them and see if we can get him while the Godfather and SP are playing around in FLA! If we sign him we save the Krafts a whole lot of time and effort.

Here is their "sales" blurb on Ed Hartwell.

Hartwell has had some pretty serious injuries, the kind that tend to linger. He's only played in 13 games in the past two seasons.

He might be worth taking a flyer on, but I wouldn't expect a significant contribution from him.

Well, we seem to have a consensus here. Let's give BB the go-ahead to sign Hartwell.

I gave them the go-ahead two years ago
... but they couldn't close the deal then.

Maybe now?
