That is one crazy ass dude. Talk about the money he'll be reeling in after getting drafted by two different teams;)

As far as the Reggie Nelson pick. PLEASE! NO! LET REGGIE GO SMOEWHERE ELSE. Although, I must say it is alot better than yahoo sports mock where they have us taking the TE Olson with our first pick. :bricks:

I don't believe that the Browns will draft Peterson. They need OL or DL and though Savage is the GM, I think that Crennel has a lot more input.

Also, I don't think that the Lions will take Thomas. Not with the rumors of them trading down.

I think its a huge stretch that David Harris goes to the Rams at 20.

The Nelson pick to the Pats is good, but I think the Siler pick isn't. I don't believe that Siler fits the Pats mold.

I believe that there is much better value in Stewart Bradley or Zak DeOssie later in the draft.

Thanks. I meant to put in Spencer, and accidently wrote Carricker twice.

Just curious as to why you don't like Nelson. IMO, with the addition of Thomas, the two weaknesses left in this D are depth at ILB and playmaking at FS. I like Hawkins, but he just isn't a ball hawk. Nelson is solid in supporting the run, but is at his best making plays on the ball. I think we could really use that. I know he isn't the brightest guy, but if he would come with the recommendation of Urban Meyer, I think he's a distinct possibility. I don't think he lasts this long come April anyways.

I'm not sure about Siler. I actually like him as a player and think he fits the system, I just don't see it happening. I hope so though, he's one of about my 5 choices that I think really fit for our system.

In watching Nelson play, heck even watch his highlights, he is a very poor tackler. He hits pretty solid, and lowers his shoulder alot, but hits like that are not going to do him any good in the nfl. He will get run over and run over again and again and again. I would much rather have Michael Griffin (who can play SS, FS, and CB or Brandon Meriweather.
As far as recommendations from Urban Meyer. No thanx. It's these college coaches jobs to get their players drafted. Why would we listen to any of them....Charlie included?

I gurantee if Laron landry even sniffs falling past the top 12 the Pats will move up to get him if possible. That being said i wouldnt be shocked if he went top 10.

You seem to be the only person who says that Nelson is a poor tackler. I just checked 3 different draft sites (NFLDraftscout.com, NFLDraftcountdown.com, and Condraft.com) and while they said that he wasn't a great tackler, they did not say he was a POOR tackler.

Now, one thing that has me stepping back from him and I admit that I missed this earlier, is that they say that he has problems learning complicated play-books. That would be a major red flag for the Pats.

Now, about your comments regarding Urban Meyer and Charlie Weis. You're wrong. It is NOT their job to get their players drafted. I don't know where you get that absurd idea, but its wrong. Their JOB is to win football games and to get high recruits so they have a chance at a national championship.

On Michael Griffin, those same 3 sites have issues with him and his run-stopping ability. That is a major red flag against someone who is looking to be a strong safety in the NFL.

I think you sort of have a point, but I think you are underestimating BB's trust in his buddies. We took a bunch of LSU guys when Saban was there, we have taken a steady state of Fresno St players, and recently Florida and Notre Dame players. Obviously BB knows he cannot trust every college coach, as most will tell him whatever he wants to hear. That's why he'll usually defer mostly to the coaches who he trusts won't lie to him, as I think he relies on the coaches' opinion for insight into a player's character and work ethic. Expect a bunch of Florida/ND players (maybe not early, but definitely in the late rounds and as UDFA's), and a ton of Alabama players in the near future.

As for Nelson, that's a big strike for me, if that's true. This defense crumbles when we start giving up big plays (obviously any D does, but since we are more willing to allow the short gain, big plays are even worse).

I like your draft board overall, though I think Harris and Silre are both going too high. I also like your drafting strategy for the Patriots, though I think that Siler is a reach at 28. I think that the Pats would trade down at 28 because there is some great value in the 2nd round. Because you had trades available, that was something I expected to see. Otherwise, nicely done.

