I don't know if he'll be an all pro, but I'm right there with you on taking him at No. 28.
I really like this player. In fact, in the PFW draft guide he is listed as a good fit for the Patriots.
it would be great if Willis could drop below #15 and we found a team to trade 24 & 28 for Willis and a mid 2nd. Then take Gonzales with the mid sedond rounder.:rocker:
If we sign another FA WR, and it looks like we're trying, there isn't room for a draftee. We typically had 5 last year - Caldwell, Gaffney, Welker, Jackson, new guy. That's 5 and doesn't even include Troy Brown who may or may not retire. Even if Jackson is PUPed, most think he's not out for the year.

I don't like the line of thinking of not drafting/signing guys because there isn't room. There's ALWAYS room. If somebody comes along who's better than Jabbar Gaffney, Chad Jackson, or Reche Caldwell, then they take their jobs.
There's a chance we could keep 6, with Gaffney and Caldwell both UFA at the end of the year. But you have to look at it as a factor. We aren't taking a TE now with Watson, Thomas, Brady. It makes no sense to not draft/sign a WR because there's no room, and potentially ignoring guys that might be an improvement. That goes for every position. I'd like to have 90 guys in training camp competing for 61 spots. I don't care if the other 29 guys go to the Jets. I hope they all do, we'll know that we're the better team.
Plus, it allows us to trade guys such as Matt Cassell (7th round pick) or Wesley Britt (free agent signing) and get future draft picks. Cashing in on investments.

Fair points. It is all about getting better.....
The hard part is having a choice of Gonzalez and a number of defensive players, i.e., Spencer or Harris or Revis.
Oh, and as you might have surmised by my avatar, a sure way to get me to read a thread is to title it "gonzo".
I think Olsen is every bit the prospect those two are. And what would we do with Olsen ? Keep 4 TE ? Cut Thomas or K. Brady ? No. And, to a lesser extent the situation is the same at WR depending on Troy's decision, Jackson's injury and and FA signings that happen.I agree, but I think that's because of a weak TE class more than anything. If a Daniel Graham or Jason Witten were in the draft, it wouldn't suprise me at all.

We aren't going to use a #1 pick on a position where it would result in cutting a good player. Argue the theory all you want, it's not happening.I guess your point is that we shouldn't draft a TE early because we have good guys there. My point is we should draft whomever the best player available is, regardless of position (QB excepted).

It's about the difference in quality between what you draft and who he replaces. A WR would replace a quality player - Caldwell, Gaffney, Jackson, Welker, FA WR (who we appear to be going after). Who are you going to cut or are you keeping 6.I don't like the line of thinking of not drafting/signing guys because there isn't room.
