Rob Rang has the Pats taking Revis at 24 and Blalock at 28.

Has the top of the draft going Russell, Quinn, Pederson, C. Johnson, Thomas.

I just can't see the Browns passing up on Gaines Adams. Not for Adrian Peterson. Don't care how good he is.

I don't see Patrick Willis and Leon Hall going in the top 12.

I like the players, Revis and Blalock. I don't see a fit for Blalock, though. He's not an upgrade at tackle - guard seems to be his projected position. We don't need an upgrade at LG. If we wanted to upgrade Neal, we wouldn't have resigned him last year. If we still wanted to upgrade Neal, we'd move Kaczur or O'Callahan inside.

Revis is one of a very few who I think the Pats would rate as a top 20 prospect. He'd be an easy pick unless more than one of their targets slides (like Carriker, etc.).

#28 -- if we keep it, could be just about anybody at several positions. IMO, the value from #24 - 32 is fairly equal. And we may even select a consensus-ranked early R2 prospect at #28 simply because he fits. By not having the #60 any longer means we really want to hit correctly on that #28 pick. Obviously, we'd like to have two future starters from #24 and #28, who require less developmental time. It's a hit or miss from R3 on...

what's the web site?

I like the Revis pick but not so enthused about Blalock. Blalock would have to be a potential franchise LT to spend a 1st round pick on an offensive lineman and I just doubt he projects to be that good.

It's a pay site, though, which is probably why DaBruinz only mentioned a few things.

In addition to Revis, he had Houston going at #27 - if he'd made it to #28 I think I'd have doubled down on CB.

I'd like a first round of Revis and Gonzo, but I think after Revis has his Pro-Day, he'll go earlier than 24. As Rang says, he's slipped due to not running at the combine.

I'm right there with you on getting Revis and Gonzo in the first round. Curran metioned Gonzalez as good fit for the Pats last night on NEST.

He's the best fit, bar none (well, maybe Calvin). His short area quickness and change of direction are unparallelled. I watch quite a bit of OSU this season and thought he was head and shoulders above Ginn. Combine confirmed what I saw on the field.

I would seriously try to get him in the first, at #24 if there's nobody of better value. This guy could have a Hines Ward career for us.

I'm not convinced that Revis and Gonzalez are the best options.

I think the BEST option is for the Pats to trade down from either their 24th or 28th pick into the 2nd round.

I think that trading down and getting someone like Bradley or DeOssie is much more important than Gonzalez.

daBruinz,

Bingo! You got Bingo.

Most years there are no ILBs that have size, and run in the 4.5 Those that do, either don't have a LBs mentality, or are top 15 picks, that the Pats can't get.

This year there are a couple that might be available. The Pats need them too. Yet the posters seem to want to draft a safety when the only opening that they have in the secondary might be for a size SS such as like Piscitelli, Rouse or Wendling who are all third rounders. Alternatively, they want to take a CB, no better ort worse then the ones available by they bushel, year in and year out.

It makes no sense. None at all...

Well sure. I didn't realize we were playing the trade game. I'd love to trade both first rounders and get four picks in the 35-50 range. Then I'd hopefully get Gonzalez, Josh Wilson, David Harris, and Justin Harrell.

Three ILB's in this draft that everyone thinks could fit in well with the Pats system. Willis, Harris and DeOssie. However I doubt any of the 3 is capable of starting next year for us. With Don Davis retiring that leaves a ST role open for one of the 3 listed above to wrestle with Alexander and Mayes, while learning the complexity of the position as it relates to signal calling, responsibilities and personnel alignments.

Another ILB that I think could work in our system and play ST while learning is Warren of Texas A&M.

Try as I might, I cannot see Willis excelling in a 3-4. And as high as he'll be drafted, I don't want to spend that pick on a maybe. One of my favorite players in the draft, but it would appear a bad fit.

I agree that nobody is coming in to start. I think Harris could be an immediate viable backup though.

I would add Bradley SILB and Pos WILB to the small list of rookie who could provide some capable spot duty as a backup and maybe, maybe Desmond Bishop for 1-2 downs.

Any of the above including Willis would be a step in the right direction but should be behind a yet to be indentified veteran to split starting snaps with Vrabel and Bruschi and ILB.

ILB Rotation - Bruschi, TBD Veteran, Vrabel, Rookie (from list above), Alexander, BB's son, Mays, BB's newspaper boy, Larry Izzo.

They don't need to be a capable starter next season. That is what you seem to not understand.

Another thing is that DeOssie is an extremely good special teamer and I think that he could have an instant impact. Bradley may not be able to step in on special teams, but I don't know if he has played there or not.

AZ, you want to draft a LB because there are some who have size, speed, and may be available when we pick? Maybe BB would like to also, but obviously he has other positions to address as well. And maybe the CB or Safety that's available to him at #24 or #28 is rated higher than that LB with the size/speed.

In addition, maybe BB feels an upgrade is needed at the Safety position because A) Harrison will hang em' up real soon B) Wilson's play of late is unacceptable

So maybe we take a chance on one of those SS prospects later on knowing that prospect will have time to develop under Rodney for this season, but perhaps the playmaking Nelson in round one is too good to pass on, even though there are other FS options later on.

Also, there's the Samuel situation to consider. Maybe a Revis slides to #24 because Hall and Houston go early. Does BB pass on someone who could potentially replace Samuel? Obviously, we could wait till later for a CB, but are the CB options few or plenty? Just because our top 3 roster CBs were 3rd, 4th, and undrafted, doesn't mean we won't draft a CB in round one -- providing he fits.

It makes a great deal of sense if we accept the fact that BB has the entire roster to consider. From player peformance evaluations and contract negotiations to potential retirements, a great deal of foresight is needed if he wants to maintain a championship calibre TEAM. There may appear to be a need at LB, but by the time '08 comes around, we'll wished we addressed SS, FS, and CB as well -- unless we do so now.
