2014 draft priorities

As of now, I'd say in no order its DL, OL, TE, and QB....Mallett a FA after next year. Will this be the year we draft a QB rd 1?

I'm not gonna lie this is my favorite thread ever. The thought of a stud free agent or rookie TE to go with Gronk an emerging Dobson,a consistently(playing)Ridley a healthy Vereen ,Amendola. We would be putting up double nickels all the damn time son!

Graham over Talib any day of the week, and I'm not saying this due to injury concerns.

Graham is a 100% guaranteed investment. Talib isn't.

Yeah, he killed us in that game this year where Talib covered him.

Everyone keeps ignoring QB. Brady will be 37 next year. I repeat, Brady will be 37 next year. Mallett is gone after 2014 as well.

This QB class is talented and deep. We should draft one in rounds 2 or 3.

Ok, use one game to establish your criteria, I use full seasons.

Jimmy Garoppolo! Couple of years to develop behind Brady and he will be a stud for either the Patriots or whoever ends up with him if Brady carries on and is still being Brady.

Sign Alex Mack in FA which negates the need to draft a C
G x2, DT, TE are the needs then for me.

Depending on what guards are available I'd cut Mankins and save the money because he's not worth on his play this year his cap hit for 2014.

Mankins will make either $6 1/2 or $6 3/4 million next year in new money, depending on which version of Miguel's page one wants to believe.

(He has Mankins making $5.75 million salary this year on the main spreadsheet, but $6 million on the drilldown text detail; either way there's a $250K workout bonus, and it seems Mankins gets a $.5 million raise next season.)

interior linemen on both side of the ball

its really the only thing I can think of

1. Dwarf cb that doesn't look back for the ball.
2. Tall doofus wide out who can't learn the playbook.
Need to go back to the winning formula.

I'd rather have Talib. ;)

Graham + Talib.

Score 600 points.

Draft the rest!

Profit! ;)

It's not about Graham. Its about how the hell are you gonna cover Gronk + Graham + Dobson + Amendola?? Just a couple of years ago Gronknendez was terrorizing the NFL. GraGronk could be equally terrifying!

Would take Talib over Graham any day of the week. We already have the best TE in the NFL, don't really need another elite TE if it means losing a shutdown CB

OK seems like OL and DT are the most desperate positions we need to fill, but what about a TE with the first round?

Look at the way this offense is playing with Gronk on the field, he's a monster and this is where Brady plays his best. He had two of the top 5 TE's in the league recently but unfortunately they didn't play too much at the same time on the field. And I don't need to say what happened a few months ago.

Ok we have Gronk and he's a beast , what would this offense be like playing with 2 TE again with Gronk and a guy like Jason Witten or Heath Miller?

When I think on those possible combos I caught myself like this

Although I'm not against going with a TE on the first round it's very unlikely, DT is a huge need and we are not that OK with CB's too. Depending on what Talib deliver on the playoffs he's gonna ask for big money.

I like the TE idea, but maybe in the 2nd or 3rd rounds. Lots of good TE's are found there. I really think we are one stud pass rushing DE away from being dangerous. DT could be a priority depending on if we think Wilfork is history or not. Oh, and off topic, but I always get a chuckle at some of the GIFS you guys post.

1.) If Mankin's play does not improve, see if he is hurt. If not, try to negotiate his contract. If not, cut him.

2.) Extend Wilfork or renegotiate his remaining contract. If not, cut him.

3.) Use savings to lock up Talib.

4.) Bring in a tire kicker CB like Asomugha if available.

5.) Bring in value FA OL, particularly OG.

6.) Bring in value interior D-lineman.

7.) Look for value TEs.

8.) Look for value S.

9.) Now that the major holes are filled, sacrifice new born children in order to get Louis Nix. With the 32nd pick, this is likely impossible, so we'll have to settle for a standard 4-3 DT if one appears. Pick up stud G if available instead.

10.) Second round pick has to go to OL, probably G. If you picked G in the first, go for DT here. Might as well swing for the fences and look for a decent project.

11.) Third round you go for TE.

12.) Fourth through 7th is all Penn State.

I don't really consider Charlie Manson to have been a true TE.
He was not close to a good enough blocker to be a real TE, but was a better blocker than a WR. He did not have the speed/agility/quick cut ability of a WR, but compared to TEs was a exceptional.

IMO, what he brought to the team was a mismatch. You had to treat the offense like it was 2/2/1 personell even though the 2 TEs were as dangerous as most WRs in the NFL, and was just as much 3/1/1.

He may be pretty unique in that, so you evolve. Now we have a 6'3 210 lb WR who may be on his way to outproducing anything Manson ever did here as a rookie. Our offense has changed, we should add what pieces are available not try to go backward and find someone to be what a past player used to. That has always been BBs approach.

Definitely think they need a TE. Gronk is a one man show but a two TE offense gives flexibility plus gronk can't play every play. Not sure who is available FA wise.

Maybe yet another CB if Talib leaves. Like to see them draft someone like Kyle Fuller of VT.

Not sure the state of their OL as to who is a FA. If Vollmer and Connolly leave then obvioulsy a lineman who is ready to step in.

DL I don't know if they have that many holes, even if Wilfork doesn't come back.
I want to see AJ Francis get some looks.

Andy, I think you’re looking at it backwards.

If we could sign a player right now who had the same exact skill-set as Ahern I think that would be a good thing, assuming he’s not a serial killer of course. You take the offense in the direction of your player’s strengths, you wouldn’t disregard a good player unless those skills simply wouldn’t be of use. Having Dobson wouldn’t mean an Ahern-like player still wouldn’t be of benefit to have on the field.

As always it will depend upon how the draft plays out, but right now the first round looks like there will be a run on QB and OL, and that should benefit the Patriots. Interior DL is the priority imo as they need to get some young guys in and ready to replace the older guys in a couple of years. I don't think Wilfork is going to be done by 32 but i do see his role as more limited than he has been in recent years. He may have other ideas and as much as i hate the idea he may feel he's got more left than they want to pay him for and leave for more money. It would suck big time but they obviously need to be prepared for it.

DT/TE/OG/WR are the priorities and it will just depend upon who they really like and who is on the board when the 32nd pick rolls around. And although i want to see DT early if they can get a great OG/C/WR or TE then go fopr it, in the end all that matters is that the player turns into a core piece of their team going forward.

I don't see BB going for a WR before 5th round. I think they hit on Dobson and maybe he is the answer, let's see how boyce develops. I do think though there will be another offer to Sanders and I like the idea.

BB likes TEs and he hit a strike on Gronk and Hernandez, the problem is that Hernandez did some hits too lol. I just think BB will not give up easily on the two TE offense.
