It looks like Tom Jr. will be arriving in August sometime. I'm wondering if the kid isn't born by the time the team heads to China that Brady stays behind. Talk about distractions for our QB! China trip ... Gisele ... baby ... Bridget ... child support ... new receivers ... wow.

the only clear answer to your question is "who knows?" but, since the NFL has a lot invested in its china strategy and since TB is the "face" of the well-branded franchise that it has selected to play the first game there, we can bet that there will be a lot of pressure on him to make the trip.

Otherwise, TB has always approached his role like a professional and in a businesslike manner. so, how would a highly professional businessperson deal with the prospects of a trip to Asia, changes in his workplace and a possibly messy personal situation? well, the truth is that some deal with it well and some deal with it not so well, and it is hard to predict how any one individual will deal. from everything i've seen of brady, i'd bet he'll handle it well, but i've never stood over center, between the lines, in an NFL game.

Tom Brady Jr will be a Chinese citizen. Problem solved.

Next.

(And just in case.. I'm joking. Who knows? I mean it is an understandable absence. It is just a preseason game no matter how you slice it.. first baby? Come on!)

Umm, it's a preseason game, if I were Brady I'd definately tell them to move the hell on without me, I'ma be a daddy.

At a time like that you have to decide what is more important, family or your job. It is also put in perspective when you consider the fact that it is only the second preseason game (of five) and his playing time would be very limited if he were to even make the trip.

Now, if I were Belichick, I'd tell Brady to take the time to be there for the birth of his kid. It also provides a forum for him to display his young stud back-up QB.

What if Bridget does not want him there? Hopefully, he will not have to take this to court? Does a father, not married to the mother have a right to see his child born? Course if she does not tell him when she is going into labor he may not have a choice.

You guys are making a lot of assumptions. Tom and Bridget are no longer together. He was not her husband. He was her boyfriend. They broke up. None of us even know if they are on friendly terms with each other. Brady has already moved on with someone else.
How do any of you even know that she wants him to be there?

Bottom line, if they patch things up, he will be there. If they don't, he will be in China. Kinda the way it works in real life.

Does she have that choice if he is the Father and takes responsibility??

But that's what makes this situation so weird. Whatever the status of their "relationship," the baby belongs to both of them equally -- at least, until something legal about custody is decided. So I would somewhat assume that Tom would want to be around when the kid is born. For him to be on the other side of the world when his son is born under the notion that "we're no longer a couple" seems a bit too dismissive.

Maybe he should just send Gisele in to be Bridget's midwife and let them both handle it while he's away ... "You women deal with this, I need to play ball. Hand him over to me when he's old enough to throw a spiral and carry a hunting rifle." :D

Yes she does. There is no rule that says that Brady has to be there or that Bridget has to ALLOW him to be there.
It's up to them to decide that between each other.
By the way, Brady does not have to be there when the baby is born in order to take responsibility as a Father. My dad was not there when I was born, and I don't love him any less and he was there for me every day of my life. It's not what you do when the child is born, it's what you do as the child grows up. My dad was and is a great Father, and I don't think any less of him for not being there when I was born. He was always there when it counted the most.
I'm just going by personal experience. :)

If he wants to be there and she does not want him there he may have to take her to court. Hopefully, it does not go there. I am horrible because I want this to go smoothly not only for the baby but for the Patriots. The Pats are putting together a great team. Lets hope he is ready to go when the season starts. He always has been. Does this set him apart from his team mates? Will he talk to the media? I hope he addresses this and moves on.It all depends on how he handles it.

Who did your dad play quarterback for? ;)

A lot of this is conjecture, as we do not even know what state this baby will be born in and do not know the family laws in either state, Mass might be more familiar, have no idea about NY. I suspect that it would not be in anybody's interest to make a scene at the birth of this publicity. If it becomes a sideshow suspect #12 will back down, not Brady's style.

LOL! No one, but I get your point. I guess I'm just looking at this situation from a different perspective. They are about to become parents, and it's not up to us to decide what would be the best way for them handle their situation. They have to figure out what works for them.

I was just kidding, not really making any point. My whole interest in this issue is the potential conflict with Brady making the very high-profile trip to China. Of course it's not for us to decide, but it will be interesting to see how it plays out. What throws a lot of ambiguity into the mix is the fact he and Bridget aren't married and aren't even a couple any longer. So from that perspective, Brady would probably be more likely to make the trip and be away while the kid is born. On the other hand, it IS his kid too, so it would be understandable if he wanted to be around for the birth. Hard one to figure.

I know what you mean. But I guess you can't control what's in the heart.
Who knows. Maybe they will work things out and get back together in time.

Does this set him apart from his team mates?

Realistically, fathering illegitimate children is par for the course in most pro sports locker rooms. It's the paparazzi, supermodels and GQ covers that stand out.

This thread smacks a little of "OMG the freaking sky is falling" concern that pops up now and then whenever some little thing happens to the Patriots. Might be a natural Patriot Fan reaction to all the good from the weekend.

Let's see how this works out:

China Trip: how hard is this? Its not like he has to arrange anything. He sits his arse on a plane for the trip. Nothing here.

Gisele: This is a problem I would be happy to take off Tom's hands while he is in China. Please...we men should all have such a "distraction"

Baby: Seems like Bridget will be doing most of the work. I have no reason to believe their relationship is anything other than amicable. I think Tom will be excited over this and not worrying beyond normal "baby birth worries".

Child support: Give me a break please....Bridget is not living in a car somewhere, and Tom makes enough dough and is a good enough person from all I can see that there is not going to be a child support fight. Ain't going to happen.

New recievers: Huh....didn't this happen to a much larger extent last year?

Most players have personal issues we never even hear of and manage to deal with it. I don't think, given Tom's professionalism, that this will be any problem at all for the Patriots. He will be busy, but I think he will be fine.

In alot of interviews Bradys teammates talk about him being one of the guys. If he goes to China he will be a big deal there because Gisele is hudge there. I really do not care what happens in his personnal life as long as it does not effect the Pats.
I will not tell if I am male or female. I will say I love football and all sports and if you think personal issues do not cause problems on the field you are wrong. Look at the Branch situation. The first half of the season people were talking about Bradys body language.

I kind of tend to leave these brady-dad posts alone, but since this one asks a somewhat interesting legal question, I can't resist.

Everything differs state to state and judges are human with their own experiences and views, but by and large, women have a pretty close to absolute right not to have anyone they don't want in the delivery room. That even includes their own husbands. And most hospitals will enforce these rules, viewing their obligations always to be the patient.

In some contexts, some of our laws still reflect our Puritanical roots. The bottom line is that if you're going to be in a medical situation where your private parts are exposed, you have virtually complete say about who else can be in the room, and unless you get a judge to actually send marshalls or a sheriif to the delivery room to force a hospital to do differently, they will defer to the patient in virtually every circumstance. And even then, if the hospital views your presence as a risk to the health of its patient, it will usually risk contempt and simply boot you for trespass. The reality is that their damages for wrongfully booting someone are far less than the potential damages for contibuting to an OB problem.

The question is also largely moot. He could never get a court order because he could never establish paternity pre-birth. Since she's unmarried, there is no presumption of paternity. So far as the law is concerned, any male human able to reproduce three months ago could be the father. The only way he could ever establish paternity would be a blood test, which obviously no court is going to require in utero.

Not that I think these points have anything to do with this situation. I'm just kind of describing the legal situation in the abstract.
