No tailgating at the Super Bowl

This is the sort of thing that really pisses me off about the NFL. The biggest football event of the year and they do everything they can to squeeze out regular fans. I don't even mean the price of the tickets; I recognize that the laws of supply and demand govern how much the tickets will cost and I have no problem with that. But why shouldn't people be allowed to go to the game and do all the things they would do when going to any other game?

I have only been to one Super Bowl, but they didn't allow tailgating there either. Granted it was February of 2002 and you have to pass a check point with armed force members carrying M16s.

I think the no tailgating rule is standard for Super Bowls. Usually there are a lot of NFL sponsored events right outside the stadium that you can go to get food and drinks. I know the year I went it was a Hootie and the Blowfish concert.

you should be able to tailgate at the Super Bowl. But atleast there is tailgating at my house and the good part is I dont have to pay 10,000 on a tickets and 100 for parking

Normally I would disagree, but I've seen a game in the old Giants stadium. There will be packs of local Jets/Giants fans roaming the parking lot looking for trouble. Not allowing tail gaiting is actually a wise move in this particular case.

Unless the Patriots or the Saints are playing I won't even bother to watch the Superbowl. Pretty uninteresting to me if New England isn't in it, and I'd root for the Saints then, if they managed to get in. Otherwise, I'll have a nice dinner and catch a movie.

To be honest, I can't imagine ever spending the money it would take to attend a Superbowl. It's just out of hand, and with all the restrictions, why bother? I can sit in the comfort of my home, with my flat screen and Home Theater System and be far more comfortable. Heck, for the cost of a ticket, transportation, food, lodging and etc, I could BUILD a new addition to the house and install a new flat screen, HTS, etc. :rocker:

I'd love to be able to say I watched the Patriots play in a Superbowl while in the stadium, but I honestly can't justify that sort of expense.

Any stadium that doesn't have appropriately sized parking to accommodate tailgating is asking for fans to not show up.

Charging $51 to ride a ******* bus to and from some drop-off point is highway robbery.

Charging $50 to ride the Train is equally robbery.

Helps to read the article. No. There won't be "packs of Jets/Giants fans roaming the parking lot looking for trouble". Do you know why? Because you aren't allowed to WALK in. Nor are you allowed past security without a ticket or parking pass.

yeah, I can think of one NFL franchise's fans that would do EXACTLY that. Gate D sexual assaults. Roving assaults on anyone not dressed in green, in this case , any fans of the two teams in the Super Bowl. Yeah, I definitely believe THESE morons would do exactly that...

I guess the axiom would be "Never Get Between A Pack Of Braindead Morons And Their Stadium"...hell, they'd probably pay THREE thousand a seat to act like green mongos.

This has been brought up at our forums. We have tailgated to every NFL game at home or away, and we are not going to change. Not that we have a chance to make the show again, but if we do, we are going to do a well choreographed effort to tailgate in the same area and at the same time.
Maybe work with the opposing teams fans to do the same.

That way is would be more embarrasing for the NFL to stop all of us. We are not giving up our tailgate, good food, and drinking before the game.
Lord knows in that weather we need to be well fed and thoroughly drinking/happy to watch the team, it wont be pretty.

They have 28,000 parking spots at Met Life that they are cutting down to 13,000. That is insane to cut 50+% away.

Not allowing people to walk from area hotels is insane(there are 5 hotels I know with in a mile walk and in crossing highways)

Making people pay $50 to use public transit from ny to nj that normally cost $15 dollars RT is insane

Or making people pay $51 dollars to get a bus ride to game.

This is all about NJ making millions of dollars of off fans

Some perspective: I've been to four Super Bowls and saw no tailgating at any of them. It's primarily a security thing -- clearing many thousands of cars to park in direct vicinity of the stadium would be nearly impossible (and they'd have to do it).

Secondly, you really wouldn't WANT to tailgate at the Super Bowl anyway. Getting into the stadium with a Super Bowl ticket is an involved process of security and validation checkpoints, which means waiting in line for long periods. Pregame activities -- exhibits, activities, entertainment, food, etc. -- inside the stadium gates begin hours before kickoff. Those are things you wouldn't want to miss in favor of grilling burgers outside. It's a completely different experience than a regular-season game or even a playoff game. It's the biggest annual one-day sporting event on the planet.

I entered the stadium area each time when the gates opened about four hours before kickoff and believe me, there was plenty to see and do -- it's like the Disney World of pro football. You couldn't pay me to tailgate at the Super Bowl.

yeah, just have to disagree with this time tuna. I want a tailgate, its always been a neutral ground for fans to talk. Its very cool to walk your sons and wife to the opposing fans tent, eat their food and talk for a bit. Its part of the game. Kind of an introduction. Im guessing you were not at our 44 SB tailgate.
