With all the free agent related posts, this may have been mentioned before but....

There are two UFA's that I've always had my eye on.

One is Kawika Mitchell, of KC, formerly of South Florida. I always thought of him as the perfect MLB. Tough. Playmaker. Solid, with a nose for the ball. He's only 28, and has had over 100 tackles each of the last two seasons. I wouldn't think he'd cost an arm and a leg, but it could be that he's strickly a MLB, and doesn't provide the flexibility that BB likes.

The second one I have seen mentioned here. Kelley Washington, WR, of the Bengals. I have a couple of buddies from the Ohio area, who are big Bengals' fans, and they both think he's going to be a great player. He has the size and speed, and the injury factor kept his stats in check (not to mention that WR talent in front of him in Cinncy) such that he too should not cost an arm and a leg.

Anyway, just a couple of under the radar favorites of mine. What do you think, and do you have any other "under the radar" suggestions?

I liked Kelley Washington coming out of Tennesssee. He's definitely got the size advantage we haven't seen in NE for a long time.

I think if Stallworth falls through, and the moss rumors are just that rumors.. Then my next 2 WR choices are Kelly Washington and Eric Moulds... But lets hope Stallworth is signed by today...

i would agree. IF stallworth isnt signed, i would go with washington. he's a talented receiver who's only knock in my book, is that he has had health issues. id sign him to a 1 yr deal today. but im not b.b......ill let him decide:D

Thanks for the feedback. I get the funny feeling, that once the team is done with free agent signings, and then draft twice in Rd 1, once each in Rds 3 and 4, and twice in Rd 6, we'll be freaking pumped (Oh, and I didn't include the compensation pick/picks).

We're looking good, but I want it all to happen now. No patience.:)

Mitchell is a gritty ILB. He reminds me of Mike Maslowski, who he eventually replaced in their system. I'd like to see the kid in a Pats uni.

Kelley washington came down to miami for a visit last week. He has massive potential but he has never tapped it.

Drafted for baseball out of highschool he spent 4 years in the minor league till he realized his time was up so he went to Tennessee and had an alright career. He never lived up to his potential however and was drafted in the third round mainly on his phyisical talents. His first two years with the bengals went well until injuries and a logjam at the position doomed him to the bench. Because he spent time in baseball he is currently 28(soon to be 29) so this will most likely be his last shot to make an impact in the league...

Hey, radarman!
First class job. You've lit those two bogeys up on my screen now.

If you'd been on duty on the north shore of Oahu that Sunday morning ...
the sneak German attack on Pearl
might have had a different ending.

BILLY Mitchell and GEORGE Washington you say, eh?
Mitchell and Washington. Good finds. I'll mark 'em with a laser designator.

Are you signed up now as a Patriots Fan ?? ?? That would be fun. Stick with your guy !!

Mitchell is curious, if he can be signed cheap. The games I watched he was also a step or 2 behind but at least would stick his nose into the middle of a pile.

Washignton seems like potential, I would rather draft a WR than sign a veteran 5th WR.

I work in the Knoxville sports media. I can tell you that Kelley Washington, while a good talent, was viewed as an absolute cancer on the University of Tennessee team. In fact, upon his departure, the coaches even talked about creating a "team" again and getting rid of "I, Me, Mine" type of players.

You do the math.

It is not surprising to anyone in Knoxville that he has gone on to the NFL and not been able to crack the Bengals' top 3 rotation.

In addition, I previously posted that Donte Stallworth (a former teammate of Washington's at UT) was seen as a very athletic speedster whose hands were never quite as good as his feet. Plus he has had injury concerns in college and in the NFL.

If you're looking for a former Vol wideout, look to the draft and Robert Meacham.

The other two have serious question marks. There is a reason that the Saints and Eagles have been willing to let Stallworth leave. There is a reason that Washington couldn't crack Cincinnati's pass-happy line-up.

Did Washington have the neck problem....

Mitchell signed with the Giants, for $1M he could have been a solid spot starter and contigency plan.

Arthur Staple, of Newsday, reports the New York Giants have signed unrestricted free-agent LB Kawika Mitchell (Chiefs) to a one-year contract worth $1 million.

I, too, am skeptical about Stallworth and, especially, Washington; after 4 years, he looks like just another Donald Hayes and David Terrell.

** The FO of the NEP will also be looking at Meacham, it appears.

And another ILB candidate goes off the board.

I'm not a Mitchell fan, but aside from Adalius Thomas, this FO has not signed any other FA to help a defense that allowed 32 points in the last half of football it played.

Just about 1/2 the team had the flu and they had a number of key injuries. I don't think you can use the second 1/2 of the last game as an indication that the pats defense sucked last year, or that they need to completely revamp it. Remember, they were widely regarded as being one of the top 3 defenses in the league last year. And they got the best free agent defensive player on the market to help with one of their weaknesses.

I didn't think there were germans flying those planes off of Japanese aircraft carriers...