The Pats drafted a TOTAL of 3 LSU guys during BB's tenure while Saban was at LSU. Jarvis Green, Marquise Hill and Rohan Davey. BB signed Eric Alexander and Randall Gay. Now, there were 14 draft picks that Saban could have had some influence on while Saban was coaching in college. Those 13 players are Tom Brady (Michigan), Matt Light (Purdue), TJ Turner (Michigan St.), Greg Robinson-Randall (Michigan St.), David Nugent (Purdue), Brock Williams (Notre Dame), Jabari Holloway (Notre Dame), David Givens (Notre Dame), Jarvis Green (LSU), Rohan Davey (LSU), Ben Watson (Georgia), Marquise Hill (LSU), Guss Scott (Florida) and Cedric Cobbs (Arkansas). However, we all know that it was **** Rehbein who was the one who brought Brady to the forefront for the Pats. Out of the 13 players remaining, only Ben Watson, Matt Light, and Jarvis Green have been truly successful in the NFL. That is NOT a good ratio.

Honestly, I have come to believe that Saban's player evaluation for the NFL is less than good. Honestly, I think that there are people on Patsfans.com who are better evalutors of talent for the NFL than Saban has shown.

Watch any game film you can get on the guy. He doesnt wrap up the ball carrier. And, if he is ever hit head on, most of the time, he gets driven back. So, go ahead and let me be the only one saying it. That should mean i'll be the only one saying I told you so.

As far as Michael Griffins run stopping ability. I have read the same thing, and everytime I dont understand how any of them come to that conclusion. I will agree that he cant be an eigth man in the box type of safety. But, he has good recognition skills, and is quick enough to get down field and make the tackle. The guy has no problem making tackles. Would he have over
120+ for two straight yrs. if he did? I dont think so. He is a solid, drive through the ball carrier type of tackler. He just seems like a better fit for us IMO. SS,FS,CB. Why people are pegging him strictly as a SS makes no sense. In college he played all three positions and was a mad man on ST. I love that versatility and we all know BB does too. Im not saying that we are going to draft him, just saying that aside from Landry, thats the safety I would like to see us pick in the first.
Also, I would just like to add that Nelson is a drag down tackler, and I hate that ****. Thats my problem with him.

Oh, and on the subject of coaches getting their players drafted. You have got to be absolutely naive to think coaches dont work to get their players drafted. You dont think thats not used as leverage in the recruiting process for these clubs? It is their job win games, but also their job to help their guys get paychecks wherever they can. That is the tipping scale from one program to another. I just think that BB should only ask them character ?'s and maybe work ethic ?'s, and not forget that's why we have scouts, and pay them what we do.

Perhaps my only claim to fame on Patriot message boards will be as the poster who coined the phrase -- "The Saban Connection".

From their days together with the Browns, right on through Saban's time at Michigan St and LSU, there's remained a solid relationship between BB and Saban. When it's easy to get a truthful evaluation of a draft prospect from BB's numerous high school and college connections, with Saban, there's been a far greater advantage throughout the years. As Belichick's former DC at Cleveland, Saban knows the kind of player who can play in the Pats D. For example, at LSU, Jarvis Green was highly recommended by Saban. Saban told BB that Green reminded him of Anthony Pleasant, a player he coached at Cleveland, who of course later played with the Pats. This type of recommendation would be invaluable to someone like BB, who seeks players that fit the Pats system. Blue Gay is another Saban recommendation, who if not for injuries, would probably excel in the Pats defense.

Of course, college coaches work to get their players drafted -- all in the name of recruiting. But they don't all lie. Belichick has 'established relationships' throughout the coaching ranks. Think a college coach will distort the truth and risk severing a relationship? Nope.

Now for those prospects where BB has zero coaching connections, the Pats interview process becomes much more important. As you've stated, some college coaches may tell a fib here or there just to get their player drafted. But the Pats are well prepared for such scenarios -- bank on it.

I just think that BB should only ask them character ?'s and maybe work ethic ?'s, and not forget that's why we have scouts, and pay them what we do.
The scouts find the football players, the coaches find the one's who can play for the Pats. :)

Not saying that it's working, just that the trend definitely exists.

I want Griffin more than Nelson. Griffin is a playmaker, who plays 90 MPH. I also disagree with him being a poor tackler, based on his numbers alone. I ahve seen his highlights, and I take them with a grain of salt because they are highlights, but he is Bob Sanders. I would love Bob Sanders in our defense.

So setting a NFL record for 7 consecutive playoff games with a TD reception doesn't qualify you as a successful NFLer?

Besides that, I do think you are on to something.
