I can't understand why the Pats wouldn't pay Branch $40 mil. last year but will pay Welker $35 mil. this year Especially since we came 1 Caldwell drop/1 first down away from winning another Super Bowl. Either we should have paid Branch last year (for another ring it's worth anything we would have paid him) or We're overpaying Welker this year. I don't see how the Pats could be right about both moves.

Because we are paying Welker $18M not $35.

Welker's not getting $35 mill.

It was not about paying Branch, they wanted to pay him,but he would have had to play at his old deal... They were not going to set a precendent and rip up contracts... I miss Deion, but I doubt we would be doing what we are doing with him here..

Jeez, look around. Welkers new contract is right down a few threads...

jeez get with the friggin program. plus this year if Branch wanted a contract he would want more than he got last season because the cap increase in NFL.

so this year Welker gets 3.62 per year..last year probably would have gotten 2.5 per year probably

Branch last year wanted what 7-8 mill per year? This year would of been 8.5-9

Sorry guys my mistake on the numbers! Thanks for the correction but I still would rather have Branch and a possible Super Bowl ring at his number than Welker at his.

Can we raise the post count for starting a new topic to like 100 or 200? People like this are annoying.

I sure hope you're not a Surgeon or a Nuclear Power Plant Engineer.

People who start the 1000th stupid thread on the same topic and to top it off have the basic facts wrong. Losers.

People who start new threads when there are multiple threads already out there on the same or similar topic and posting their opinions using facts that are obviously wrong simply to increase visibility to stroke their own ego.

People like you and half the posters under 100 posts who start new threads.

Branch wasn't going to play without an obscene contract.

I'd rather have a SB ring than any player on the team.
That doesnt mean we would have had one with Deion Branch.
Given that BB has used the money he would have had to pay Branch to sign players like Thomas and Welker and get a #1 pick in the deal, there is no question we are more likely to win SBs in 2007 and on by not having Deion Branch here.
If you honestly think a team that gave up 32 points in the 2nd half of the AFCC game would have won the SB solely because of Deion Branch, then we lost one, but we have greatly increased our chances of winning more starting in 2007.

By the way, I still havent figured out how we would have won if we kept a guy who wasn't going to play.

If I were a surgeon or nuclear power plant engineer it would indicate I'm not stupid, which is what you're implying. It would work much better if you said I were a ditch digger, fast food worker or Patriot message board moderator. That would better indicate stupidity. You're attempt to be clever is entertaining, so please, try again!:)
p.s. Surgeon and nuclear power plant engineer don't get capitalized.

Actually, I post alot to other's threads too. I started this thread because I didn't see any comparing Welker vs. Branch. You're right though, it is a HUGE ego stroke to post my very own thread! However, I'm humbled by the dynamic czar of the Patriot messageboard, Wicked Pissah! I kneel at your messageboard altar *applause*

All sarcarm aside. Yes the D was softened up considerably by the Chargers the week prior and didn't have much in the second half but we still came basically 1 first down away from winning. Obviously, if we signed Branch to a new contract the season would have been different and the exact scenario probably wouldn't have been the same. Being so close though, I feel Branch would have helped enough throughout the course of the season to put us over the top. My whole point is still, I would rather the use of Branch last year including what it would have cost vs. Welker this year and what he will cost us. Yes, I feel safe in making the argument we were a player away from winning the Super Bowl last year and Branch could have been that player.

It should be...It would work much better if you said I WAS a ditch digger.

Heh, define irony.
