i want moss but not for #24...
id take stallworth and our 1st over moss...

On another front, a source close to Bill Belichick reacted with skepticism Monday to reports that the New England coach is "enamored of" Randy Moss and might consider acquiring the Oakland Raiders wide receiver in a trade.

Said the source: "I'd be very cautious about how I treat second- or third-hand information about what's going on in the mind of Belichick when it comes to this stuff. Unless you're hearing it directly [from Belichick], you're taking a big leap. It happens every year with the Patriots, about free agency and draft plans, a lot of agendas and speculation that rarely end up happening."

obviously, the guys at ESPNews don't coordinate with Len Pasquerelli

I think it's bull. I don't see the team offering that much for Moss.

I don't see the team making ANY offer for Moss. Why the hell would a genius like BB want a cancer like him on the team? I really, REALLY hope that we do not sign him. I would much rather have Stallworth.

Why does everyone love Stallworth? They are reporting on ESPN.com that he is in the NFL substance abuse program, which doesn't even address his inability to stay on the field for a whole season. I don't think we get either Stallworth or Moss. Stallworth may just be a decoy, but Al Davis will want too much.

I take Stallworth over Moss . 3 yrs younger, much more potential, and much more upside... There is thought of Brady throwing up to Moss and having him make a play that is kind of salavating, but I still would take Stallworth.. Now if the unthinkable happens and Stallworth boards a plane for Tenn, then Moss becomes a bit more intriguing...
I really, really, REALLY don't get how Stallworth has (much) more potential and (much) more upside than Moss. Moss, at his best, is right there with the best players in the NFL. Stallworth has never put together so much as a 1000 yard season and even with a situation like he would find here, it's doubtful that he'll be much more than a below average #1 in his best case scenario.

Moss and a 4th rounder for Branch is a pretty good deal. I think the issue would contract terms.

So now there is a rumor Moss may go to the seahawks for Branch(sarcasim).

We would be giving up a one for moss not meion who blasted his way out.

While I would love to have randy, a one is just to high, especially with the success of BB and Pioli in the First. I would take every one of our first round picks for a five year deal over a 30 year old Moss. maybe with the exception of the TEs

What if Oakland gets our 1st and give us their 3rd?

In our system Stallworth would be a star...

I would trade a 1st rounder for Moss anyday, if we have Moss then we a 4th title next year. I wouldnt mind Stallworth either, but Moss is just plain sick. He can leap up and catch some over thrown Brady passes that he became famous for last year..

I don't want Moss and his lack of effort. He doesn't block. He doesn't go over the middle. He's a one trick pony. I don't want Stallworth either. He played well in his contract year, so what. Buyer beware! Plus, I think we're over paying for Welker. I think keeping Branch would have been the best option, considering we would have had his services last year too.

Moss is 30 years old and hasn't really done anything of note for the past couple of years besides tear a hole in his team. **** him. The only reason he wants to come here is to use us for a Super Bowl ring and then pull a T.O. in the offseason or retire. Stallworth may have a substance abuse problem, but at least he's never been labeled a cancer.

Come on! Anyone really believe that the Pats would trade a first rounder for Moss even if he was packaged with a fourth. Ok, say Moss' three years of down play was because of the teams he was one, how do we know for sure? There are absolutely no guarantee that Moss is remotely the same player he was prior to 2004.

When was the last time the Pats gambled a lot on a player to recapture his form of three seasons before they acquired them. Yeah, Belichick and Pioli will resurrect a Roman Phifer or Chad Scott off the scrap heap for next to nothing, but you never see them gambling first round picks.

The Pats do take risks, but they are very calculated risks. There is no real way of knowing if Moss is capable of being a 1,300 yard. It wasn't like Dillon who was one year removed from a Pro Bowl season and had been very durable throughout his career. Moss is three years removed and has had injuries that have hurt his play for the past three years.

Can anyone who would support this type of trade and think Moss is still an All Pro actually provide solid evidence that injuries haven't decimated his blazing speed and his down performances are because of his quarteback (although he had one QB throw for over 4,000 yards and another throw for over 3,700 yards during his slump) and his frustration with his situation. I can see some proof, but not enough to make me think he is capable of getting over 1,300 yards in a season no matter who is throwing to him.

Moss of four years ago is just plain sick. People seem to be in a time warp. The Randy Moss I have seen the past three years has been rather average with some flashes of his former self.

As for last year, Moss had 423 catches for 552 yards and 3 TDs. He was famous for underachieving last year and that is about it.

I'd take 423 catches any season. Not sure about the 1.1 YPC though :p

Oops! That is 42. Actually, if one receiver is catching 423 balls, Brady's arm is going to fall off. So I would take that many receptions even if it was for 20 yards a catch. Ok, I guess I would.

I think to fully understand Moss' stats last year we should look at the yardage gained by other receivers, etc. I know it may be an excuse, but I think the qb situation has something to do with his fall in production.

Would it be possible if the Pats would put Moss through a series of tests like the Combine or pro-day, plus actual practice with Brady and interview to see if he still has it. :D

Yeah ok, but the year before that Kerry Collins had 3,759 yards (Brady has only thrown for more yards in a season twice and one of those times was only five more yards) and Moss barely got over the 1,000 yard mark. The year before, Culpepper had 4,717 yards and Moss only had 767 of them. Culpepper would have won the MVP that year if Manning didn't break all of Marino's single season records.

People use the QB excuse for Moss. The only year it was a valid excuse was last year. The two previous years, he had an above average to outstanding QB throwing to him (at least in terms of yards).

True, but he was injured the year he got 767 yards
