take a look at what all the offensive lineman are getting
i mean hutchinson deserved big money last yr
but leonard davis?
eric steinbach??
DERRICK DOCKERY????

wow, those are some very decent but not great offensive lineman
and they all got pretty much the same deal hutch got with seven per at seven yrs!!!

so, you ask, what was the best signing?
locking up Dan Koppen in the middle of the season thats what

Koppen could have gotten a boat load of money on the open market.. That would have been a tough franchise call if we did not sign him or Samual going into free agency..

It's scary that Leonard Davis is considered by many a bust yet he still got one of the biggest deals in Cowboy's history.

I referred to the signing as a steal over the weekend after hearing what all the other lineman were bringing in on Friday.

But remember it takes two side to negotiate. I listened to Koppen the morning after he signed his contract on Sirius. He basically said he knows he could have gotten more money as a FA but he loved it in NE and couldn't see himself playing anywhere else. He also said something like "and how much money do you really need?".

So its obvious that Samuel wants to break the bank and Graham wants to be the go to guy (can't blame him).

More power to them.

And thanks for sticking around Dan.

Those signings actually blew me away. The league seemed to be doing so well at not giving out Redskins like contracts and all of sudden WOOF! Average lineman getting blockbuster deals. Unreal. Adalius Thomas seems like the steal of the century after viewing those deals.

Dan is one of my favorite Pats. I loved when he and Matt Light taped pictures from Tom Brady's GQ future to their backs during practice.

i wonder though if he knew at the time exactly how much everyone on the oline would be getting if he still woulda signed
he woulda at least asked for a lil more i believe
personally i think hes one of our most underrated players
very smart, which is obv so important at center
we havent talked about our oline for a while, and it always seems like ppl either hate it or love it
personally, i very much like the interior: koppen, mankins, neal
but im not really in love with the tackles: light had a pretty poor yr, although stepped it up in the playoffs, and we still kinda have that carousel goin on at the right side

I am not ready to jump off the Light bandwagon, yet. He was a liability in pass blocking last year, but him and Mankins were pretty impressive in the run category. I think we should give Matt a chance to go through an entire off season healthy and see how he performs this season. If he repeats his performance from 2006 then I say go after a new LT.

I think that O'Callaghan is going to take over and solidify that position. He was playing well before he got hurt. I'm not sure if Kaczur is going to be anything but a backup on our team.

But overall I am more than happy with our O-line.

steals of FA have been adalius and dielman, easily

I love Seymour's low-key quote, which amounts to a shrug "Yeah, those other guys got lucky in their timing."

Seymour played his hand aggressively, but it was a clean game. I have no problem with what he did to get a lot of money, and I don't expect him to have a problem with other guys getting more.

Koppen is probably the same way. He wishes things had been different, but is nonetheless thrilled with how they are. In particular, had Koppen been drafted higher, he might have wound up hitting the market later, and making signficantly more overall money. Oh well.

I was thinking about the O line today. I agree the Koppen extension was brilliant. I really hope the FO shows the same strategy with Warren and they get an extension worked out....sooner than later.

But back to the O line. I think there is an obvious strategy behind "grooming" young players on O line (and D line, if you will), as oppossed to skill positions where you can get away with bringing in FA's and incorporating them into the system. The difference is that the O line is a group who's strength stems from its ability to operate as a cohesive unit. Bring an expensive FA OL provides less of a return than if that money is spent on an "impact" player.

At any rate, it's a brilliant strategy just to have both sides of the line stacked with quality, young players. I wouldn't at all be surprised if we drafted OL the first day. I can't say I'd be jumping for joy, but I wouldn't be surprised at all.

Good call on Dan Koppen.

Adalius was really a steal too though. Hell, we are hardly paying him any more than a couple freaking SERVICEABLE offensive guards are getting! I'd say thats a steal.
