Thursday Night Football: Washington Redskins at Minnesota Vikings - preview and prediction
By: John Morgan

Both teams have struggled mightily on defense this year. The Vikings are allowing 31.5 points per game (30th) and 395 yards per game (29th), while Washington is giving up 31.6 points per game (31st) and 399 yards per game (30th). Part of that is due to th...

Do the schedule makers intentionally look for the most boring game of the week then, when they find it, put it on Thursday Night Football?

I was going to post something similar. The Monday night and Thursday night match-ups have been brutal this year.

Last Thursday wasn't all that bad because it was a good game in the end. But holy moley, it seems every week they put on at least one, if not two, extremely boring teams in a snooze-a-thon of a game. The Vikings are one of the most boring teams in the league. Like watching paint dry. The Redskins aren't much better. I still try to watch them every week and, in the end, I usually end up falling asleep on the couch.

Just a sign of your increasing age, Kontra. :)

I figure part of it is that the other networks (CBS, FOX, NBC) are paying such large fees to broadcast games that NFLN just gets stuck with at best average games.

One thing that I don't have a handle on is how the NFLN works in terms of the NFLPA and the CBA. Cap figures are based on television revenues, so how does the NFLN figure into that? It's not like they outbid some other network for the Thursday games. And since the NFLN doesn't pay anything for those games, it doesn't matter how bad they are; even with low ratings relative to games played on Sunday, whatever ad revenue is generated probably makes them just as profitable, if not more so.

I had not seen this before.

Sources: NFL Could Create Eight-Game Package Bringing In Up To $700M - SportsBusiness Daily

A couple of tidbits from the article:

- If the NFLN doesn't have Thursday night games, it risks cable providers either dropping them, or having to lower the $1.30 per subscriber per month fee they charge. It took years before the NFLN was available everywhere (specifically on Comcast, Time Warner and BrightHouse); I'm sure they don't want to go through that again.

- I am guessing that some of the new, secondary sports networks (NBC Sports Network, CBS Sports network, Fox Sports 1) would love to have a package of NFL games, to gain viewers and give themselves some credibility. Likewise the owners would love the additional revenue.

- ESPN is actually paying more for MNF rights than NBC is for SNF!!!!

Another factor is the broadcast production quality of games on ESPN and NFLN is subpar compared to that of the major networks. Sound, camera angles, commentary, auxiliary content, etc., all suffers by comparison.

Thursday Night Football is ****.

Re: Thursday Night Football: Washington Redskins at Minnesota Vikings - preview and p

Is NFL news so boring today that a dumb thread is posted 2 days in advance between 2 teams that will finish in the top 15 worst teams?

Gotta be something better than this ...even a story on how when in high school,Incognito made a substitute teacher cry ...would be more interesting to read on a Tuesday.

All I can say is thank the heavens there's MLS playoff games on during this. I'll be looking forward to both the LA Galaxy and Seattle Sounders getting eliminated for sure. More so Seattle due to all the butt kissing the league and media has given them this year. Still funny $9 million for Clint Dempsey and he scored ONE goal.

Also as a friendly reminder New England Revolution play the second game against Kansas City tomorrow night. You can catch it on Comcast Sports New England Plus, MLS Live, MLS Direct Kick, etc. GO REVS!

Okay back to the thread involving the Thursday night snooze fest NFL game.

Two great college games on Thursday Night. All four teams in The BCS Top 10 standings.
Oklahoma #10 at Baylor #6, and Stanford #5 at Oregon #3. Teams just aren't prepared to play on Thursday. The products sucks. I know the ratings are good for now. But, Goodell better watch it. People don't like crappy football.

I just got NFL Sunday ticket for a year and this will be my first game to watch?

Anyways, Redskins are only 2 games behind the Cowboys and Tony Romo has a tendency to choke so despite the Redskins being a bad team the Redskins still have a shot at taking this pathetic division. Gotta root for the Redskins to win. Anyway to make it harder for a Giants miracle comeback 2nd half of the season I am all for it.

I'm gonna try to give MLS a chance and watch the revs tomorrow if I don't watch the whole celtics game. I honestly wasn't aware there was much media attention to be given out to any mls team. Revs winning a title and raising a banner in Gillette would be great for them. Plus, it's been a while since the last parade(what 3 days or so?).

I'll have both of those games on Thursday night. I think Oregon is going to wipe the floor with Stanford, though.

The TNF theme song this year should be "Who Let the Dogs Out."

Re: Thursday Night Football: Washington Redskins at Minnesota Vikings - preview and p

This is going to be a rarity, where I watch a college game and just flip to the NFL game during commercials. Actually I may not even do that, with the two college games that are on tonight.

Re: Thursday Night Football: Washington Redskins at Minnesota Vikings - preview and p

Wish there could be a better game on tonight but it's football so I can't complain. It's better than no game at all.

GO REDSKINS!

Intercepted by brandon merriweather!

Re: Thursday Night Football: Washington Redskins at Minnesota Vikings - preview and p

Damn it, Patterson is playing well, I was hoping this primetime game would give me an opportunity to point out that the Vikings gave Pats Dobson plus 3 others for this dud

Also, these teams defenses suck almost as much as ours in 2011
