3. Bill Belichick, New England Patriots

The Patriots have started unheralded Joe Vellano and Chris Jones at defensive tackle for most of the season after injuries decimated the position. The receiver group had an almost complete overhaul, and played without Rob Gronkowski, Shane Vereen and Danny Amendola for most of the season.

New England lost their defensive leader Jerod Mayo for the season early and suffered a slew of injuries in the secondary. Tom Brady had the worst half-season of his career. Add it all up ... and the Patriots are still 9-3 and in position to be the No. 2 seed in the AFC, just like normal.

The order is probably off, but that looks like a good top 5 to me.

Pete Carroll? You mean the guy who half his starting defense has been busted for PEDs? Get your house in order, Petey.

Depending on how the season finishes out, Chip Kelly seems like a very good candidate to me.

Pete Carroll #1?!? Who is doing the voting? Pharmaceutical Weekly magazine?

Unless their current three game losing streak doesn't continue, Andy Reid should be the odds on favorite. The Chiefs went from last place to potentially having the #1 seed in the AFC (although that doesn't seem likely at this point).

Yeah, Pete Carroll with his stupid gum chewing, rah rah speeches, and roided up defense doesn't impress me. I'd still give it to Reid unless they go like 10-6. Some have mentioned Belichick, and while I guess you could just give it to him every year, he's gotten his due in the past, winning three times (I think? 2003, 2007, 2010).

Carroll is this year's Brad Childress. The guy is a dunce, but he has the most stacked team in the NFL, top to bottom, to work with. The result is the best record in the NFL. It also doesn't hurt that they just humiliated the Saints on national television and held them to lows offensively that they laregely haven't seen since 2005.

Agreed.

Interesting that there are two pairs of coaches where one replaced the other in a job.

I think Coach of the year should be BB and MVP should be Brady but at the very least they should be getting much more publicity for it then they have been.

Go ahead and IR 3 of the best players on any other teams defense and keep in mind they will still have other injuries to key starters to deal with. Now go ahead and knock off the best offensive weapon for the half the year and put the next best weapon behind bars. But dont stop there because you also need to give the top offseason accuisition a serious injury that will last all year and replace all other receivers but one journeymen with rookies.

IMO there is only one player in the league who even deserves a mention for MVP and that is Manning because his stats are so ridiculous and he has had to deal with playing without his HC for a few weeks.

I would give:

The MVP to either Brady or Manning with Brady winning if Manning falls short of 50 and Manning winning if he breaks the record.

Coach of the year should go to BB bar none.

But Executive of the year should probably go to Seattle as they appear to be the most stacked team. I beleive the GM is John Schnieder but I am not sure the exact pecking order and if he or Pete are the top Personell man.

On a side note to the MVP discussion I think this year should fully prove why QBs are way more deserving of this award than any other. Just take a look at how good JJ Watt is playing and how little it is making a difference to his teams success. He is playing football as good as any player regardless of position this year but when a QB plays that good I give a personal guarentee you will never lose as many games as the Texans have.

the Cleaner dodged possible jailtime at SoCal by bringing his roids and rage program to Seattle and now heads up the most disrespectful football team in NFL history. Yeah, no wonder he's Goodell's Pet Of The Year.

They have virtually no chance at the #1 seed.
For that to happen they would have to win out and the team that just beat them twice would have to lose 2 of 4 to teams with losing records.
Chiefs are a sinking ship that will limped into their one and done post season.
If the season was 10 weeks long, their schedule makers would have been Coach of the Year.

Pete liked Russell Wilson when everyone else didn't until the consensus round 5.

Pete elected to start 3rd round rookie Wilson after signing a QB to 8+ million a year.

Pete liked what he saw from Richard Sherman when playing vs. him at USC and drafted him.

Man is no dunce.

I'm with you re: Belichick, but I don't see how anyone can make a real case for Brady as MVP.

this might be BB's best year coaching since Bledsoe went down

Pete is skating on the edge of a razor blade.....he is very, very close to losing control of that team and having that whole house of cards come crashing down

wouldn't surprise me to see the Hawks win the superbowl, now would an epic crash and burn in the playoffs surprise me.....

Sure he is. He's proven it time and again. Just because he has an eye for good quarterback play doesn't mean he's a good head coach, or coach of the year. He's had a hand in building a solid team, along with the Seattle front office. If he's the coach of the year, they should win the Super Bowl without question.

I think Schneider has a lot more to do with the Seahawks' success than Carroll. Put Mike Tice in charge and you still have a playoff/Super Bowl team, IMO.

Hmmm, maybe. I just feel that Carroll has played a big role in turning a bad football team (2008-2009) into a powerhouse with his draft moves. Maybe Schneider was the one responsible for the likes of Thomas, trading for Lynch, Chancellor, etc, but Pete is the one responsible for the Seahawks having a top 10 QB and the best CB in the league.

On the field, Carroll does have brain farts though. (His prevent defense at end of last year's divisional game) But I think his goofy rah-rah attitude works in Seattle, considering the youth of the team.
