Patriots Vince Wilfork Planning a Return For 2014

Good luck, big man. I like his determination and sincerely hope he does it. But Vince is a very big guy and on the wrong side of 30. His odds of coming back from an injury that devastating at the position he plays (which requires a lot of strain on his legs) and still being what he was before are pretty remote.

Great to hear Vince but I hope you are not expecting $10Mill and you and Bianca should lay off T-bone steaks for a while.

Vince looked like he added a few extra lbs when they showed him on the sideline on Sunday. Like 60 lbs.

Im sure he is already expecting the Pats to come to him to re work his deal. Way to big of a cap hit in the final year of his contract for a player his age coming of this type of injury. I see the Pats offering a new deal with a lot of incentives in it.

On a slightly side note, did anyone else notice how much bigger Vince seemed when they showed him on the sidelines against the Phins? Looks like the lack of conditioning is showing.

It's definitely lack of conditioning. The guy blew his Achilles so cardiovascular workouts weren't an option. Couple that with the fact that the man likes to eat and you have a grounded blimp on the New England sideline. :D

Seems like Vince hasn't missed a meal in quite some time.:eat1::popcorn:

I love Vince but he needs to lose some belly, I have this opinion even before the injury, he's not only a strong man, he has the skills and football IQ, losing some weight would not affect his efficiency.

As much as I enjoy and indulge in the easy sport of making fun of Vince & eating, the good news is that he conditions himself off season by swimming, a perfect exercise to build back cardio endurance, manage weight and promote minimal stress healing on the achilles. Vince is an intelligent, determined individual well aware that how he responds to this injury has a profound effect on his family's welfare in the most positive sense. I'm in the camp that he heals fully and returns to form. Note that a much older equally heavy NT helped us win our EDIT (next to) last SB trophy.

Not only him, but Ted Washington the year before contributed greatly, and he was coming off a fractured leg/torn tendon that held him to 2 games the year before. It's a long road for Vince, but this isn't an automatic death sentence for his career.

I still think that he'll be a very good DT. But I don't see how he can be as dominant as he was before (when he was basically the best NT in the NFL, period) considering all the factors I listed.

Like I said, it'll be a long road, just not going to rule him out just yet.

It's interesting though that our two most questionable injuries going forward (Vince due to age/size and Gronk due to a slew of recent surgeries), both would require attention in the offseason even WITHOUT those injuries. If Vince wasn't injured, we'd still be in the market for a DT due to he and Kelly's age. At TE, we're in desperate need of depth and talent to go beside Gronk, so planning for a possible early season absence is already in the plans. We don't need to use resources to backup those players that we weren't already going to use in all likelihood.

Long as he slims down before camp I'm not worried. Would be a shame to never seen Vince back in a patriots uniform. Hope to see him and Kelly for the Thursday night opener in Foxborough next season.

Don't think they will pay 8.6M while he recovers. Probably vet min plus incentives. Hopefully he'll understand. Business is business. Grounded blimp, that's funny.

That Suggs guy came back from an achilles, or most of the way back. So there's that.

If Vince doesn't return to form, were not going to pay 10 million for an average DT, especially since we can save 7.5 million from cutting him.

Vince either returns to All-Pro status or he's gone. I doubt he'd randomly take a pay cut and there is no need for a 33 year old DT who's lost his game.

I noticed the same. In a way I'm almost jealous. It must be nice to be so fat that you don't care if your fat gets fatter.

I just hope that alien species in "To Serve Man" doesn't intercept that TV broadcast

I think I'm going to get that fat after my children have children. Have to wait until I get older though. Can't take a chance of getting that fat then getting divorced and having to go back out on the market. But when I have grandchildren, chances are I'll be too old to care anyway so why not get morbidly obese?

Vince was never exactly ripped. LOL

I'm sure he'll be back... whether he can be effective again is another question.

But don't bet against him... remember, he's got a motor that won't quit. :D

My advice then is to get divorced so your wife isn't constantly *****ing at you that you're not as slim as the Tom Brady of the day
