Smerlas just (reluctantly) admitted what Borges did was wrong when pressed by Ordway.

I was surprised Bruce sort of brushed the story aside this morning. He said it's not right, but this sort of thing (copying others for the football notes column) happens all the time, so Borges will probably get away with it. I really had no idea it happened all the time...

The Globe is in a tough place now, with everyone picking up on it, even deadspin.

Ordway called the e-mail campaign BSMW and many members here did last year "wrong," but still believes Borges has an agenda against the Pats and Belichick.

Listening to WEEI now (the big show) and they are tearing bogus apart. They are basically saying that he is a good writer when he writes about anything but the pats...however when he writes about the pats his obvious agenda comes out. It wouldn't be as noticable if he did it once in a while, but it happens all the time.

Nothing unethical about having a contrarian opinion. Plagiarism, however, is a completely different ballgame.

If Mike Reiss plagiarized I'd be just as upset. (but not as gleeful).

Some folks are missing the depth of what plagiarism means.

Imagine you are Mike Sando of the Tacoma News Tribune. You worked hard on an article, researched it, did the footwork on it, etc.

One week later, Ron Borges steals this from you and earns his weekly paycheck by appropriating YOUR OWN work. Furthermore, other publications then pick up the story and CREDIT BORGES for it!!!!!

WWMSD? (What Would Mike Sando Do?) Or what would you do if you were Mike Sando?

Unfortunately the mental midgets on WEEI (Ordway's show, at least) are turning it into a referendum about Borges' agenda and opinion re: the Pats. Someone needs to tell these boobs that that isn't the point in this case.

It is a professional felony that is the case.
