So, ignore draft needs, ignore logic and philosophy, ignore big schools and ideal lengths, sizes and 3 cone times. Which player(s) most excites you as future Patriot for the forthcoming draft?

Now, I love Brandon Scherff, Darqueze Dennard, Kyle Fuller, Eric Ebron (maybe) and Justin Gilbert but I think if I could have one player in this draft, I'd wish for Aaron Donald. Want to see why?

I think he could be faster than Carl Lewis off the blocks and then often runs around like an OLB. He's probably a horrible fit but I don't care.

For me there are 4 guys I loved at the start of the process and I'm gonna stick with them.

Ra'Shede Hageman
Louis Nix III
CJ Mosley
Trey Millard

He is really fast but at 6 feet I can't see Bill taking him. He'll probably end up on the Giants and drive us nuts.

Ra'Shede Hageman

I wonder if the Pats would package a first and third to move up and get him if he makes it into the 20's. Of the players with any chance to make it to the Pats first pick he's the one I like.

Well I love a lot of prospects but the most exciting prospects IMO are Mason, Watkins, Thomas, Amaro, Barr, Dennard, and Gilbert. Out of all of these guys BB should have interest in them all besides Barr whether it's realistic or not. I personally would love Dennard with his cousin in our secondary, no development needed, he's NFL ready

One more I've thought of is Brandin Cooks. If I had to take on receiver, I'd probably want Landry but Cooks is very exciting to watch.

My guy this year is Khalil Mack from Buffalo but his stock has risen too high for the Pats range sadly.

Eric Ebron, Chris Borland, Lamarcus Joyner, Darqueze Dennard and Jason Verrett. If somehow we can come out of the first 2 rounds with a combination of these guys then I'm overjoyed.

I'd love too see Amaro and Dennard come out of the first two rounds, make it happen Bill

That might require two first rounders unfortunately. I'd say sign a couple of FA O linemen and go Ebron-Fuller-Fiedorowicz-Shamar Stephen (or Carrethers).

You're right unfortunately. For the O-line we may only need a G, don't forget we have Cave on PS, who's very versatile and skilled. For early TEs I'd target Amaro and ASJ over Ebron personally. Then for early CBs I'd attempt to target Dennard (most NFL ready), Gilbert, and or Roby early or a UofF CB later on. I'm also starting to jump on the Fiedorowicz bandwagon but don't understand why he is ranked so low

He's not all that explosive and probably won't start anywhere. I can actually see Purifoy being a BB pick - he has the athletic upside BB will like and he'll be a very good special teams player.

The way I see the CB class in terms of Patriot fits is this:

Dennard: almost perfect in terms of his physicality and press man skills but his potential relatively poor athleticism might put off BB.

Gilbert: if you are looking for someone to take away another teams top receiver, for me, Gilbert is the best bet.

Roby: very good all rounder in terms of scheme fit and athleticism. Add in the school and he ticks a lot of boxes.

Fuller: if we didn't have Arrington signed up long-term, then Fuller should probably book his flight to Boston. But we do and I'm not so sure about Fuller on the outside. Really like him though.

Ekpre/Verrett - not sure about their size and thus how well they fit.

Purifoy- see above. Might not be the best corner but might be the best BB fit.

Roberson/Desir etc - haven't seen enough.

Exum-Dark horse? Good size and also plays safety so offers legit versatility.

How about EJ Gaines?
SEC experience. Good in run support. And showed he can shutdown receivers, did an amazing job with Evans.

Love Clowney, Bridgewater, Mack, ASJ, Mathews, Dennard. I want to like Barr, but I just can't.

I'm with you on Barr. I think I'd rather have Van Noy.

My answer to the thread title: Clowney :( Though Ealy is an interesting one.

Guys I like right now high.

JaDeveon Clowney - I don't care about his "motor." Offensive players see this guy in their sleep.

Ra'Shede Hageman - Looks like the next elite DT/DE in the mold of Seymour or Campbell.

Louis Nix III - With our front at a crossroads of sorts, a guy who can stuff the run as a 0-tech through 5-tech sounds fantastic.

Randy Gregory - Oozes rush ability. Has that rare combo of strength and agility that you need to be a force off the edge.

Aaron Lynch - Just needs to get his head out of his ***

Kelcy Quarles - Baby giraffe of a defensive tackle. Real NFL-caliber burst, and still has room to fill out his frame.

Easley, Donald, and Uko look interesting but don't possess the 3-down skillsets of the above players to me. Don't pay much attention to some other positions at this stage in the year.
