Tom Brady does not have to change the jeresy name

I'm sure they finally realized that fans can tell the difference. I don't think anyone is going to think Tom gained 50 pounds, changed his number and became a TE.

I know I'll sleep a little sounder knowing that.

so we don't need to go by T.Brady shirts?

Just think Troy Brown had the T.Brown jersey when we had Gilbert (or was it Wilbert) Brown. I'm pretty sure fans could tell the difference.

That means neither will Adalius "not Dave" Thomas.

I was going to suggest that Tom's jersey just say, "God". :D

Is anybody else now tempted to get a Kyle Brady jersey just to mess with people?

Brady changing his Jersey?!?

Now that we have an additional Brady on the team...isn't Tom's jersey going to be "T. Brady" on the back now?

I think that's definetly going to be a tell-tale sign of how old our jerseys are....

what the hell are you talking about " a tell-tale sign of how old our jerseys are"

I think he means the jerseys that fans wear. If they did make him wear "T Brady", we'd recognize "Brady" jerseys as pre-2007.

I am unable to find this thread, but I would be very interested in reading the opinions of people that think he doesn't have to. IIRC, naming conventions (and numbers) follow very precise rules in the NFL and it isn't exactly an optional thing. I certainly may be wrong on this one (not exactly something I follow too closely) but I can't think of any instances where a player on a team with a teammate of the same last name didn't have at least the initial.

Re: Brady changing his Jersey?!?

I think the NFL has changed the rules and individual players now decide what to do in these situations. I've heard both players are just going to have 'Brady' on their back.

Re: Brady changing his Jersey?!?

This is kind of related.

I've seen several teams, namely the Broncos and Ravens (I think) whose players sometimes have their full names on the jerseys. I was wondering if every player can do this, or does it have to be part of the team's decision regarding uniforms? Anyone have some links to the rulebook/ articles about the changes?

I know Andra and Andre Davis had their full names on their backs when they were both playing for the Browns. Obviously "A. Davis" would not have been specific enough. There was also Jim and Jack Youngblood from the Rams about 30 years ago...

I didn't know the NFL changed the rules, but I can't imagine it matters much...

So, say, if Tom lines up at an end position would he have to be declared eligible for a pass? :p

We wouldnt want the refs (or announcers) to get the QB and the TE mixed up,would we?
